So I can subscribe for 1 month, download all the exclusive content, and then turn my membership off/back on based on the value I think I'm getting?
media.ccc.de is a great specialized "streaming service" too, mostly supported by NewPipe (oddly not Grayjay yet). I can understand German decently so I don't have issues with the bilingual content. If you like Chaos Congress talks, you can also try DEFCON and other ones available on YouTube but I didn't feel like including any of them because they're just uploads of slightly different kinds of media, much like HBO's Last Week Tonight channel I also subscribe to.
Because I manually download videos to watch on the bus or train (thanks Grayjay & NewPipe), most of my subscriptions are for long-form, often listenable content:
Retro Tech: Techmoan, Technology Connections, Posy, Janus Cycle, CRD, Ben Eater, DiodeGoneWild, pannenkoek2012, videolabguy, Adrian's Digital Basement,The Science Elf, previously LGR and 8-Bit Guy/Keys
Science: Kuvina Saydaki, BobbyBroccoli, Numberphile, Computerphile, carykh
Tech News & Discussion (not always long-form): Louis Rossmann, Mental Outlaw, Brodie Robertson, SomeOrdinaryGamers, Asianometry, Atomic Shrimp, previously Thunderf00t
Urbanism: Not Just Bikes, Adam Something, Alan Fisher, Tramly, BritMonkey
D&D Story Narration: CritCrab, Puffin Forest
Bold channels are most underrated imo
If you really want a prebuilt one, of course.
Person who invented sorting algorithms watching you sort by new "to avoid algorithms":

(yes, I'm also guilty of milking the ancient computer science vs. venture capital vocabulary joke; if you wanna start a flamewar better do it about "sorting" vs "ordering")
YouTube versions are already compressed and lacking in detail. It's really best to generate locally. If the work computer is running Windows, you can use the geq
filter.

A few more logos I drew earlier

These were made soon after I learnt about Blåmba, a Blåhaj-themed provider of content for retro phones running on GSM networks at Chaos Computer Club's events since 2023. There was a dire lack of Blåhaj among these 72x14 1bpp pictures ("operator logos") you can use on the home screen instead of the name of your phone carrier.
This is a follow-up to the previous post (follow link for more details) although I drew these about a month earlier.

Tech-Related "Operator Logos"

Nokia allowed people to receive 72x14, 1bpp pictures over a series of binary- or hex-encoded SMS messages, and have them show up instead of their carrier name on the home screen. In the 2000s, magazine ads and webpages would distribute them using premium-SMS.

This service, also featuring ringtones, games etc. has been revived, free of charge, by MtF hacker @[email protected] of the Chaos Computer Club. You can go to Blåmba.de and download all kinds of content into your retro phone.
The service has been discussed in detail at her 38C3 talk: [media.ccc.de](https://
My GSM service provider still runs 2G (it's the only way to connect in very remote areas) and you can use it to connect to the internet using various old technologies, such as:
- EDGE (best 2G connection with a symmetrical few kB/s, multiple adjacent phone call channels dynamically allocated as available)
- GPRS (single phone channel but packets sent only when needed)
- ISDN/CSD (continuous call but with digital data instead of an audio codec)
- fucking ANALOG DIAL-UP over a normal call's digital audio codec
The provider (T-Mobile CZ) told me all above technologies are supported. I will be able to get my Nokia 3410 online to wap.blamba.de and download some of the oldest J2ME games once they tell me the access point parameters. Their web only mentions GPRS and EDGE configuration nowadays, neither of which works on the 3410 but I have successfully used both on newer phones like Nokia 6070 in 2025.
Yes, this is a different kind of device but if that is still available you can expect some pager providers to still work. Doctors still use them, I think. Truckers would use paged broadcasts over FM radio's RDS. I imagine Hezballah had their own transmitters. And yes, you can get GSM pagers - heck, the first SMS ever received was on a device that could not send them.

That's not a Tesla, dude (Edit: I see it now)

Someone expressed their anger about Elon on a Nio ET5 EV in Prague. It looks a bit like a Tesla but come on. Edit: they are right, unlike most Tesla owners that's a sure Elon simp right there
The Czech piece of paper reads "Elon Musk is a Nazi - Shame on you!"
I was wondering about OP's soft-eject floppy drive. Seems quite retrofuturistic.
You're drawing North Pole as an island? It's obviously a vertical stick, hence the name.

