  • Elon musk also says it'll let you shit flowers and breathe hard vaccum. Melon husk just makes shit up whenever he feels like it. It's not going to stream music into your brain. They still can't even get it to stop killing the testing animals.

  • MN requires plates on both sides and when you renew your registration they give you tabs for both sides too. It doesn't make much sense to me to require plates on both sides if you are only going to put the tabs on one side.

  • but I don't think that's a good thing.

If we implemented reasonable a UBI then I could actually see eliminating minimum wage laws. There's not much reason to have a minimum wage if everyone is already guaranteed a minimum income.

  • Reminder

  • Checking your balls won't find prostate issues. It's for catching testicular cancer and you should have been regularly checking them since puberty. Just give em a quick feel about once a week in the shower.

As far as prostate exams, those used to start at 40 years old but they aren't really recommended anymore unless you have a family history of prostate cancer or other risk factors. It turns out they rarely caught anything anyways.

  • I don't seem to have any actually good pictures of them in my phone atm and they're in the middle of a shed right now. So the best I've got is a pic from the time they decided slither into my couch frame and made me partially dismantle my couch to get them out. They're lucky that they're cute.

  • You do realize that there's insulation in those walls right. That's the whole point of wood frame construction; you stuff the gaps between studs full of several inches of insulation. Besides, most of a homes heat loss isn't through the walls anyways. It's through any openings in those walls (windows, doors, etc) and through the roof.

  • 26?! Hell, I can't even sleep if it's above like 20C in my room. My bedroom right now is 10C (vents blocked to keep it extra cold) and that's about the perfect sleeping temp. I'd go that cold in the rest of the house too but my pet snake probably wouldn't appreciate it.

  • A friend of mine has the same issue and they just got put on a beta blocker along side the stimulant. According to my psychiatrist, that is fairly common.

But also yeah, controlling my adhd almost completely removed my depression and anxiety symptoms. Doctors tried to treat just my depression/anxiety for over a decade with only marginal results. I had the same experience with the bupropion, it helped with the depression but it didn't do much for the actual executive function.

  • I was put on bupropion for depression and, while it didn't work perfectly, it worked far better than the other antidepressants I had been on. Then I found out that it's frequently used off label to treat ADHD and I started to have some suspicions. Long story short, now I'm diagnosed and on a stimulant and it's amazing.

Did Adderall give anyone else a headache?

So I finally got diagnosed with ADHD (apparently I actually bombed the MOXO if you saw my previous post). I started 10mg IR adderall on Tuesday. Firstly it has been life changing so far but if I start writing about that this will become a novel.

The main thing I'm wondering about is that I have also noticed that about 1 hour after I take a pill I get a bit of a headache and my upper back and shoulders ache. It isn't bad, it's just enough to be annoying. I've been paying special attention to make sure I'm still eating, sleeping, and drinking enough so I know the achiness isn't linked to any of that. Did anyone else get this sideeffect, does it eventually go away, and if so how long did it take for you?

The most adorable compressor I've ever worked with

    Another old work pic.

This is a variable speed DC compressor I got to work with a while back. The machine this goes in is a 1 cubic foot environmental chamber that is accurate to 0.01C. It was a nice change compared to the big scrolls I normally worked with.

    Career change advice.

TLDR - All my refrigeration experience is with high end environmental chambers and I want to become a commercial HVAC-R service tech. Do I have any chance at getting hired?

So right now I have a few years of experience working as an environmental chamber tech. Basically, I'm the in house guy wo sets up, tunes, and troubleshoots new and returned environmental chambers. These are some pretty complex and varied machines refrigeration wise. Some are single phase, some are 3 phase, some use single stage refrigeration, some use cascade refrigeration, some use water cooled condensers, some utilize liquid nitrogen, some are designed to have ultra high ramp rates, some are designed to be ultra precise, some use 5.5hp compressors, some use a tiny dc compressor the size of my fist. So I think I know my way around the refrigeration side of things fairly well.

The thing is this is this is all I have done professionally in regards to refrigeration. I have never professionally worked on any heatin

Another old work pic to liven up the place.

One of our production guys put this service valve on and thought it was fine. Getting the damn thing back off required a pipe wrench.

    Found the leak boss.

Just posting old work pics to try and get some life here.

This was on a piece of equipment that came back in for RMA because it leaked refrigerant. The field techs couldn't find the leak. Best guess is there was a bit of moisture in the threads and over time it froze and thawed enough to crack the cap.

    MOXO Test

So I've suspected I have ADHD for a while now. The symptoms just fit plus both my mom and brother have it so I've got a pretty strong family history.

I finally got in to see a psychiatrist and they agree that I likely have ADHD. They had me take an online test called MOXO. I won't be seeing my psych for about another week and a half and I'm assuming that's when I get my actual results. But it feels like I did way too well on it.

Has anyone here taken that test and how did you feel you did on it when you took it?

Edit Update: Just in case anyone sees this in the future. I did not in fact do well on the MOXO. Aparently I did awfully. I am now diagnosed and on a stimulant.

