That's a shame, looks like he ran one of the many companies around at that time that would offer a "free" scan because you're "at risk" and then harass you to buy it after. For a guy who was involved in some competent software during a time when Microsoft made decent products it's a shame he left to start that nonsense.
In any case, the insight into Microsoft in the video i still find interesting but yeah fuck that guy. Wouldn't buy anything from him, even if it has been 20 years.
It's growing popularity here, where people praise it constantly. If the average person gets sick of Microsoft's shit they're probably just going to Mac.
Having been with android since it's first mainstream phones (and not rooting), a lot of those were made up non issues over the years and I've consistently been at parity or better with ios, with one exception - God damn fucking Google recreating their own messaging apps to be separate and worse and then shutting them down when they fail! Now with every company's nonsense AI push you have Google replacing assistant with Gemini, which does less and their LLM is clearly the worst (hence the Google search result memes), and this messaging thing. Modern Google is the worst thing to happen to android.
What's the long term play? We can teach our parents as best as we can and we can teach our kids the same, but from what i can tell they don't really even care. What happens in 50 years, will the biggest tech companies just have unprecedented control of what people see and can do because no one who doesn't get a career in it, just won't care how things work?
Dave Plummer recently put out a video on why he thinks windows upgrades are free now. I found it interesting.
You've sullied my quick answer:
The assistant figures it out though:
Everyone here seems to be in on something that I've missed.
Edit: I read a reuters article, I see he met with JD yesterday.
Assigned male at birth.
I didn't know lichess existed until I found an extension that opens my chess.com match review into lichess, since the review is free there.
When I used imgur, it had 2 bots, this time last year and a repost detecting bot. I thought that was useful, and the userbase over time got sick of the repost one.
When I used reddit, with all of the different subreddits, every dork on there felt like they needed to create a bot for any niche or joke but they made it opt out, instead of in. That was excessive and i found it annoying.
I hope Lemmy stays closer to the first example, or no bots at all.
Well stop it
Recommendation on running home assistant
How do you guys run home assistant?
I tried out home assistant using virtual box on my main pc and I enjoyed what I could do with it so far. So, I ordered a mini pc (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C89TQ1YF/) with the intention of running home assistant's OS so that it's always running regardless of Windows doing what it wants with my PC.
I run other things all the time on my main pc too, plex, isponsorblocktv, tartube, things like that. Is running just home assistant on that mini pc going to be overkill? Should I just put Linux on it and run home assistant on there some other way so that I can also run some of these other things there? Will home assistant take a noticeable performance hit?
I always remember back in world of warcraft, before you had flying mounts, there were spots you could spam jump on to slowly climb the barrier mountains and get up to the flat area they never meant for you to see. Good times.
With a gesture over to him even.
What is sublinks? An alternative to Lemmy?
Mines -12% YTD. At least I'm not retiring anytime soon.
It's a stretch, but i wonder if things like the onion, with us laughing at the insane stories has had any impact on the general reaction to what's happening now. Like people don't really care.
That's what pushes it over into a threat I believe. Just using the other words would normally be fine and protected speech.
So cops can’t hold your phone in front of your face to unlock it if you do this.
If you have android (and probably ios too) give your phone a quick restart if you have the opportunity to achieve the same thing.
That might be true, but in this post you say you were doing it only a year ago and still fight the urge to shoplift so it's probably still worth looking into.
Mostly. Their transcription getting the wrong words are more of the issue.
