Conflict between two Loops developers turns into fedi drama

    Synopsis

    (trying to be neutral here)

Hazycora[1] was informally hired to work on Loops web UI. Then Daniel[2] posted about his idea to launch a video ads network for Loops (which he latter admitted was a joke), and Hazycora commented that such posts hurt people's trust in him.

This was followed by an avalanche of mutual accusations, which I shall not dwell, as a result Hazycora no longer works for Loops.

    Consequences

    • Accounts using "hazy.gay" email domain were banned on loops.video with a fake dubstep-posting Kamala Harris account as an excuse. This also breaks guest browsing on loops.gay.
    • Hazycora's username on loops.video was forcibly changed from single-letter "h" to "hazellll".
    • Disassemblies of the Loops client were published on GitHub.
    • Hazycora says she has got more than $500 in donations in the past two days; Daniel says his following count is growing, and hers are going down; both claims need verification.

Why I'm voting against "Proposed Rebalancing Of The Reward And Vote Weight Calculations"

Two polls considering Gridcoin development were recently published by grctest, you can find their proposal here: https://github.com/gridcoin-community/Gridcoin-Tasks/issues/268

Putting aside concerns about active use of LLMs in creating this proposal (I think Gentoo was right when they banned all contributions created with the assistance of generative AI), let's focus on economy.

First important thing thing to emphasize: cryptocurrency is not money or currency, it is a non-financial asset, like gold. This is consensus among mainstream and post-Keynesian economists, as far as I know.

Suppose there is a gridgold mine (the only in the world) that produces 37,600 units of gridgold daily. There is another unused mine nearby, where mining is less difficult, and because of that it can yield 5 times more gridgold than the current mine with same amount of work.

So what happens after the switch to the latter mine?

    Economic actors (mo

  • I assume if threads users follow fediverse users the content makes its way to their feed as normal.

    No. https://woof.group/@aphyr/113596102626961803

  • You can now follow fediverse accounts on Threads, but the accounts aren't searchable and their posts won't show in feeds

    what's the point then

  • They can be URNs (like magnet:), as shown above.

  • Or a bank. Or a billionaire. Or a hedge fund. Or a stock market maximizing algorithm.

Only government has full control over its national currency via central bank and taxes. It's not decentralized, as every commercial bank needs to get a loan from the central bank, and people have to pay taxes in national currency.

  • and the size of some of the largest hoards have no significant relation to the availability of physical currency

Also true. Only MB money aggregate is in active circulation.

  • Taxes don't fund government expenses

  • "Printing money" is a metaphor, of course most money now is just virtual numbers.

Which makes it even easier for a government to create and spend it :)

  • Money is free and infinite according to MMT

Elia Ayoub's profile (on spore.social) was hidden by mastodon.social moderators just the day his post about the ICC arrest warrants on Netanyahu got into "Explore" page.

To check yourself, visit https://mastodon.social/ and type @[email protected] into search.

UPD (2024-11-26): mastodon.social has stopped hiding this profile.

Russia's first politically motivated block of a Fediverse server

    cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/14155096

Admin team of LGBTQIA.Social Mastodon instance received abuse email from Russian censorship agency, where they demanded to remove an account. The account in question represented a small group that ran a collaborative blog for LGBTQIA youth and adults in Russia.

Shortly after refusal to comply with agency's demands, the instance was blocked and is now unreachable from Russia.

All previous blocks of Fediverse instaces in Russia were related to hosting CSAM.
