Yo [he/him]
Don't DM me, find me on matrix instead
Alts at:

Καλησπερεςς

I see them nearly every other day, but I realise not everyone does😅
They look nice

Ummm, first thanks for the info, second those comments on the video are really scary... They seem to promote concentrarion camps........ Third, CNN here doesnt seem to aknowledge that it is a concentration camp and seems to dehumanize the prisoners (at least judging from the title)

Wait, the top one isnt a photo from ww2?...
Umm, thanks for these images, it really puts it in perspective. I knew that they were fascists and have shown it many times, but here it looks so clear

Xonotic is somewhat fun, but crowded deathmatch servers (not team deathmatch, simply deathmatch) are kind of chaotic. If you find people on matrix spaces you may get some people to play it with you too:)

Aww🥰

Yeah I've used some of them, they even have mini-games, haha

You want an actual solution to the problem instead of a fake solution that will generate other problems for those in power to take advantage of (like censoring, reducing privacy etc.)?? Wow.. I'm with you

Going after the most vulnerable groups of people, the easiest to attack, and working their way to less vulnerable groups until they're attacking them all

Olive video editor - 2025-03 update
Seems like the developer is back with a video update on the program's development.
Some points I understood:
- The developer made some rethinking of the whole project
- The node editor got a rewrite from C++ to C#, a higher level language, to make development easier (I think the filters themselves are in lower level language, it just affectst the node editor).
- With the rise of godot and video editors becoming 2D/3D pipelines, the developer based the rendering engine on godot.
- The developer wants to make the editor modular and easy to extend.
- The developer says that the following months will try to work on getting olive to a stable release:)

I think in one of the lastest videos he had said he was running around various doctors and would have to keep searching, maybe we'll get an update by the end of the year😅
PS. So cool that Styropyro was my thought too, lol

Ayy I can see myself there!

You could try checking a comment I had made some time ago:

Energize, fastnfitness and openscale might be helpful:)

Yeah, there are vpns that say that they dont keep logs and allow portforwarding. Check out a recent post in this community about vpns: https://lemmy.zip/post/34924276

[Btw, I'm not a lawer, just because my comment is long don't consider it correct:)]
Tl;dr: From what I understand, they're gonna ask the internet providers (though it might also include vpn providers, streaming services etc.) any info about you that they consider necessary (so you could assume anything they have about you). So my opinion is, if you have a proper vpn that follows the zero-trust model, it should probably protect you. The main new thing here is that it has become illegal to consume pirated media (instead of only sharing them).
In the article you posted, there's the governmental announcement too:
https://search.et.gr/el/fek/?fekId=777704
From the article you posted:

I couldnt find what is defined as providers in Paragraph 10A from article 66E (this should be stated in pages 583-585)

Wait, newpipe works for me (I'm from Greece if that matters). Running version 0.27.6

I use both😈
(And both on pc and android:)

but they are all in Greek
Haha sure, send me the greek ones, μπορω να τα διαβασω:)

I would add Edward Jeans (Greece) https://www.edward.gr/

Yo, 2 things:
- I too heard that about Greece, but I couldnt find any article about it, only stuff I heard from others which they probably read them on FB. Do you have any (reputable) article coverthing this? I just considered those roumors it as fearmongering and moved on.
- Yo, since I haven't seen you around, just to know, we have a sonewhat active greek community at https://fedia.io/m/Greece

Oi, thanks for all of your hard work Sal!
I was thinking, I'm just interacting with lemmy and when the server goes down I almost never expect it to not go up again. But it doesn't run on magic, for the server to go back up online and work properly, you work a lot (depending on the severity of the issue) and like today it can get really stressfull:/ What I might take for granted, it really isn't on your end.
So thanks again for making this place alive again, good luck learning more about the details of image storage (hopefully there might be people who can help on lemmy) and I also see that pictures work properly now, congratulations:))

This place is back online!
Yay, nice to see mander back up and running.
May I ask, do we know what happened?
Also, should we maybe have a matrix chat or something as a backup communication channel?

Can you convert an android apk to a linux package?
Supposing we have an open source android app, (how) could one convert it to a linux distro package? (Like for debian, nixos, etc.)
Android is essentially a linux distro if I get it correctly, a heavily modified one.
Many android apps are written with java and the newer ones tend to go with kotlin, which I think should be able to run cross-platform.
Would hard of an attempt would this be?
Edit: Thank you people! From what I gather android is very far from the rest of linux distros (practically having in common only a few parts of the kernel) and the fact that apps tend to be written in java/kotlin doesnt have much of a difference if they are not built in a way that makes the cross-platform compatible (like godot engine does). Those apps will probably need to do many system calls to the android OS, soI can't just compile them for a different architecture. I'd either need an android translation layer or an emulator to run them.
Unrelated, but cool to see some familiar usernames:)

