  • There's this god forsaken fucking channel that keeps coming up on my YT music that is some AI generated slop parody songs of real songs, and they all have raunchy/18+ themes and names. I used to have a screenshot cause I thought I would post it but then I never did.

Anyway fuck them, and fuck YT Music for recommending me them.

  • Too young to actually exist (or gain consciousness ig) when Myspace was popular, but ain't Facebook just Myspace but "better"? So therefore Frendica is "Fediverse Better Myspace"?

  • Thanks, this article was great. I guess I'll finally check out XMPP, cause Matrix was... really mid when I tried it a few months ago and put me off. SimpleX was a mess too.

Side note, I get that the movim UI/Client is web only, but does that mean I can't access Conversations.im (I know the app/client itself is Android only) on movim? I feel a little ashamed that I can't understand this...

  • Uh yeah? I never said Pixels are Chinese. I use GOS on my Pixel 8a and I love it. I just don't like the fact that Google is our only option right know if you want a degoogled phone that also cares about security.

I think LineageOS is a fantastic project for giving old phones new life (I tested it on my old Moto G7 Play!) , but it still doesn't have all the lovely features GOS has.

And I also never said anything about app issues with Graphene? Most have worked flawlessly (I do have play services installed tbf), the only ones that didn't were Paypal and my debit card bank (credit one works though), and in Veronica's video I saw she had PayPal downloaded, so I guess they fixed it in the time that I tried to get it to work.

But I hope Linux phones become viable soon, as AOSP is a sinking ship as long as Google is the head of it.

    • Wait for real Linux phones to become viable and use that in a couple years

God, as a GOS user I want this so bad. I know I can buy used, but having that G on the back of my phone feels dirty. I refuse to go back to Apple, Samsung sucks ass, and I don't want Chinese phones, so I'm stuck here. But I want to be free.

  • I keep bitching about my Galaxy Tab A9+ and I will till the day I die. I fucking hate that thing for not having any Custom ROMs, and I despise the fact that it doesn't allow OEM unlocking (afaik). I mean, it was a gift, so I still appreciate it, but MAN will I never buy Samsung with my own money ever.

Anyway I wish people would stop crying for Samsung Graphene while knowing full well that Samsung is essentially the Apple of the Android world; Locked down to all hell.

It'd be nice to not have to buy Google anything, but I want security, to be able to use most of my apps, and I don't wanna buy a Chinese phone, so here we are.

  • That mentality is why teenage pregnancies happen. "Oh, just don't do it kids! Sex is bad! Sex is only for adults!"

Schools and parent HAVE to do a better job about teaching kids how to actually be safe on the internet and how to interact with content on the internet. Keeping children uneducated only makes uneducated adults.

Plus there are so many children who need the internet for both learning purposes, and safety purposes. And also how the fuck would 18-20 year olds be able to do daily life things like have a job, have a bank account, and access government services without the internet.

Keep people educated, stop hiding them from uncomfortable and "dangerous" topics. Silence and ignorance is what governments and companies want.

We have kids protesting ICE on Roblox. Gen Z rebeled in Nepal with social media. Young people deserve freedom too.

  • GDPR is nice and all, but people have been fighting chat control and all its hydra heads for years now, so no.

But I'm an American so what do I know?

  • Can feed a family yes, but isn't truly a meal on its own. Add some rice and beans, and now you've got a decent meal that has a tad more nutrition/balance than just straight up chicken.

  • I'll just be satisfied with knowing what this guy is about to do, but not actually seeing the footage myself.

Discord Is Lying To You. Here's Why

  • OHHH THAT'S why Voyager gives me an error.

Sigh, these are the things that might drive people away from Lemmy and Piefed. Lemmy devs are tankies, Piefed devs are weirdly puritanical, and instances won't tell you they don't allow downvotes.

  • As a cyber student, I have to literally stop myself from researching FOSS apps and homelab setups so I do my actual work that will get me the degree to pay for said projects and setups...

