  • Every incremental step along the way is immediately profitable. The thought process would be "Somebody will stop it from getting that far, and when THAT happens I'll support the anti-authoritarian movement, but UNTIL then, all the other oligarchs are profiting from these incremental steps towards authoritarianism, and when the anti-authoritarianism kicks in there'll be no further short-term profit opportunities to exploit so I don't wanna be the only one who didn't avail of them when they were available".

  • Bystander effect/Nash equilibrium. Unless they're ALL doing it, none of them want to be the ONLY sucker who's forgoing short-term profit opportunities for the benefit of all. This is what government is supposed to enforce on them: forcing them ALL to support democracy.

  • At this point it's just a signature calling card. Like the Wet Bandits leaving all the taps running. Ensuring that everybody knows who did it, without officially claiming responsibility, is intended as a power move to remind everyone that Comrade Major is always listening so toe the line

  • It's a code that Chinese internet users use to refer to Xi Jinping. Or at least they used to. The CCP caught on and now that phrase gets auto deleted off of Chinese websites. "Tiananmen, Winnie the Pooh" proves I'm not a Chinese AI, and "8647, Luigi Mangione" proves I'm not an American one. I'm not really sure what would prove I'm not a Russian one. "Fuck Vladimir Putin"?

Now that we know the Doctor had incarnations prior to the First, do you think a previous incarnation of the Doctor must have met the Abbot of Amboise?

The fact that the Abbot was an exact doppelganger for the Doctor has always been an unexplained mystery. Steven even examined the Abbot's corpse up close and still believed him to have been the Doctor. But since the release of "The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve", we have learned new info about the Doctor that casts this mystery in a new light:

    1. The Doctor can sometimes subconsciously "choose" their new face when regenerating, as in the cases of the Curator Doctor resembling the Fourth Doctor, the Twelfth Doctor resembling Lobus Caecilius, and the Fourteenth Doctor resembling the Tenth Doctor.
    2. The First Doctor was not, in fact, the first Doctor, but a regeneration, with tge Doctor having had many unknown incarnations and unknown adventures prior to this one.

With this in mind, how likely would we say it is that a prior incarnation of the Doctor (the Fugitive Doctor, for instance) actually met the Abbot on a hitherto-unseen adventure, and that when the Doctor regenerated into

Secret Russian Intelligence Document Shows Deep Suspicion of China

In public, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia says his country’s growing friendship with China is unshakable — a strategic military and economic collaboration that has entered a golden era.

But in the corridors of Lubyanka, the headquarters of Russia’s domestic security agency, known as the F.S.B., a secretive intelligence unit refers to the Chinese as “the enemy.”

Tales of the Underworld - Discussion (SPOILERS WITHIN)

A new "Tales of" series dropped on Disney+ on its usual date of May the Fourth (Be With You). This is the third "Tales of" miniseries, with the previous two being "Tales of the Jedi" (with vignettes from the lives of Ahsoka Tano and Jedi Master Dooku) and "Tales of the Empire" (with vignettes from the lives of fallen Jedi Barriss Offee and Nightsister survivor Morgan Elsbeth). This time it's about the world of organized crime in the galaxy, covering the latter years of Asajj Ventress and the early years of Cad Bane.

How would you rate this miniseries compared to the previous two?

    Andor - SPOILERS WITHIN

Hey, a Star Wars community seemed like a no-brainer so I made one. Hope this is OK! Anyway, Andor has recently finished and IMO it kinda changes the paradigm for the entire franchise. This is definitely the most Le Carré-esque that Star Wars has ever been, and I love it. There's a lot of depth to it and not everything is explicitly spelled out in the script but more implied, and I love that the show trusts its audience to be able to read between the lines on some things. What do you guys think?
