  • That's what I'm currently doing, my goal is to eliminate needing to carry the router around entirely.

Configure fedora to function as a VPN hotspot

I am currently using this travel router as a way for me to connect numerous devices (Android TV, Work Laptop, etc.) back to my home network so I can access my home server running Jellyfin/NAS/etc. while traveling.

I am also able to directly connect to my home VPN from my fedora Linux laptop. It occurred to me that it should be possible to share this connection to my other devices & remove the need to carry around the extra router (I'm all about minimalism when traveling!). I wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction on how I would go about configuring this.

    Thank you so much!

  • It is unclear to me what the license of OpenCloud is. Are they open source? They reference a "trial license" on their site.

  • I found someone who, just yesterday, submitted a device support request for my exact model! The request is here, I'll watch it for a bit.

  • They are from aliexpress, perhaps they are still the same thing?

  • I'm using the ZHA connector, these are Tuya bulbs, I've had good success with other Tuya products but alas. ~ Where would I requested support?

  • I'm using ZHA as the smart hub

RGB+C+W light showing up as only C+W bulb

I have 4 RGB+C+W zigbee bulbs like this one:

However after adding it to home assistant, they only show up as c+w bulbs:

What am I doing wrong? How can I get it to detect it as RGB+C+W?

  • I tried installing the Fedora display link driver from here: https://github.com/displaylink-rpm/displaylink-rpm

It didn't work out of the box, I need to fiddle with it some more.

But, does M3 macbooks support egpus? My understanding was they don't.

  • My goal is to drive all of this off single cord.

Docking station that supports 3 monitors for MacOS & Linux

Hey, I have two laptops & I'd like to get a triple monitor docking station that supports both of them, they are:

    MacBook Pro - M3 Max - MacOS Lenovo X1 Carbon - 6th generation - Fedora 41

I got this dock: https://a.co/d/1vaXV11 and have been able to get it working with the MacBook, but my attempts to get it working with the X1 Carbon have been unsuccessful.

I can still return the dock if there are other suggestions? Thanks in advance

  • Thank you!

I guess the second part of my question is I want to confirm that WLED says "per LED" they really mean "per IC".

WLED power limit for FCOB strip

Pardon a WLED question in the Home Assistant community, but I was unable to find a WLED community in the fediverse.

Regardless, I have this 720 LED/meter FCOB strip, which is 24v strip & I'm trying to figure out what to configure the "LED voltage (Max. current for a single LED):"

Since it's a 20IC per meter & they claim 21watts per meter that comes out to ~1w per IC. But I'm unsure how that converts to mA like WLED is asking for.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🤠

    Feature request: Merged chats!

There are some people I talk to on multiple platforms & it would be incredibly useful if I could see all of these conversations in one place.

I understand this isn't trivial but this is how I would expect it to function:

    • New UI element that the send button includes a drop down to select which platform you want to message this person on.
    • Default response is configurable per conversation and can be set to "respond on their most recent platform"
    • If you reply in a thread, it always uses the platform that thread is from

I understand this is a non trivial amount of work to implement but it would be so incredibly handy! Thanks for reading.

  • What sort of details would I be trading off?

  • What are your thoughts on something like this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/335508029876

Edit: in case the eBay link dies, it's a link to a SAMSUNG 75 inch Class QLED 4K Q70C Series Quantum HDR, Dual LED Object Tracking Sound Lite, Q-Symphony Motion Xcelerator Turbo Gaming Hub Smart TV with Alexa Built-in QN75Q70C 2023 for ~$930

  • Correct $1000 USD, thanks for clarifying!

  • I think this solution makes the most sense for my situation right now. I know it's subjective, but do you have recommendations for 2 gigabit Internet?

Do I need open unifi or is a simple router okay for my setup?

I'm moving into a new apt and the ISP is trying to rent a router at $20/mo, so I'd like to get my own router.

I'm considering setting up opnsense for the router & TP link Omega for the AP & Switch.

But this feels a bit overkill for an apt. Should I just get a all in one router instead? What are the pros and cons?

What platform do you prefer for talking to others also on beeper?

Firstly ~ I'm a huge fan of beeper! Can't wait for a paid tier to come out so I can support it. I recently got my partner on to beeper as well & I was wondering what platform do y'all prefer for messaging with other people also on beeper?

At the moment we're using WhatsApp via beeper (we were using WhatsApp before) ~ I'm considering moving to matrix on beeper, but it seems much less feature complete (Can't show her profile picture on it since rooms can only have one photo for everyone, typing indicator doesn't function, etc.) I'd like to move away from Meta-owned WhatsApp. What do you suggest?

  • This is what I figured, I'll reach out to my credit card company and see where this goes. 😥

How to handle a miss-communicated repair?

I broke the screen on my pixel 7 pro, I took it to get repaired by a local shop & we discussed that I wanted an original part. They interpreted this as I want a “new” part, but not an original one. They've now done the repair with an aftermarket screen, which is much lower quality than an OEM part.

I've asked them to make this right, but they say they've done what they said they'd do. I feel ripped off, but I also don't want to be unfair to the work that they've done, installing the part and all. I'm just looking for guidance on how to handle this situation? Has anyone been here before?

Screen randomly goes black & then requires login on Fedora.

I have not been able to notice a pattern as to why/when this happens. But after the black screen for a few seconds, it comes back to the login page.

I've updated the bios to the newest version with no success, would love some assistance at least debugging this. This is my relevant system information:

Does anyone have experience with Volta Chargers? (or Magnetic chargers generally?)

I'm in the process of replacing my entire cable line up to be entirely USB-C & I am interested in perhaps getting something like volta spark cables. Has anyone tried these before?