YSK there are open-source (gamified) tutorials to learn git
I was trying to learn git and after searching a bit, I finally found some good open-source tutorials. Specifically, I followed those two tutorials, in this order:
- https://ohmygit.org/ (a computer application)
- https://learngitbranching.js.org/ (a website)
The second seems to cover a bit more advanced topics (it teaches more thoroughly about remote repositories)
Also after an alternativeto search and a post here, I found three more open-source resources:
- https://www.gitmastery.me/ (a modern website)
- https://github.com/vishal2376/git-coach (an android application covering the very very basics)
- https://github.com/jlord/git-it-electron (An old computer application)
PS. Prior to these I had a basic git course, which I think wasn't enough, but probably helped me either way and after this I had checked some git resources, which gave more of a rounded knowl

Does lucida have temporary and frequent issues?
Edit: turns out .su seems to work, while .to doesnt
I'm noticing that about half the time I try to download music from lucida, it fails reporting:
undefined
uh-oh! An error occurred. JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data
To test it, I tried:
- different download sources (qobuz, deezer, tidal etc.)
- different qualities/encodings (opus, flac, original etc.)
- random different songs/albums (and even downloading tracks individually)
- using different devices
But still it fails. Do they have issues with the accounts they use to download the tracks or is it something else? This kind of issue tends to be fixed a few hours later.

How to use discrete amd gpu in bottles (or globally)
After about a month of using Nixos, I realized my apps don't use my discrete gpu. I have an intel cpu with integrated graphics and a discrete amd gpu. On windows I had set all apps to use discrete gpu when the laptop was on power. Before I say more, some info for my system:
My main issue is that my bottles apps (bottles is a win

Serbia’s prime minister and Novi Sad mayor resign as anti-corruption protests grow
A canopy collapse, which killed 15 people in the city of Novi Sad, has become a flashpoint reflecting wider discontent with the increasingly autocratic rule of populist President Aleksandar Vucic.
BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Serbia’s populist Prime Minister Milos Vucevic resigned Tuesday in an attempt to calm political tensions following weeks of massive anti-corruption protests over the deadly collapse of a concrete canopy. The canopy collapse in November, which killed 15 people in the northern city of Novi Sad, has become a flashpoint reflecting wider discontent with the increasingly autocratic rule of Serbia’s populist President Aleksandar Vucic. He has faced accusations of curbing democratic freedoms in Serbia despite formally seeking European Union membership for the troubled Balkan nation. Novi Sad Mayor Milan Djuric also will step down on Tuesday, Vucevic said. Vucevic’s resignation could lead to an early parliamentary election.

Help needed to pick an anarchist matrix server
Hello, I'm thinking of creating a matrix account after a long time and I thought about creating one on an anarchist server (like something with similar ideas in this lemmy server). Do you have any suggestions? I was looking at this database, but it says it has gone down and they provide a json list.
I found https://4d2.org/ , but I saw that they removed the mention of anarchy
from their description. (Compare this snapsot from 2025/01/05 with today's snapsot.)
Hopefully this is the correct place to ask, if not, pls direct me to a more appropriate community:)
Edit: The admin of the server told me that 4d2 became a non-profit company (https://www.acabinc.org/) and they don't want to look that political to avoid any legal issues (I think they have to be non-politicaland su

New Deemix development by another developer
Contribute to bambanah/deemix development by creating an account on GitHub.
I just saw that the github user bambanah seems to has started to continue the development of deemix!!
There's now a docker image you can use too.
Reddit link with more info about it: https://web.archive.org/web/20250114172700/https://old.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/1g5nar6/deezer_downloader_deemix_has_been_revived_on/
I see many posts about piracy services closing down, so maybe this post gives some hope:)

Finally transitioned to NixOS!!

After around 4 months of reading manuals, forums, watching tutorials and asking online, I've eventually managed to have an almost properly working NixOS installation on my pc and wiped the Win10 partition (I have win10 in a VM as a fallback mechanism)!
I started this journey initially wanting to switch to linux and I started my tests with Debian Stable. But the repo was really old (as expected), so I tried the Testing variant. But this repo had missing packages. I tried Unstable for a few moments too, but I crashed and didn't want to bother. I figured that I could make a script to (declaratively?) fetch and auto update packages from github, bypassing Debian Testing.
Then it was when I looked at NixOS and found out that the whole system kinda does what my script would do, but much much much better. Almost ever since then I tried to learn almost everything I needed and a few extra stuff to get it working. This is the [configuration](https://codeberg.org/BlastboomStrice/dotfiles/src/bra

System configuration files check wanted
Hello everyone, I'm very close to finishing my configuration files for NixOS. I have those working on my nixos installation on my external drive, but before I officially move to nixos I'd like to make sure that I'm not doing something wrong.
Could someone please check my config files? (I only use flakes.nix, configuration.nix, home.nix and hardware.nix and I'd say they aren't much complicated.)
My main concearn is that I probably use the import
and modules
functions wrong (yet somehow they work?). I've read and watched numerous guides for the last 3 months, but I think I still mess this up😅. I think following a bunch of different guides and videos added to the confusion a bit. (A recent guide I read made me have doubts about my set up.)
This is the link to my nixos configs:

Hopefully by the end of the next week I'll be p

The Ubuntu Summit 2024 has been and gone, and with it we had a lot of good talks but with our focus on here with gaming there's two that stand out that you may wish to have a look at.

