  • Crypto enthusiasts don't really care or understand decentralization. If you talk to crypto bros you will realize pretty quickly that a lot of them are very very low IQ morons.

I was at an event and met a crypto bro. He tried to explain to a group of us that btc is like moss and the world is the forest. A couple people legitimately "got it" and began to get excited about crypto.

  • For better or worse it is unrealistic to expect business to just eat rising costs just because they got into business before the costs were so high. That would be nice but it's just not how the world works. If that were true then entire economies would collapse every time there was an economic shock.

  • Get out of here with your reasoning. It's more fun to feign outrage because it gives me an opportunity to feel smart. If you start to invalidate my superiority by pointing out how arbitrary and dramatic my response is then I'm going to downvote you.

  • Yeah I would love to see them do it. I mean hopefully it works and we can use it as a reference. If it fails, well that's their program.

Unfortunately they will bungle this shit the same way the fucked up their healthcare and it will just be a disaster.

  • They are both filled with very ill informed people. I guess that's all of the Internet though. People who have no clue are the first to give their opinions. The topics that are started by "low information voters" are often most popular with other low information voters.

  • Well, if your argument is: "any company that becomes a monopoly will abuse monopoly power", then sure I agree with you. You got me there!

My argument is: "given a reliable financial alternative to advertising, a company will be able to resist enshitification for a long time, as long as there is no absolute tyrannical monopoly."

I assumed the last part was implied and I'm sorry for the confusion!

  • On top of that, Egyptian military intelligence warned Mossad about an imminent invasion and Mossad ignored them. The Israelis are going to be asking their government a lot of very hard questions over the best decade.

Understanding War | Russian Offensive July 8th, 2023, Day 500

understandingwar.org Institute for the Study of War

Five hundred days ago Russia launched an unprovoked war of conquest against Ukraine. The Russian military intended to take Kyiv within three days but failed to accomplish any of its intended objectives in Ukraine. Determined and skillful Ukrainian

I rarely read this sort of thing. It's honestly just very dense and I can't motivate myself to read it every day. That said, with the new cluster bombs getting shipped to Ukraine and some Western pundits accusing the Counteroffensive of stagnation I kind of just wanted to know, "What the actual F is going on in Ukraine right now?"

    So my partial TLDR is:

    • It's very early in the counteroffensive to say who is "winning".
    • The source publication believes that the Ukrainian Army is focusing on inflicting disproportionate casualties onto the Russian Military in lieu of focusing on taking back land as quickly as possible.
    • There's a lot of uncertainty inside the Russian political sphere and the upper echelons of the Ministry of Defense.
