They can't just be rendering on top, the visuals would clash with collisions. Some of the assets we've seen in captures are different enough from their legacy counterparts that they would cause all sorts of issues while playing. Also, they wouldn't be able to increase the forest density, because trees have collisions. So it's at least a remaster within gamebryo (which seems most likely to me, because it's tailor-made for this kind of game) or a more profound remake within another engine (needless troubles, if you ask me, most unlikely).

How does the nvidia card fare on linux in general ? on a Wayland session ? I have a 4070Ti running Windows atm, I use Blender professionally and I know it runs the best on Linux because of compiler shenanigans I can't be arsed to understand, but this is one reason I'd like to switch to Linux (...again!). I'm interested to know if you run multiple color-managed monitors by any chance
yay I want to install Fedora Plasma when I get a new drive, see if I can gradually switch (for real this time)... Plasma has a new pen tablet utility for Wayland, and since I use my tablet exclusively... when my Windows 10 is EOL I will switch for sure. Good to know it runs well for you

I don't mind paying for software either. I own Affinity & Zbrush licenses. However I run the risk that in the future, these products may be sold to the highest bidder and development stalls (as it happened a couple years ago in the case of Zbrush) or interoperability suffers. When this happens, not only is your database of scenes and files obsolete, you also have to go through the process of learning a different program, and DCCs are... huge. Whole factories. It's very hard to reinvest the time necessary to learn them inside out and be proficient again. It is also impossible to contribute to a non-open codebase. Proprietary programs are ticking bombs.

I haven't even cooled down yet, literally just finished it... I don't think I've ever experienced a piece of art so carefully intentional, so cleverly crazy, or so painfully human. I've only done one playthrough, but I could guess the multitude of paths and forks, the complexity of it all, simply staggering.
My friend recommended it to me a couple weeks ago, and I went "yeah yeah, sure I'll play it". Oh, boy. I got hooked a few days ago and played through the entire last night -I think I didn't blink once during the last four or five hours. I was nearly brought to tears when I met the phasmid on the island. I was hoping so hard that holding onto that belief would pay off... and it did ! it appeared at the apex of the story, the moment of resolution, and suddenly... nothing else mattered.
So much conscientious artistry went into that world, it feels incredibly tangible. That writing was unbelievable. The art style is fantastic too of course. Perfectly wraps the whole package.

Hope it's alright that I'm linking to my Artstation gallery. This is a procedural mangrove tree I made with Blender geometry nodes. I've been working on it for a while, finally got it in a state where sets can be populated with it. The approach is pretty naive, there's no phototrophy or anything fancy (yet!), just branches planted on branches planted on branches... I did respect the golden angle though, and the leaves turn to face the sun to an extent. I'd like to try space colonization next, most likely that will have to be simulated from the seed onwards. But that should yield much more organic and realistic shapes.
