  • I'm decently sure it was less so based on the earnings but rather the fact that so many people bought PUTS against tesla stock. Hedge funds figured they could use this to their advantage and the earnings report was an easy date to generate profit, even if on paper it sounds like a bad stock.

Don't get me wrong though, i hate tesla and elon.

  • Neat list, but imo photoshop is closer to being called a photomanipulation/image editor than photography. lightroom is the more dedicated photography software.

Also I wouldn't call paint.net an alternative to photoshop. I love paint.net but its a relatively simple image editor and its functionally limited even with plugins.

  • I miss in n out but at least my current state has a cheap burger joint. Its not as good but the cheapest option is like 2.50 which im not sure how that's financially possible tbh

  • Discord is never going to be profitable lmao

It can be a loss leader for microsoft, but at the end of the day, discord will always lose money. The operational cost of discord is way too high

This change just means more enshittification like with every ceo change.

Honestly they should just go full on points shops for spending money on xbox, like steam. Give out points to use for customization. That way they could at least make some incentive to use xbox and probably boost sales.

  • I genuinely can't believe they took away the microsd slot from modern phones

I even pre bought a card before getting my new phone because I just assumed it'd have the slot. Should've done more research i guess

  • For the number folks:

The most respondents cited high inflation (54%), Social Security not providing as much financial support as they need (43%), and high taxes (43%). Boomers (61%) were more likely than millennials (56%) or Gen Xers (55%) to say high inflation contributed to their fear of running out of money.

But this fear is more prominent among Gen Xers (70%) who are in their 40s and 50s and fast approaching retirement and millennials (66%) than boomers (61%) who are over 60 and many have already retired.

Asian/Asian American respondents (34%) were more likely to have discussed this fear than white (22%), Black/African American (28%), and Hispanic (25%) respondents.

Interestingly no mention of Gen Z, who I guess is just starting their careers so might be why?

Though I'd imagine the doom and gloom is just as high for Gen Z if not more.

  • There's a threshold to that, otherwise climate change would've been solved. But since it only affects a bit of agriculture and fishing, they just raise prices and continue with the same.

  • Insecurity exacerbated by the rise of social media. It's really easy for impressionable teens (not just them, but they are the most vulnerable group) to be affected directly by the consequences of social media. Toxic masculinity allows them to fall into the andrew tate trap because it tells them that this is the easy solution to the insecurities they face. I'd argue covid also made this problem worse as well

  • It's already been discussed on environmental impact in another comment, but even beyond that, AI does not mean slop. Sure, the majority is low quality slop, but legitimate use of AI is possible. It's a tool at the end of the day, and imo fully usable within reason. People just really like shitting on AI because they think all of it is slop.

Take for example the parody music video I sent. For a normal person, getting the budget to create that with real voice actors would probably be around the thousands/tens of thousands. The other alternatives would be voice stitching, which ends up being a distinct style (think tf2 voice chops) or hiring cheap voice actors who will 99% not be able to replicate a character's voice like that. In short, a creation simply only possible by AI.

Another one would be the scooby doo ai voice incident. The creator was a normal student, and instead of using text2speech or subtitles, used AI to at least make his animation sound similar to the characters. He still put in effort, it was a good animation, but he was bullied by the original voice actor for the horrible practice of .... being too broke to afford an actual voice actor.

AI does not have to be so black and white. I get the sentiment around hating AI, hell I vehemently hate corporations trying to stuff ai in everything, but not all usage must be considered bad.
