France ready to defend gulf countries and Jordan

Paris, March 2 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot affirmed that France is ready to defend Gulf countries and Jordan attacked by Iran in response to US and Israeli aggression.

These nations have military bases in the Gulf and are allies of Washington.

Barrot stated that Paris’s position is based on agreements with its partners and the principle of collective defense.

“Friendly countries have been deliberately targeted by the Revolutionary Guard and subjected to a war they did not choose,” he said in a statement mentioning Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar.

The Foreign Minister expressed solidarity and reiterated France’s readiness to participate in their defense.

Iran emphasizes its right to self-defense following the attack two days ago by the United States and Israel, in which its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, dozens of high-ranking military officers and officials, and hundreds of civilians were killed.

Barrot also noted that the priority is protecting French citizens, of whom there are approximately 400,000 in the region, and that so far no casualties have been reported among them.
