But why is it not a dire wolf predominantly when most or the most potent genes are dire wolf? I'm not talking about a pure dire wolf just something like a hybrid that's closer to a dire than a gray
If I understand that article right than it sounds like they're saying they are the same animal (both are dire wolves) from a morphological/physical standpoint which is basically what I was referring to. I was mainly also wondering to what extend that is though and why
But what's the deeper scientific explanation for that? At which genetic state would they be considered dire wolves then?
So you mean they are more similar to gray wolves than dire wolves? What is the scientific explanation behind this?
Unfortunately I need a subscription to read that article.
Hiding apparently also only works for posts but like I said even with them they still show up for me
I just added to my comment when I do that it only seems to hide it for others but it's still showing up for me.

Are the newly created dire wolves more similar to actual dire wolves from the past or to gray wolves?
Hi there, I'm not familiar in this space at all which is why I'm asking in this community to understand it better from a science perspective.
So the way I understand it they haven't created a 100% exact genetical copy of a dire wolf since they don't have a complete DNA sequence that's fully preserved and intact.
Apparently they made 20 edits to the Gray Wolf genes which I assume aren't all the edits needed for a fully genetically identical dire wolf.
So my question is if that means that the wolves they created are overall still more similar to a gray wolf when you could go back in time and compared them to actual dire wolves. Or did they actually make the core changes that are so significant that the wolves overall actually are more similar to actual dire wolves and therefore naturally fit into that ecosystem niche that gray wolves don't?
And even if they're more similar to actual dire wolves than gray wolves and naturally fit into that ecosystem niche I wonder if they would still
Is there a way to hide your own Lemmy content from yourself?
Hi there, I know that you're not able to fully delete a post/comment on Lemmy because of the way the system works since deleting something only seems to hide the content from most instances but it will still show up for yourself and give you the option to "undelete" it.
But it's pretty annoying to me to have all posts and comments I deleted still showing up for me in my profile section. Even though I know you can't fully delete it I was wondering if there's at least a way to also hide the content from myself and not just for others.
The way the TV is doing it has too much latency. There are graphics cards from for example Nvidia that have something called DLSS and it has very low latency. But GTA 6 will not come out for PC in the beginning and consoles don't have such a feature right now.
Why should I lie about this? It's not that big of a deal that I would lie to strangers. Unfortunately I haven't received any information about the ban. I always posted friendly and respectful. I tried to contact Reddit but they didn't reach back..

Why don't we have motion smoothing on current consoles?
Probably a dumb question but:
With the upcoming GTA 6 where people speculate it might only run at 30FPS, I was wondering why there isn't some setting on current gen consoles to turn on motion smoothing.
For example my 10 year old TV has a setting for motion smoothing that works perfectly fine even though it probably has less performance than someone's toaster.
It seems like this is being integrated in some instances for NVIDIA and AMD cards such as DLSS and Fluid Motion Frames which is compatible with some limited games.
But I wonder why can't this be a thing that is globally integrated in modern tech so that we don't have to play something under 60FPS anymore in 2025? I honestly couldn't play something in 30FPS since it's so straining and hard to see things properly.
Yes I already have the Qobuz digital file but I only have it stored digitally on my Google Drive. I would want a physical version of that Qubuz type quality like a CD/SACD but my problem with those is it's too outdated/not supported enough (especially for SACD I don't even have a player) and it's also not durable enough which is why I want to have a copy on Blu-ray that I can play with full 24 bit on my entertainment system.
Also do you know if Dangerous has ever been released in surround sound or Atmos?

Is there any Blu-ray audio (HFPA) release of Michael Jackson's music?
I love Michael Jackson and his music and was wondering if there has ever been a release of his music on audio-only Blu-ray so that I can truly own the music in its ultimate highest quality on Blu-ray physical media with the advantages over CD such as higher res 24 bit audio, surround sound support and better durability/longevity.
I know you can burn Blu-rays yourself but I don’t have much experience with that and don’t really want to buy a burner, the disks etc. and put in all the effort, I preferably just wanna buy a single finished product.
Is there maybe a site that lists all the Audio Blu-rays ever released since this seems to be a very small niche that's hard to find in general? Cause so far I couldn’t find any Michael Jackson music release on Blu-ray.
I’m preferably looking for the album Dangerous. I know that the albums have 24 bit and Atmos releases, so the content is definitely there. Only question is if it exists on Blu-ray physical media. And if there is no official relea

The reason for the bad results of the 3D theater movie quality from the latest LTT video. Hope this helps someone.

I wanted to give some clarification for the latest LTT video about the 3D theater setup regarding the bad image quality they experienced. I hope I can clarify this for people and maybe someone from LTT will even get this info that they can fix their experience.
The reason for the bad result is they made a mistake by re-encoding the 3D Bluray rip using BD3D2MK3D which greatly compresses the quality.
They didn't have to prematurely split the images and re-encode it with BD3D2MK3D in a lossy way and only half the resolution of the already bad quality of 3D Bluray. They didn't have to re-encode at all.
Instead they only needed to use MakeMKV which is lossless and then use Stereoscopic Player (which does support the MVC file) to separate the images. In this way they wouldn't have lost any quality from the 3D Bluray and it would be a bummer after they put in all this effort for this to degrade the quality because of this.
Despite this (starting a general topic) it's sad that 3D Blur

What's the best way to learn the Spanish spoken in the USA?
Hey there, I was wondering what good ways are to learn the Spanish dialect that is most commonly spoken in the USA since America has a lot of Spanish speakers and it's the second most prevalent language after English (like English, America obviously has a different version of the language compared to for example UK or India).
I had Spanish in school but only know a few basic things. I wonder if there is some way to really get immersed in the language (other than oc moving there and speaking with native speaker in person) to naturally learn it to be able to have conversations with Spanish speakers in America that sound as local/authentic as possible (so I don't wanna focus on artificial learning that focuses too much on grammar and uncommon words that aren't that important for everyday conversations).

I agree it's very frustrating, YT strongly degraded in the last years. They haven't really modernized or fixed their UX at all and they didn't improve or implement any features. They only made it worse, especially the social elements are awful. It's probably cause they're a clear monopoly and don't really need to improve the platform since everybody is already on there anyways (same with Google search and many other Google products)
Can posts and comments on Lemmy be fully deleted since they still appear with the option to "undelete" after doing so?
I noticed when you delete a post or comment on Lemmy it still shows up on my account with the option to "undelete" it which fully restores it and makes it public again.
Does this mean you can't fully delete them and basically only "hide" them from the community but they will still stay on the server forever? Or is there any option to fully delete them or will that happen after some time?

How can you see an overview of all the replies you got on comments posted on YouTube videos?
This is quite the technical question and I doubt I’ll get an answer on this small community but I’ll try it anyways.
So I’m a very heavy YouTube user and comment multiple times pretty much every day for years. Over years I wondered why I haven’t received notifications when someone replied to my comments and only got notified when someone directly referred to my handle or sometimes when someone liked or a creator hearted my comment (which made my experience on YouTube very lonely since I never got anything back).
Now I figured out I disabled the specific notification setting responsible for comment activity called “Notify me about activity on my comments and posts on other channels” (I must’ve turned this off in the past prolly cause I got too many notifications) and after turning it on I randomly got notified about past comments from me that literally have thousands of likes and hundreds of valuable replies and interactions that I missed out on.
Now I’m wondering if there is any way
