  • So if you buy it outright you get no discount? Is that his this works? And I'm guessing that the loan has some sort of fixed term or amount or something. I wonder if you end up saving any money if you can afford to buy it outright.

  • Naltrexone

  • It worked wonders for me at the start, but I seem to have pushed through and am now drinking almost as much again. I do feel more like I could quit now and it's more out of habit than urge.

  • Do you remember the bad old days when you'd go to someone's house and their browser would be unusable because it had so many toolbars installed? That was often from legit sites bundling crap into installers for software they hosted.

  • The bandwidth of a network card would generally outclass your internet connection by an order of magnitude.

Gigabits per second network cards have been standard for at least a decade.

And then there's your wifi too, if applicable, but even that is much faster than your general internet connection, unless you're far from your router. A new laptop might help you get a better wifi signal, if it had a newer wifi protocol or stronger radio, but that's also going to depend on your router.

But in front of all of that is going to be your modem. Depending on the quality of your modem that might be a bottleneck.

  • A new laptop, even the best in the world, won't make your downloads any faster.

I also back what everyone else is saying. Unless of course you can update your current laptop. What have you got? An extra stick of ram and an SSD can make an old laptop feel brand new, especially with an OS reinstall

  • Perth definitely used to. I feel there might have been one in Subiaco but the last time I went there would have 20 odd years ago. The one in Chatswood that closed either late last year or earlier this year. I guess it's a declining business

  • If was half a joke, but that mathematics might as well have been hieroglyphics.

Would you class this as computational theory? As a software developer is this field likely to be used in a day to day manner or is it more abstract than that?

  • I've been hiring programmers recently. A year or two experience wins out over a degree almost any time. I don't know if there are any developers (or even website administrators) at you current job, but if there are I'd see you if you can start by helping them out, maybe helping out when they're on leave or picking up little jobs and then you'll get your foot in the door in no time at all.

Actually the last dev I hired had no experience at all, I just really liked him, and he's turned out brilliantly.

  • But generally they would be parked, right? At the office, or transport hubs? Maybe that's where the batteries need to be installed. Take the responsibility off private citizens and install it where there's going to be a mass of cars parked.

  • I'd only ever say it while referring to myself, and when I do it's not of a consolation to myself or maybe as a way to tell the other person to not feel sorry about distracting me and making me forget. Is that the same way you interpret it?

Nethack - the ultimate low end system capable game

Nethack is now 36 years old, still in development, runs on windows, Linux, Apple and a multitude of other systems. You can run it in a console, remotely, if you don't have the ability to install or download to your computer. It's complex, difficult, entertaining and will soak up any free time you have.

I've played it on and off for a decade now and never made it past half way and have always learnt something new.

Have you got the Amulet of Yendor? Any stupid deaths? Surprising finds?
