  • Haha I know, it's anathema to admit that there is any benefit to existing inside the walled gardens, but acknowledging shortcomings is the first step towards improvement.

These are also edge cases to me, and overall I'm super pleased with Graphene OS. I don't own a car so Android auto is only missed when renting a car on vacation, and I can bring an old backup phone for that, and I just remember to bring my wallet and credit cards with me now that I can't tap to pay.

But I know there are people these would be a deal breaker for, so wanted to call them out. It is remarkable how well it all works though!

  • After finishing up calculus and differential equations taking real analysis was a trip! Basically opening up the box that is calculus and seeing why taking the derivative of a function means dropping the exponent and so much more. It frequently dealt with infinity and we went from writing long equations to solving word problems involving infinite doors. It was great

  • I think it is more than that, the shower is a proper refuge where external stimuli is severely limited. Sounds are limited by the running water, temperature is controlled by the water, visuals are limited, and no one is generally barging in.

When I was studying math at University I had a remarkable number of eureka moments in the shower where suddenly infinity made sense. Smart phones didn't really exist then but showers still held power as a great place to think

I've been using Graphene OS for a while now and it feels like a miracle to have access to the play store yet not be so locked in with Google. Changes like the ones in the video make me worry that this is a flash in the pan and that Google will lock the play store into their Android for that sweet tracking data
