  • You have had some really good replies so far.

In the mountains realty could mean anything

    • I've done winter camping in snow - in the mountains
    • I've done summer camping (in snow, shit can go sideways) - in the mountains
    • I've done subtropical camping - in the mountains
    • I've done temperate camping - in the mountains
    • I've done 90 mph wind camping - in the mountains
    • I've also done some absolutely drop dead breathtaking camping in the mountains

As others have said, beperpaired for it to be colder than you expect.

Are you walking / hiking in, or car?

    Enjoy it

  • unfortunately I can relate - although not on the way to particularly anywhere just a walk with both kids. I ended up carrying a scooter over my shoulder and bending down to push a 3y/o's bike...

  • Not really sure of the question.

on my smaller batched I will normally use just a single full dose, anything above 15-20 l I split it

  • no the honey wasn't wet, in fact it was a bit on the dry side (was recovered from a plastic pallet that wet honey had leaked onto - not that clean so couldn't go into the batch). Being on the dry side it was hard to get to fully dissolve - thus the est on the OG.

It was 5L of honey and I used the GotMead calc. I'm not too worried if it's on the upper end of a starting OG and it stays a little on the sweet side.

For fermentation time, I'm in no hurry and I expect it will sit in primary for the next 3 or 4 weeks.

I'll probably give it a second dose of fermaid tomorrow

    Happy little bugs

This is a Rewarewa mead started over the long weekend

    • 7.5kg honey
    • made to 20 L
    • fermaid at
    • champagne style ec1118 yeast
    • est to be a og of about 1.113
  • The images load (and expand) on my instance, so it would appair to be something on your end

  • The biggest problem I see is you 'guys' exporting it less well off countries where immunization rates are even lower. see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Samoa_measles_outbreak for how bad it can get

  • "And on behalf of the American people, I own the store, and I set prices,"

  • I really think that some of those products would be very easy to avoid

  • ih ah bit coal oot?

at least that waht it sounded like up north yorks when I first moved there from New Zealand

  • Dave has covered off what I would read, but sometimes the editorial styly of stuff can be a bit lackluster.

  • This is one thing I don't get for the complaints about EV's: Drag and towing. You have the same losses in ICE, just that the ICE powerplant is so much worse 'before' the drive

  • get one of Phil Lester's students to look into them as a phd project

  • just take care, lemmy is still small so it is easy to flood a front page

An entomologist says the spread of Portuguese millipedes across Wellington - and beyond - is almost certain after residents on the south coast sounded the alarm about infestations of the invasive species.

Residents have described waking to find hundreds of scaly black millipedes around their homes, discovering them in shoes, bags and even their beds.

Biosecurity New Zealand said the invertebrate had been identified on the south coast and in Lower Hutt for about 20 years, but not much was known about it.

A local councillor is now calling for an urgent meeting with local authorities to discuss how to tackle the problem.

  • at 20 years in the area - good luck with that

I do wonder why they seem to be turning up more now and if they are spreading

  • some good comments here, I'd just add two things:

    • be genuine in your posts
    • don't post to lots of communities at the same time - I will ban posters if I see 3 or more posts landing on my instance

But other than than I hope to see you OC sometime

  • could the last one be S. capensis? We have S. capensis and S. grossa here in NZ and both can be quite variable

  • forgot about Yellow Dog. I still have a BSD VM (Dragonfly) that I occasionally fire up

  • I started with Mandrake 6 when the there were lots of 9's or 0's in the year

    Then bounced from Slackware/opensuse/Red Hat/Debian/Gentoo/BSD

Now running Kde Neon and MacOS (Debian and BSD as server OSs)

Bushwalk with one of the kids

We set off up a small stream with no path, just me and one of the kids. She was thrilled, bouncing ahead and splashing into the water without hesitation. There was no trail to guide us, just rocks to hop over, branches to duck under, and the steady sound of the stream winding its way through the trees. Each little obstacle felt like a new discovery—a mossy rock here, a shiny stone there. For her, every step felt like a small victory.

On the way up, she took her time, inspecting leaves and sticks, occasionally pointing things out with the excitement only kids can muster. She laughed whenever her shoes slipped in the water, not minding a bit when her pants got wet. With each step, she got braver, happily stepping into the deeper parts and challenging herself to cross even slipperier stones. There was no rush or goal, just pure enjoyment of being somewhere wild and free.

The way back was even better. She wasn’t worried about getting wet anymore; she was already soaked! Every splash was

Money Game. Part 2. Ren Gill

    After the last few days

... Money is a game and the ladder we climb

Turns a saint into a sinner with his finger in crime

I'll break it down for you motherfuckers line by line

This is business economics in a nursery rhyme

She sells seashells on a seashore

But the value of these shells will fall

Due to the laws of supply and demand

No one wants to buy shells 'cause there's loads on the sand

Step 1: you must create a sense of scarcity

Shells will sell much better if the people think they're rare, you see Bare with me, take as many shells as you can find and hide 'em on an island stockpile 'em high until they're rarer than a diamond

Step 2: you gotta make the people think that they want 'em

Really want 'em, really fuckin want 'em

    Hit 'em like Bronson

Influencers, product placement, featured prime time entertainment

If you haven't got a shell then you're just a fucking waste man

    Feature interview: Kahurangi National Park

The Nature of Kahurangi National Park and Northwest Nelson

At the top of the South Island, the Kahurangi National Park and adjoining areas are home to many plants and animals that aren't found anywhere else on the planet. Kahurangi means precious; to be prized and award-winning writer Dave Hansford wants all New Zealanders to understand why the biodiversity and beauty of this region is exactly that, prized and precious.

His new work is more than a coffee table book with stunning pictures of the landscape and wildlife. It's a plea to protect this sacred and wild land from the political, economic and social forces that jeopardize its future.

The book is called Kahurangi: The Nature of Kahurangi National Park and Northwest Nelson