  • Well, I just reverted to an old version of Magic Earth so I could keep getting traffic info. That's literally the only tjing stopping me from other OSM apps like CoMaps. I wanna know if an accident happened or my usual route is blocked for some reason.

But yeah I hate their shitty subscription lol.

  • Hmm, that hasn't happened to me before, or if it did, it was a one time thing so I didn't remember it. I just did a screenshot and it took about 6 seconds to go away. I did another and made sure to interact with it, and it stayed up a littlw longer before also disappearing.

  • GOS didn't make me use my phone less, but deleting traditional social media certainly did. After I deleted most algorithm social media like Instagram and Reddit (YT amd Tumblr haunt me still) or turned off the history on YT (no history = no recommendations), I stopped using my phone as much. Lemmy and Tumblr do make me do that awful "pick phone up, look at app for 10 secs, put it down, then pick it up again 2 mins later" habit, but the fact that I can even notice that in myself is a win imo.

But when I check my usage/screen time, I tend to fluctuate. Voyager (Lemmy/Piefed) will get around an hour of doom scrolling (or tech scrolling) from me, while Tumblr gets about 45 - 60 mins out of me each day (fanart is a hell of a drug). So unfortunately 2 hours of social media from me seems to be my average. I could certainly go lower, and I want to, but I'm grateful that it's already limited to that. I hear about people scrolling social media for literally 8+ hours, so I'm certainly not the worst of the bunch.

But since GOS is very minimalized and has encouraged me to adopt as much FOSS as possible, that helps too.

  • Would've been a perfect video without the bashing on women for using the Tea app, and "shitty taste in men" in general, but okay. Just straight up ew; gonna ruin the rest of my night thinking about that.

(A little after 8:25 for anyone who's curious)

  • Honestly, play any old game that features a conflict (especially a political, economic, and/or social), and you'll say that every time.

I played Fire Emblem Path of Radiance & Radiant Dawn last summer and me and my mom just kept going, "Wow. This is a little too on the nose right now." Like there was literally a leopards ate my face type of scene where these formerly apathetic villagers tried to sell out the MC and rebel group, and still got punished by the invaders. They basically had a "But we worked with you!" moment. Fantasy racism and facism just pulls from real life facism and racism.

Edit: Meant to also say when people go "Games weren't political!1!1!" that it's fucking bullshit lol.

  • There's a lot of AAA that isn't slop. That sounds like coping.

Honestly this. I really need people to start defining what they think a AAA game is, because I feel like my definition is different. In my mind, a AAA game is any game made by a large well-known company that either has a series/brandname for itself (i.e. Mario, Resident Evil, CoD) or one that has poured a shit ton of money into it (usually due to employee count). Usually a mainline game, not side or spin-off.

And so going off of that, I truly struggle to think of a AAA game I have played in the last 3 years that could truly be called slop. The only game in that timeline that makes me go "eh", was FFXV, but I don't think the game is pure slop, it's just obviously incomplete without the DLC story. There are people still crying about this game and saying they miss the characters, and it's more than a decade old now, so I feel it's hard to call it slop.

Maybe it's because I mostly enjoy single player games over multi and I play more Japanese than western games, but I don't know why people buy the latest CoD or Madden and expect it to be significantly different from the last game. Like we know EA does microtransactions, stop buying their fucking games! Why do we expect 95% of SaaS games to be remotely good?

And not that I think indies suck, because I think they're great too! But people make it sound like every indie game is going to change your life, when there are thousands of indies out there that are just okay. Hell, some big name "indies" aren't even indies, they're AA games like CO:E33. And some indies have unfortunately felt lackluster for me, like Cassette Beasts.

  • Oh I definitely want to have a dedicated machine for the opnsense, I was planning that and a small switch as a gift to myself for my birthday. I just wanted to figure out if I could do something with this poor laptop lol.

I'll keep your NAS setup in mind.
