  • Have you considered an electric shaver? It doesn't cut as close, but by the same token, it also doesn't scrape across the skin. You'll avoid catching the tops of any spots that you may have, and until your skin becomes happier with wet shaving, it'll keep the whiskers away.

  • Before you post your request, have a look here:

    https://www.sharetribe.com/

It's a platform for setting up your own custom marketplace, which is exactly what you're describing. It's a no-code solution and pretty customisable.

At the best, it might give you an immediate solution to your needs. At worst, it'll give you a starting point to explain to your dev what you want. Win/win.

  • As a developer, it looks clear enough to me, but I'd suggest two changes.

"Status updates" - You don't say who you want to be able to view the status of a posting.

"Bonus if you can connect it to my Wave account..." - probably better to phrase it "Ideally it would connect to my Wave account...". You're listing requirements, after all.

Also, you might need to consider adding an admin page where you can manage accounts, see all jobs listed, etc. although the rest of the post is high-level, so maybe it's something to bring up in the discussions.

Finally, I'm sure you realised this already, but the last lines of the AI response are for you, and not part of the text itself.

  • A return of the concept of "unamerican" art and activities, to support the destruction and suppression of said things.

I'd normally say book burnings first, but those have been an on-off thing in some parts of the states since the 50s.

So I'll go with "officially endorsed" book burnings. Not officially organised, mind, but an actual expression of support shown.

  • Huge thanks for this!

I feel so stupid - I'm a software engineer, so of course I'd need to escape them! I guess I need to brush up on my markdown.

Speaking of marking things down, looks like there aren't too many fans of Garfunkel and Oates from the number of downvotes I've received...

Edit: looks like I can't use hash symbols to show that they're lyrics - Lemmy thinks I want them to be headers...

Edit2: fixed the hash sign problem thanks to parlordrolap below.

  • That's not the definition of a game, though.

Loads of games need co-ordinated access to specific resources, from chess to the 2001 release of Halo. Doesn't mean they're not games.

The line between games and sports is entirely arbitrary, and changes from person to person.

  • The imaginary hypothetical outcome is the version of you that would have happened without beatings. You stated that you felt corporal punishment had a positive impact on many aspects of your personality. What are you comparing it to? A hypothetical alternative version of you that hadn't been beaten.

    Bad faith markers:

    • No previous post or comment history.
    • First post is on a contentious topic.
    • Sentiment of the post is unusual - "I don't support it, but I was abused for an unusually long time and I think it was good for me".
    • Call to action is particularly baity - "is it just a coping mechanism".

  • First of all, I want to make clear that I strongly suspect that this is not a genuine question, and has been posted on bad faith.

But to answer the question, the truth is that it's impossible to know. You're comparing a known outcome to an imaginary hypothetical one.

The real question to ask is, even if it was the case, do the ends justify the means?

Is it ever ok for an adult to physically attack a child in their care over, let's face it, trivial matters?

  • I'd group Audi drivers and BMW drivers into the same class of obvious driving.

Just yesterday I saw an Audi swoop from the slow lane straight into the fast last between two tightly-spaced cars in the middle lane. Without indicating.

From a technical point of view, I'll admit it was an impressively small gap to sneak through, but it probably gave the second car in the middle lane a heart attack.

  • The big difference between the US and China is that China is often close to the bottom of the supply chain.

America doesn't have the infrastructure already in place to supply the raw materials and basic essentials to manufacturers.

Until this is the case (and I'm phrasing it optimistically but the reality is it never can be the case), all manufacturers have to pay extra just to have access to the things they need to produce their goods.

This cost is passed on to the consumer.

Like another commenter pointed out, there just isn't a domestic supplier of many products. Crucial rare earth metals and various other minerals just aren't available. Heck, to my knowledge, there isn't even a domestic manufacturer of light bulbs anymore.

Without putting anything in place before implementing these tariffs, he's guaranteed that prices will go up on almost everything.

  • I agree with this entirely. I personally use AI to help me do things that I don't have the time to do "the old fashioned way".

I can draw, paint, sing, sculpt, etc, and I enjoy doing all these things very much. But I don't have time any more - I have a full-time job, two kids taking up most of my time, and Long COVID means I'm asleep for almost all of what would be left over.

I've used AI to help me bring 2d art, music and 3d models into this world that would otherwise be trapped in my head.

  • Took me a while to pick it out of the image!

Here's the deets in case it helps anyone else:

    • 4 cans normally £4.35
    • 3 cans yellow-stickered to £4.59

FWIW, way back when, I spotted a similar thing in my local Sainsbury's. A pack of 4 apples cost more than buying four loose apples. I tweeted about it jokingly on a Friday, and to their credit they replied, and when I went in on Monday, the price had been adjusted.

  • You Should Know @lemmy.world

YSK how to talk about the PM of the UK.

I'm seeing a lot of international messages getting this wrong, so this is how you refer to the Prime Minister of the UK.

First, we normally refer to the PM just by name, like anyone else. So, "Keir Starmer" or "Mr Starmer".

"Prime Minister" is not used as a title like "President" is. He's not "Prime Minister Starmer". He's just "the Prime Minister" or "the Prime Minister, Keir Starmer".

Unusually, this new PM is also a knight. Of course, this has its own rules.

If you want to use this title, it's not quite as simple as replacing "Mr" with "Sir'. The first name is more important than the surname here. He's not "Sir Starmer". He's "Sir Keir Starmer" or "Sir Keir".

    Hope it helps!