What is this plant that smells like onions? (Solved)

    Edit: Answer - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allium_tuberosum

I've been letting this grassy plant slowly take over my yard and I haven't been able to actually identify it. It has white flowers in late summer that bumble bees absolutely love. It smells like onions when you cut it and it tastes like onion as well except maybe slightly more mild.

How do I know if a medical issue should be addressed by a Clinic Visit, Urgent Care, or the Emergency Room?

How are you supposed to decide where to get care for emergent conditions? Where is the dividing line between "just book a clinic visit", "head into urgent care when you get a chance", and "go inmediately to the ER"?

So this is a question I've always struggled with and it makes me feel very dumb especially because I literally am a EMR. This feels like something I should know. But at the same time I have also called to book a clinic visit before and had the scheduler tell me to go to the ER immediately only for it to wind up being nothing.

Certain things are obvious of course. Like if I need stitches or there is other major trauma then I know to go to the ER. If it is something like a concerning infection then I know urgent care can sort me out. For a skin rash that's probably a clinic visit. If urgent care is closed and it can't wait then default to the ER. But there are also the issues where I genuinely don't know on what side of the line they should fall. This is especially an issue

(Solved) What is this definitely not capybara?

A friend of mine just sent me this picture and said someone they knew just got a capybara. I informed them that that definitely isn't a capybara. Now neither of us know what it is. It kinda looks like it's in the uncanny valley of the rabbit species. Is it just a fucked up looking rabbit?

Who created MELFs and who hurt them?

Seriously, what sadist saw a flat PCB surface, flat pick and place machine heads, and said "lets create a round component"?

Joking aside I am genuinely curious what advantage the MELF design actually offers. I know they're a pain to get a machine to place properly, they have more solder flow issues than components with flat leads, and they seem like they would be harder to manufacture too. So why a round component? Anyone here have any insight on why they even exist?

How does employing a rapist not constitute an unsafe work environment for female employees?

So I just discovered that I have been working next to the waste of oxygen that raped my best friend several years ago. I work in a manufacturing environment and I know that you can't fire someone just for being a sex offender unless it directly interferes with work duties (in the US). But despite it being a primarily male workforce he does work with several women who have no idea what he is. He literally followed a woman home, broke into her house, and raped her. Him working here puts every female employee at risk. How is that not an unsafe working environment? How is it at even legal to employ him anywhere where he will have contact with women?

Bathroom vent out the side of the house?

So I'm planning out a bathroom remodel and part of that is replacing the vent fan because currently mine is just venting into my attic (no bueno). I know normally bathrooms are vented out through the roof but my bathroom is on an exterior wall so I was wondering if I could just vent it out the side of the house. I'm going to be ripping open that wall anyways and I would much rather cut a hole in the side of the house than run a vent pipe up through the roof.

Also I'm in Minnesota if climate is a concern.

Do both sides of a transformer need to be fused?

I work on equipment that runs off 3 phase 208V but it uses uses a transformer to drop it down to 120V for most of the controls. On this equipment I noticed that there are two fuses on the lines exclusively feeding the 208V side of the transformer and a fuse directly off of the hot side on the 120V side of the transformer.

Isn't the fuse on the 120V side of the transformer redundant? From my understanding, if there is a current spike on the 120V side of the transformer then that will cause a current spike on the 208V side of the transformer and immediately blow those fuses anyways. Is this just a certification thing where that redundancy is required? I'm in the US but this equipment does also get shipped to various overseas locations. Also, while it isn't standard, this equipment is capable of passing a TUV inspection if a customer requests it so I'm not sure if the potentially redundant fuse is just a TUV requirement.

What is alien.top and why do all the users from there show up as bots and have no history?

I've been seeing a lot of users from alien.top commenting in various threads (mainly sports) lately. They only caught my attention because they are all flagged as bots and I typically manually block most bots (not all because there are some I like). For every one of them their entire post history consists of 1-2 comments or posts. When I took a look at that instance there is nothing there at all and it also shows no users. The comments look human enough but I guess I wouldn't be surprised to learn that all the comments are LLM generated. Is alien.top just someones LLM experiment or is something else going on here?

    Electrolytic Caps and Vacuum/Pressure

So I'm a refrigeration tech with some electronics manufacturing experience. But I've never combined the 2 skillsets so I've been toying with the idea of building a large vapor chamber to cool a computer via direct immersion in a refrigerant. I know its about as far from practical as you can get but it sounds like fun.

Ignoring all of the many many other problems with doing this for now the one thing I'm not sure about is how well the electrolytic caps on the various components would survive. I would need to pull a fairly hard (500 micron) vacuum on everything before I charge it with refrigerant. I know most electolytic caps aren't vacuum rated but I'm not sure if that just means you can't have them operating in a vacuum or if they will immediately pop if you just subject them to hard vaccum period. Additionally while I am planning on using a low pressure refrigerant (probably some R-123 substitute but I'm definitely still working on that part) the components would all still be subject

How many calories does a standard whole blood donation burn?

So I just went and donated blood again and durring the recovery period it occured to me that it takes quite a bit of work for your body to regenerate that lost blood volume and the actual blood cells. Regrowing that many cells seems like it would be fairly energetically intensive. So how many calories does producing all those new blood cells actually consume? Is there even a way to know that?
