  • We've got an automatic feeder too and mine does the same thing. About a half hour before it goes off he'll meow up a storm because he thinks I control it. We do get some cathartic payback though.

Our feeder has the ability to record an audio clip to play when it goes off and it has come with some entertaining Pavlovian side-effects. When the mic engages it makes a crackling sound that sounds kind of like a pig oinking. So now if I oink at my cat and call him a little piggy he expects food and sits next to the feeder waiting 😂

  • This is a scene from "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" where Bill Murray plays the titular character, Steve Zissou, not Ghostbusters. It's a Wes Anderson film so if you like his other works it's definitely worth a watch!

  • I live Mid-Atlantic and I've never actually seen a Tree Swallow near me. I really like their coloring! I get a lot of Barn Swallows though. They just showed again for the Summer last week for me and I always forget how much I enjoy hearing their inane babbling

  • I'm not sure why you're being downvoted because you're right. The department got renamed with the stupid acronym with the new administration and functions differently now, but it's existed for just about a decade prior to this happening.

  • I didn't want to elaborate originally because this is a meme community after all, but one of the biggest things I will say is that being gripped with alcoholism truly felt like living life as a stunted person in arrested development. Between the constant drunk/hangover cycle, the depression and anxiety, and just the general shame it felt impossible to maintain the consistency necessary to truly grow as a person.

I was very aware of how problematic my behavior was from the beginning, but that didn't make it any easier. My father died in a sudden accident a month or two after my 21st and alcohol was my coping mechanism. It sucks to feel like I now have to refigure out who I am in my 30's and reconcile with all the lost time, but today is always better than never.

Glad to hear you successfully made it to this point as well ☺️

  • If you don't already know, Dawnshard is an interlude novella that takes place between book 3 and 4 in the series. It expands on some world history that was only touched on and mostly adds a lot of context for things for the next books. My partner read the first interlude novella, Edgedancer, without reading any of the other books and didn't have any issues. If you've read the entirety of The Way of Kings you'll probably have enough environmental and worldbuilding context to kind of figure out what's going on at least.

  • Speaking from a US cultural standpoint, most people don't do this though. Because of this if someone asks "how are you doing?," there is a script that runs in my brain that just translates it to mean "Hello."

There's nothing more soul crushing than showing emotional vulnerability and then promptly being told you're a burden and have misinterpreted abstract social signals. Always better to just...not 🤷

  • The only reason the Fextralife wiki exists is because they use it to inflate their twitch channel viewercounts and channel metrics for sponsors with the embedded stream on every page(Unless twitch finally fixed this loophole). The entire business model of Fextralife is literally farming ad revenue so this doesn't surprise me in the least.

  • I didn't downvote you, but you kind of glossed over the unreasonably high price point for a middle of the road Thinkpad that looks like it's worth less than what Lenovo is currently reselling it for. You can literally build a high end gaming rig for less than what you paid for that so I feel like we're missing a lot of context here.

  • Ingrown hairs are usually caused by one of two things, either the hair follicle is infected because of bacteria that's introduced during or after shaving or the new hair is growing back under the skin rather than breaking out as it grows.

As others have said, if you're using a 5-blade replaceable razor head make sure you replace it monthly or more depending on how frequently you shave. A dull razor will remove and scrape more skin off of you in a jagged manner instead of just smoothly cutting the hair. Also don't press too hard against your skin as you're shaving, the razor should just glide on your skin with minimal pressure.

If you're like me and have curly hair that frequently tries to grow back downwards, make extra sure that you aren't shaving against the grain on your legs and butt. Pay close attention on your thighs and butt especially because the grain changes depending on whether you're working on your quadriceps, inner/outer thighs, and hamstrings. You won't get as close of a shave, but the hairs won't be shaved below skin level and it will help prevent it growing directly into skin. The exfoliation I mentioned in a previous comment and keeping your skin softer and moisturized daily will also make a big difference.

To expand on what others have said, make sure you're storing your razor in a clean area. Try not to keep it in the shower where it will be constantly getting wet and growing bacteria. You can try cleaning it with alcohol before using it if you need to. Also make sure that the body lotion you're using is non-comedogenic, which is a fancy medical word for the fact that it's designed to not get in your pores. If you choose to start epilating or waxing, over time your hairs will grow back a bit finer which will also help in the long run with irritation but you won't see results like this for a few months.
