  • Thank you for such a great response and answer, although I feel I've sold my knowledge of leftist ideas a bit short since you have given me a introduction into all of it as well as your answer. But you did answer my question well so a follow up question, given that people could take advantage of the government in some sense, is it not a concern that new class styled system could take hold, one centered on favors from the central government.

Another question which is probably less boring than my last couple, is do Marxist want to see eventual end of all oppressive forces, not just class based. To that extent I would think having a central government would be incompatible since it would allow for some one to take advantage of their position.

Separately, I would think most people can solve their problems if given the means to do so, or the access to those with knowledge - is further centralization really the solution?

I'll take a skeptical look at your reading list. But you've given me some incredible insight into the ideas of Marxists, so thank you for that!

  • Seeing around this thread you clearly know your stuff. So it feels appropriate to reply to you with questions I have,

Somewhere in this thread one you thing you mentioned was the state/administration would have its exploitative elements removed and would just become an administrative and directive organization, slowly withering away. To me this feels contradictory, the same process that allow an organization to direct resources are surely the same process that allow an organization to exploit people?

I've probably failed to word that correctly, so to illustrate what I mean, the guy who control who gets what, can just say "do what I want or I'll deny you blah", now what the administrator wants can of course be influenced by money, like today's politicians, but I'm sure there are plenty of other things people want and could seek to gain - or even just the joy of controlling people.

I suppose you can have checks, but that feels like a band aid if you accept what I said early, the institution in power is inherently able to exploit people - all checks have done is make it more difficult.

To me this is not a consequence of the state/administration being exploitative, rather a consequence of the state having authority to control resource flow at all.

I always camped in the areas of anarchist leftism, but I'm interested to see what you think and I'm not well read enough to comment properly so I imagine there's a lot of mistakes in this reply so sorry in advance

I have more questions, but this is quite long already so I'll leave it here

  • Take the rate of change by time of that curve and plot it, you'll see a massive spike during today, And a line that bounces around zero for the rest of timeframe.

  • Ok that is a great link actually, so the agenda against trans people continues obviously, Although noticably the rate of change in the year to year trans bills has decreased significantly, jumping from 75 to 185 from 2022 to 2023 but staying at about 185 for 2024. That is probably what gave me the hunch, I was expecting this year to be twice as bad as last year and in fact it's only slightly worse.

That would indicate a loss in momentum for the transphobic policy line, although This could just be a point of inflection like in 2022 and that will see another surge in 2025.

But yeah overall that lines up with what I thought was going on, although I was more optimistic than the data shows, thinking that transphobic policy had gone down this year.

  • I've been slowly growing a smallish server with content, I find growing the numbers to be almost more fun than actually consuming the content I have gained possession of.

  • I don't have a favorite system font, am I meant to? I did try to play with fonts at one point but the process of finding fonts and then figuring out how to install them was a bit much.

  • Immich is what got me into self hosting, an incredible piece of software (is that the right term?), and I can't wait to see where it goes into the future.

  • I started using Organic Maps recently, it's incredible that so much of Google Maps can be done offline, and the maps are sooooo pretty. It was certainly something I didn't expect to find and was a pleasant surprise.

    Peertube integration with Lemmy

    Hi,

I want to take a little slice of the time I spend watching videos on Youtube and give that slice over to Peertube. I don't mean all of it, given I watch far too much Youtube, but a slither which I hope to grow as Peertube hopefully matures.

As such I don't want to have to make a Peertube account, I want to get Peertube videos straight into my Lemmy feed. To an extent I've already done this, but the videos are just links to the Peertube instance and aren't embedded.

And the other issue is that the comments section is, well, a mess. Lemmy hardly syncs the comments and only does so for comments from other Lemmy instances and the videos Peertube instance.

The first issue feels relatively solvable, Peertube embeds. The second feels like something to do with how activity pub works and as such I have no idea.

    Libre Games

I've been discovering that despite what I originally thought - there exists a small collection of high quality games which are not only free but also developed openly. I'll list the ones I have found to date, I wouldn't mind seeing any recommendations!

    • Mindustry - Essentially a fully complete indie game. You can buy it on steam to gain access to a few other features but nothing game changing.
    • Super Tux Kart - Literally Mario Kart.
    • Super Tux - Literally Mario
    • Luanti formerly Minetest. - A voxel game engine, you can add hundreds of mods to make the game into what you want, including into just straight up Minecraft.
    • Veloren - An open MMO, still very much in alpha development
    • Thrive - Spore on steroids, still in development although I've spent a good 20 hours having a lot of fun with where it's at, at the moment - with the bacteria stage mostly complete and the multicellular stage taking shape.
    • Unciv - just civilization.

  • I bit right into this onion. This satire keeps getting better

  • I don't even know why I like this so much

  • Have you tried actually changing the way you talk, like instead of a high pitch version of your masc voice, why not like alter it so you speak snappier or more rounded, so you sound different I found that helps a lot for some reason

  • You forgot the two paragraphs of ramble about what a fall is

  • Your wheelie bin will make good ammunition if we go for part 2

  • Too short

  • poggers

  • Not enough JPEG

  • My parents having issues with Facebook has lead to me interfering in their browser setup. No more ads, containerization for Facebook etc. I hope that I will probably have less issues with purchases that didn't need to made.

  • Italy is the funniest state ever conceived, up above Russia. The war in Ukraine is just Putin trying to take the number one spot.

  • This has ruined my week - the mere thought that people actually brought this drives me insane.
