So after reading the article, are you editorializing or did Wired change their title? No where does it mention the legality of selling the Sakura in North America. It only mentions that Nissan has not chosen to sell it outside of Japan.
Depends on what knowledge we are talking about. Personally, I'd be feeding it tons of manuals so that I could ask questions like "Which version of software x introduced feature y?" There's no extra context I need, I just need a version number to give to a customer. And in my industry, that type of info just doesn't show up on Google. So having an LLM that can answer the question in seconds saves me an hour of sifting through manuals.

I view space development as very, very, very nice to have, but not absolutely essential. I would prefer to tax the shit out of the wealthy to pay for essential things at home (such as health care), and let private equity fund the nice to haves like commercial space travel. The exception would be for science missions. I'd prefer for the government to continue funding pure research, so that knowledge doesn't get gated behind pay walls.
The whole NFT/crypto currency thing is so incredibly frustrating. Like, being able to verify that a given file is unique could be very useful. Instead, we simply used the technology for scamming people.

Building a proper space station as a jumping off point for further exploration of the solar system, asteroid mining, He3 mining on the moon. These are just the basic things that are envisioned/planned. All of which would require commercial space travel to be a thing. I'd much rather we extract that funding from taking a couple rich people for a joyride as opposed to getting governments to subsidize it.
This is why I'm generally not a fan of prequels. Everyone has inherent plot armor, since we know for a fact that they survive.

If wikipedia is to be believed, we might not be as far off as you'd think. One third of our pharmaceutical consumption is already domestically supplied, and the amount we export amounts to about 40% of our consumption. Put the two together, and suddenly there's 70% of our needs already met. Imports from non-us suppliers should be able to fill the gap while domestic production is ramped up.
Now obviously reality is going to be far more complex than this napkin math, but I'm just pointing out that our domestic production is not starting from zero, and is already at the scale where supplying our own relatively small market is not out of the question.