Virgins make a lunch order
Chads make a launch order
Both get referred to as 2K. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2K_resolution
I would prefer 2560×1440 to be called 2K5 but the industry is too comfortable with 2-letter resolutions now.
No, 1080p is 2K because its width is 1920 (close to 2000), 2160p is 4K (3840 px wide), 4320p is 8K (7680 px wide). It's not 1K, 4K and 16K.
The town name and state is also very easy to figure out, and you can easily verify it by checking where Musk will be holding a town hall today. For each of the most violently crossed-out words, D███ and C███████, there is just one first name matching whatever is visible. Yes, I copied and pasted letters from elsewhere and the width is correct.
Greedy marketers just wanted to show a higher number... That's why they switched from height to width, too.
By having seen a low-end 2017 laptop?
1080 rows of 1920 pixels each
1920 columns of 1080 pixels each
If 2K referred to the number of pixels, it would look like this:

FullHD is actually a little over 2M pixels.
takes the aspect ratio from 3:4 to 16:9. so pixel density is barely better
What? Screen aspect ratio and pixel density are quite different things. Most FullHD TVs are widescreen and have pixel density below 36 ppi, and while high-DPI 4:3 screens are rare, they are not impossible in any way.
The terms "2K" and "4K" were totally commonplace since about 2010, although not as prevalent as 1080p. I hate how the video industry switched to marketing horizontal resolution (and rounding it up) just to make the number look big.
I know the difference but there are lots of people who aren't really savvy with video technology. I wouldn't blame them for thinking that [🢐 1080 🢒] is just barely better than 1024x768.
2k and 4k does not refer to horizontal resolution but the number of pixels
Nope. 1920×1080 is 2 073 600 pixels, which would be 2M. "2K" is the horizontal resolution (1920) rounded up. A screen with literally 2K pixels would be around 50×40, lower than the crappiest handheld consoles.

The number vs. arrow direction on this sticker...

![Acer laptop professional photo, closeup on left hinge. Black and gold "FULL **HD** [🢐 1080 🢒]" sticker below LCD.](https://lazysoci.al/pictrs/image/afc88086-32dc-4faf-a8b7-600c76e56ddf.jpeg?format=webp)
There is enough confusion between horizontal resolutions (2K, 4K etc.) and vertical ones (1080p, 2160p etc.). This is not helping; why even print a promotional sticker with a number of pixels smaller than what it should be?

Let's see if I can list all Czech roundabouts with circumference larger than 100 m
text
area[admin_level=2][name="Česko"]; way[highway][junction=roundabout](area) -> .all; make counter num = 0 -> .count; foreach.all { if (! lrs_in(u(id()), visited_ids.set(t['ids']))) { complete { node(w); way.all(bn); } make visited ids = lrs_union(set(id()), visited_ids.set(t['ids'])) -> .visited_ids; .count convert counter num = t['num'] + 1 -> .count; make stat circ=sum(length()),wids=set(id()); out; } } .count out;
Warning: Not all of these are actual roundabouts, unless I manually checked them (see icon)! The links point to one of consecutive line segments that have the junction=roundabout
property, and the number is their total length in meters!

On HIIT timers, why does "F" stand for "work" and "C" for "rest"?

Is this based on another language?
Are custom video IDs possible? Look at the URL!

YouTube Video

We've always thought that YouTube assigns a 11-character base64 video ID randomly to each upload. However, the video The ATM Glitch That Made a Millionaire by Joeseppi has the ID m4Fi_a9QATM
that ends with ATM
, which is a 1 in 262 144 chance . The first 6 characters are also kinda sus.
Do you think joeseppi write a script to repeatedly start uploading the video, check the URL and abort if it didn't contain the three letters? Or found a glitch similar to the one used by bad apple but it's a QR code that links to this video? Or is it pure luck?
I could not find an official statement on that, and was unable to contact him.

When will "Star Wars: A New Hope" enter public domain?
Assuming copyright laws don't change by then, otherwise there is no way to know.
A plausible answer is 1977 (when the film was released as Star Wars) + 95 years (for pre-1978 works) = after 2072. However, the film had been edited by George Lucas for the 1997 "Special Edition" release. Does this mean that I cannot publicly play the Special Edition VHS tape I have at home in 2073 and have to wait until 2093, or perhaps 70 years after GL's death?
George Lucas has been infamously attempting to erase copies of the original movie. Therefore, no HD home video release for the 1977 film exists, however, a fan effort known as the "Despecialized Edition" compiled different versions of the movie from various sources, patching the Special Edition 4K Blu-ray rip to try to replicate the original 1977 experience. Does this legally questionable version enter public domain in 2072, or does this only apply to official (SD) releases?
Anyway, the Despecialized Edition project as well as George Lucas'

Logo reads "alhua"... to prevent thieves from searching for "disable dahua security camera"?

Missing apostrophes on 9/11 memorial

::: spoiler Transcript Part of a 9/11 memorial: marble trapezoidal prism block in the corner of a paved area in a park. Silver writing in modern font reminiscent of Nokia Standard Multiscript, used in Symbian mobile OS UI:
"Lets Roll"
On September 11, 2001 United Flight 93 took off from Newark International Airport in New Jersey with 38 passengers and a crew of 7. While in flight, the plane was hijacked by terrorists. Passengers on board knew about the other hijacked planes and took action. "Lets Roll" was their call to action. The passengers over powered the terrorists and the plane crashed in Shanksvillle, Pennsylvania killing all on board. It was believed that the plane was headed towards another target location in Washington D.C.
The penultimate line is in noticeably smaller font to accommodate its length, and so is the centered title for some reason. Most of the text is left-justified but the last three lines are centered, fit and right-aligned, respectively. The quote mark
