Sometimes when I write stuff in spaces that attract feds (like hexbear possibly) I will be extra cautious of what I write (but always honest) and have this unrealistic expectation that it might convince the fed reading it that they’re the bad guys

I agree with your observations, but one thing that brings me some joy is the amount of children that were there and shouting free Palestine. I hope this protest will have a long lasting impression on them and that they will keep shouting for a free Palestine until Palestine is free.

Other things that bring me joy is the seething of zio’s because this was the largest protest in 20 years which shows how fucking unpopular their position is and that all the liberals that were at the protest now get called hamas supporters by zio’s.

Israel cheated by buying targeted ads to zionists around Europe to call upon them to vote 20 times for Israel even if they don’t watch or care about Eurovision. This is why they won the popular vote this year and last year.

Hexbear loves to hate on Eurovision but I used to love watching it for the spectacle and the incredible staging. It’s cool to see what a small artists would do if they suddenly had almost limitless resources for their staging. Of course there’s a lot of professional teams working on it as well and not all artists have the creative freedom to make those decisions but the ones that do are why I used to watch it.

When I learned that probably the biggest reason why it still exists and why it’s so well funded is because it’s a very effective campaign to normalise Israel I had to stop watching. The special treatment Israel now gets at Eurovision (they get to have armed guards that harass all other performers and even got one banned from playing last year) really shows how important Israel and Eurovision are for each other.

This year they even banned all flags including gay pride flags because they needed an excuse to ban Palestinian flags.

The pretences keep the people satisfied. All over Europe there are daily protests and activists who engage in direct action. It’s been really difficult for the media to keep demonising these protesters and activists because more people are starting to look through the bs. Police forces are in crisis because suppressing the protests is really hard work. Also labour unions are slowly starting to get involved and demand an end to support of Israel.

Fully openly backing Israel would put fuel to the fire and accelerate these movements. Governments are walking tight rope between backing Israel and preventing mass riots and strikes at public sectors.

In The Netherlands the tide regarding Palestine is changing a bit (slowly though). Several cities are calling the genocide by its name and pressuring the government to stop supporting Israel. Also in a few cities student encampments have been set up again and this time more universities didn’t react by immediately calling the cops and are actually doing tiny concessions. The concessions are obviously not enough and purely symbolic but it’s a noticeable difference compared to last year where they didn’t engage in any conversation and implied that the protests are purely antisemitic.

Yeah for sure. But tbh deprogramming me was very easy because I was very open to the message, I just hadn’t encountered it before anywhere else. I didn’t first join hexbear when I came to lemmy, I started at a feddit instance and saw .worlders talking about the scary hexbear tankies and my immediate thought was that those hexbears sound pretty cool if they can scare libs so badly.

Then I read some stuff here about China and the Ukraine war that I didn’t know yet and it made sense that the media would lie about ‘enemy states’. Before I did not understand geopolitics at all because countries like China, Russia and Iran being inherently evil just didn’t make sense to me. Shouts outs to the news mega for educating me (I still have lots to learn).

Oh noes, someone dropped Western chauvinism in my local activist movement. I don’t get how supposed anticapitalists still believe in so called ‘Western values’.

They must not have a space like hexbear to deprogram them. Joining hexbear was great for my political development. Before I only read the news from Western mainstream media and hexbear basically showed me a lot of things that were omitted in the stories from these media.