2 months old article, but the video explains well what and how Umu launcher works.
Essentially I think it replaces Steam's runtime environment, by doing kinda what this runtime does, but for all games (even non-steam ones). It has a database to match the games, so that umu knows what scripts to run the game (like setting environment variables, installing dependencies etc.).
Lutris now (if I understood well) uses umu when you choose the proton runner. You can enable it in Heroic launcher as well. You can also run umu "bare" through command line, by creating the wine prefix, feeding it a name to match it to the database and let it do its work (I think this is presented at around 01:30:00 mark). As time passes, more programs seem to adopt it.
It's a ~40mins presentation which starts about after the first hour in the video. Took me really long to understand how this works, hope it will help others (posting it here as cracked games tend to be installed out of steam).😅

2024 Novi Sad protests and blockades (schools, campuses, roads) - Wikipedia
I just came across a post talking about this and I haven't seen it anywhere else. Anyone wanna talk about it? It seems big. There seem to be really many protests right now in Serbia.
On 1 December, a silent march was held in Novi Sad to commemorate one month since the collapse. By early December, Serbian students had begun organizing 24-hour blockades at some school campuses. By mid-December, more than 50 university campuses and multiple secondary schools had suspended classes due to student protests. On 11 December, students demonstrated at the headquarters of television station RTS, for their broadcasting of President Aleksandar Vučić's claims that demonstrators are being funded by Western countries who seek to destabilize Serbia. On 13 December, farmers in central Serbia blocked a road with tractors. As of December, protesters continue to gather in large numbers, demanding justice for the victims of the collapse and greater transparency in governance. Police presence in the c

Where should I declare the packages I want to install?
I've been trying nixos recently and after watching a bunch of tutorials from various people, I have managed to enable home-manager and flakes.
My question is: where should I write the packages I want to install? In home.nix? In flakes.nix? In configuration.nix (probably not)? I'm probably only gonna have a single user on this machine.
So far, I think the only difference between writing the packages in home.nix compared to flakes.nix is that in the 1st senario, the apps will only be available for the user, while in the 2nd, it will be available for the whole system. Also, I could use the home.nix for non-nixos systems too. Other than that, I can probably write them the same way either on home.nix or flakes.nix and have the same result on my machine.
PS. On search.nixos.org there is an option to search for flakes. What is this? I am planing to get my packages from the packages tab, but I'm wondering that maybe I should search in the flakes tab instead (though it doesn't seem to ha

Using Debian Stable as complementary to Testing
Hello everyone! It's been about a month that I'm experimenting Debian on an external disk. For the most time, I've been using Testing. The issue is, that some packages are missing from Testing, while they exist on Stable (or on Unstable). The biggest problem with that is that some packages require dependencies that don't exist on the Testing repo and as such I can't install those apps.
So, I thought about adding the Stable repo, at a lower priority. If something doesn't exist on Testing, it will grab it from Stable.
How bad is that approach? I'm not doing the reverse (using stable and grabbing apps from testing), which might be way worse. Does anyone else do that? I couldn't find anything related online.
PS. I'm a bit tempted to switch to Unstable all together, but I don't know if I'll be careful enough to use it in the long run.
PPS. I might build a home nas at some point (with Debian Stable) and keep regular backups of my laptop so that I'll be kinda safe if I ever switch to Un

Help running cracked (or not) windows games on linux
Context:
I'm currently running Debian 12.7 on VirtualBox, trying out linux before I become experienced enough to fully switch my drive to linux. I have an i5 cpu and an amd radeon gpu on my laptop. I run kde-plasma with wayland.
I have sorted out some basic stuff, but my current problem is how to play the few games I have on linux ("Counter-strike 1.6", "Hades I", "MGR: Revengeance", "Minecraft" (t-launcher) and "Outer-Wilds"). I want ro move their game data too, but I think that's a simple copy paste on the appropriate paths. I also want to run a few other programs, possibly Notepad++ and mp3tag, but I think I can figure those if I fugre the games.
I know about the existance of Wine, Winetricks (though not very good at using it), Proton, Lutris, Bottles and Heroic (and PlayOnLinux which I haven't installed).
I have installed Lutris (flatpak), Bottles (flatpak) and Heroic (Appimage).
I have successfully manually installed Notepad++ in Bottles using soda-9.0.1

How to deal with gas from high fiber food?
I want to start eating more frequently plant-based foods, especially oats, lentils, chickpeas, etc. which are high on fiber. The thing is, I'm kinda hesitant to do so, because almost every time I eat them, soon enough I get the side effects for the rest of the day and the fact that I might spend a lot of time outside without going home doesn't help me.. (One solution would be to change some social norms around gas or feel less insecure.. I try to help others who are in my place to feel comfortable, but I don't know if others would do that for me🤷)
What could I do to help this situation? Is it possible for my body to digest it properly or will always cause extra gas?
Ideas I have read/thought so far (with some questions):
- Soaking them in water for 12+hours and throwing the water. How many nutriens do I lose that way? How does it work? (I read somewhere that it simply takes away some sugars which cause digestion issues.) Does it work for all grains and seeds?
- Putting them in a
