see c/UGEM for UnderGroundElectronicMusic. :) (I was going to set up something like that when saw someone else had already requested to make it. Good stuff. Populate it.)

  • FYI, Sheldon's name's spelled with a d, not a t.

I think one main reason we've not seen such a series, is because of the negative backlash boy wonder Wesley Crusher got.

If done well, I'd love to see a flawed-genius trek.

[PS, Sheldon's my fave TBBT (&YS) character, and the DS9 episodes with those genetically engineered characters are my fave, and they're my fave side characters of all star trek (up there with the traveller, tuvix, & kai opaca). IMO exceptional brilliance aught not be shied away from.]

  • Their biggest challenge, their biggest hurdle, their biggest impediment to being free to contributing to society, is not in them, but in the rules on them, based on the well founded fears of creating a race to the bottom with a million Khans seeking to take over and rule over everybody else (like happened before), if genetic engineering were considered acceptable. This is covered in the side conversations had in the episodes featuring them.

Not completely distinct from neurodiversity challenges. The biggest hurdle being from society not built to accommodate us.

  • Sweet burn! :D

    Janeway, we got you pegged.

The murder of Tuvix pained me more than anything else done in Voyager.

  • I'd rather offer refutations and sound cogent counter-arguments, than leave them to run off unchallenged, doubling down with a sense of being right and up against the evil censors, conspiring in whatever echo chamber of bigotry they then find themselves welcomed to.

  • ... And I doubt all the death figures going around... I suspect it hit a megadeath in the first months after the triggering false flag attack they used to excuse this hot genocide.

But the media all so bought up, managed opposition and all, we don't tend to hear much about that.

To echo a sentiment I've heard Max Igan say many times... If we don't remedy this situation, the way of Palestine will be the way of the world. Like we're not really confronting the horror of the situation... of how far we are into "First they came for the...".

... And then the deeper con, some want us to conflate and hate, like this is all a big problem-reaction-solution ploy to get us okay with the "Christian Nationalists" and other "Fundamentalist" (~ Nothing Christian, Nationalist, nor fundamental to christianity, about what they do), wanting to drop the big one on them, once they're all consolidated, and offered "Jesus or die". ... Because, y'know, that's what Jesus would do. ... Too much crazy going around.

Oh to heal the minds... ... ... maybe if we restore cannabis... (aka Kaneh Bosm, the main ingredient in the holy anointing oil that makes one be as christ). For the healing of the nations. Food, Fuel, Fiber, Medicine. Best idea I've seen. But then how to get that past the crooks who've hijacked control and are actively enshitifying.... Ample room for more good ideas yet.

  • Thanks. Handy to know.

I'm still on my first pair of noise cancelling headphones. The "cheap"[est] Bose ones (^around that same price). They do a fair job of noise cancelling [~ though not great enough to immunise me from SensoryProcessingDisorder triggers]. But I have nothing else to compare to. Have been considering making a big investment for their more expensive ones that I've seen get great reviews.

  • I was told recently that there's no such thing as racism against white people, and that, contrary to the definition of the word, racism really means something that involves an imbalance of power, and it's not racism if using the broadest brush to blame anyone of similar skin colour as the oppressor's skin colour, and that this skin colour is only white. :3

So by this newspeak, so long as those English accents are uttered from people with light skin tones, it can't be racist. So, shout and jeer your crude cliche impressions against the item of the hour of hate all you want. It's doubleplus. ;D

    Mad world.

"Was there hate in your heart?" -- Reginald Darnell Hunter

    phobic

    Was there fear?

  • As was introduced to me, breaches of Duty of Care Law fall under 3 categories.

    • Incompetence (not criminal).
    • Negligence (can be criminal).
    • Intent (always criminal).

So you can see why they try so hard to appear incompetent.

Lets them get away with murder.

  • All of them?

Pretty sure 99% of those I've heard say "Death to Israel", mean the end of the political entity, not the people.

  • Edit 1: I am NOT defending conservative views, I think that they should not be given a platform in the fediverse.

So you'd rather eliminate their voice to conserve the status quo here?

Are you sure you're NOT doing that?

  • I've read this reply many times now, and it's not getting any clearer to me as to what it's intended to mean.

  • I can't speak from a Marxist perspective (having a considerably more anarcho-socialist perspective), but, for a little relevant anecdote...

I used to work in advertising. When I was animating my first TV advert, for the whole 3 months it took, each day I would play a Bill Hicks VHS in the background, over and over, wearing it out to fuzzy snow. Meaning about 12 times a day, I would get a dose of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHEOGrkhDp0 ... And so Bill Hicks saved me by telling me to kill myself. Never done advertising since.

  • how good we once had it

    Relatively.

It was still considered the worst at the time.

How much worse it has become...

  • No it freaking isn’t!

I was ready to hear this out...

    but then you said...

It’s about as far removed from cola as Proxima Centauri is to being a cup of tea!

Which is too strong a try-hard hyperbole to entertain.
