Vote on the instance for the community (closes in 3 days)
As lemm.ee is shutting down at the end of the month, the community needs to find a new home instance.
The poll will be done via voting, you can vote for as many options as you want, but voting with multiple accounts will lead to all of your votes being discarded. Downvotes will be ignored.
Regardless of the choice, the live thread bot will be available.
The options to vote for are these:
- [email protected] or alternatively [email protected]
Pros:- Active and responsive admin
- Instance dedicated to football
- The instance is more or less already fully funded by paying users according to the owner.
Cons:
- Single point of failure in instance owner
- Instance name is soccer for the first option
- [email protected]
Pros:- Similar instance to lemm.ee
- Blaze and @[email protected] have volunteered as new moderators.
Cons
- More of the same, similar risk as lemm.ee

Future of this community, as lemm.ee will shut down at the end of June
Announcement of the shutdown: https://lemm.ee/post/65824884
I didn't started this community, just took it over when Civ VII was announced, I saw the original mod stopped using lemmy.
There weren't much conversations here since, mostly just reposts of news and reviews. But since Civ VII was released the amount of articles diminished, so I don't expect a lot of content to be posted here in the near future.
What should happen to this community?
- I moved to to lemmy.zip, if there is some interest I can recreate this community over there.
- There are several other Civ communities on the lemmyverse, I can add a note/post to redirect people there. And I can continue posting the occasional news to those communities.
Other civ communities:
- [email protected] - mod inactive. Maybe they can make me a mod there
- [email protected] - former reddit archive, now mostly inactive
- [email protected] - no mod
I can see on lemmy.ca they frequently appoint mods from other instances here: !communi

New community on lemmy.zip
As lemm.ee will shut down I created a replacement on lemmy.zip: [email protected]
Please subscribe, see you over there!

Welcome to the new home of the IDM community
Unfortunately lemm.ee will shut down soon, so this will be our new home.

Would you all be okay to give the Piedfed migration feature a try? If you prefer a Lemmy instances, which ones would they be?
Presentation of the feature: https://piefed.social/post/667045
Example of successful migration: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/45876492
Our next step would be to give this feature a try. What would basically happen is that
- we would lock our community to prevent integrity issue during the migration
- https://piefed.social/c/[email protected] would become https://piefed.social/c/fedigrow , with all the existing posts and comments
- you all would subscribe to the new [email protected] , and then continue as usual
Should the migration not work, we would still be able to use the current community, and then manually migrate elsewhere.
The one caveat is that from Lemmy instances, the community doesn’t have show old posts (see https://lemm.ee/c/[email protected]), but if you were restarting a community from scratch you wouldn’t have access to your old posts anyway.
Other federated instances like feddit.online would also see the posts and comments on the new community: https:/

Vote for where this community should move to.
Most of you are probably aware that lemm.ee will be shutting down by the end of this month. This means that we need to find a new home for our community. Here's a list of instances I'm considering. Please upvote the one(s) you would like.
I want to make the move soon so I'll let this poll run for a day.
Lemmy.zip
- Has a very similar defederation policy to lemm.ee
- IP blocks UK accounts. Not an issue for most people, but might limit potential mods who want to mod from a local account
Piefed.social
- Piefed has really strong community moving capabilities, which means that if this instance goes down, or its rules become restrictive, then we can easily move to a different piefed instance with limited issues.
- Has some cool features. Flairs are something I've wanted for a long time and better moderation tools standout.
- Newer software, not as heavily tested but very active. There seems to be some issues with synchronizing subscriber

With Lemm.ee shutting, the current proposal is to move Monitors to Piefed (which allows community migration of sorts).
Piefed has a community migration feature, albeit the history is not viewable on Lemmy, just on Piefed.
Still seems like the most viable solution.
Please let me know if you have any feedback.

Where would you like this community to go?
This is a poll that will stay open for at least 48 hours to see where people would like this community to move.

The objective of this post is to address any questions or issues before we move forward. We are probably going to leave it open for 48 hours, and then reassess based on the community feedback.

Discussion on where to migrate the community.
As some of you already have seen the lemm.ee admins have announced that the instance is shutting down at the end of the month.
The question for us is where should we migrate next.
Returning to [email protected] is always an option, alternatively we could move to either another established and stable lemmy instance or migrate to a piefed instance.
Piefed instances federate with lemmy instances as normal, and it allows for adding flairs to community posts and users, something not yet implemented on Lemmy. I haven't tried Piefed myself yet so I would need to dig more into it if it is a popular option.
Ultimately the choice for our next destination is up to you guys!

Time to make a new home for this community, since lemm.ee is shutting down

I don't see a thread in this community yet, so I thought I'd make a post. Where should this community be moved to?

We are discussing the options for migrating this community, we'll keep you posted
Mods are discussing at the moment, we’ll create a poll in the coming days.
We still have some time as lemm.ee will only shutdown at the end of the month.
The Piefed community migration feature looks promising, but we have to troubleshoot a bit with @[email protected] to see how it can work.

The lemm.ee instance that this community is hosted on will go down at the end of June 2025
https://lemm.ee/post/65824884 for details.
Moderators interested in migrating to a new community on another instance might want to consider selecting an instance and doing so sooner rather than later so that users here have time to see a migration post here and subscribe to the new community.

The sole moderator here, @[email protected], last commented/posted a month ago. I've no idea how closely he's monitoring the situation, but it's possible that if he doesn't log in for the next three weeks, he might not notice what's going on until after the instance has gone down.
If that happens, then he won't have a great way to point to any new community. Maybe monitor [email protected] or [email protected], and he could post an announcement there?
