After Trump’s awkward White House comments, the US women’s ice hockey champions are getting a far bigger celebration

After Donald Trump moaned about inviting female Olympians and Paralympians to the White House, Flava Flav has stepped up to host a weekend-long celebration, with the support of several prominent brands.
If the USA Women’s Hockey team wants a real celebration and invite ,,, I’ll host them in Las Vegas. Do some nice dinners and shows and good times. I’m sure I can get a hotel and airline to help me out here and celebrate these women for real for real. pic.twitter.com/NhtRJ8UxKE

On February 19, 2026, the US women’s ice hockey team beat Canada 2-1 at the Winter Olympics in Milan. However, the victory was quickly overshadowed by Donald Trump’s comments.
He said to the men’s team that he would have to bring the women’s team to the White House, and if he didn’t:
You do know that. I do believe I probably would be impeached.
In response, several of the men’s team laughed. The video quickly went viral.
Hilary Knight, captain of the Women’s team, called Trump’s comments “distasteful”.
According to the Guardian:
Twenty members of the men’s team, coming off their first Olympic gold since 1980, visited the White House on Tuesday and attended the State of the Union later that night. The women’s team, who defeated Canada to win their third gold medal since women’s hockey was added to the Games in 1998, declined an invitation, citing “timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments”.
Trump said during his speech that the women’s team would visit the Oval Office “soon”, but USA Hockey has not confirmed any plans.
However, American rapper Flava Flav posted a TikTok video inviting the female athletes to Las Vegas to celebrate.
@flavorflav FLAVOR FLAV ::: Cuz this wasn’t big enough,,, I wanna invite ALL the female Olympic and Paralympic medalists from the United States out to Vegas and we got you covered,, we gonna do some nice dinners, throw a big party and a parade and a concert,, and go to some concerts and shows. Thankx to all the companies and brands and musicians and entertainers who reached out. We gonna celebrate and show em SHE GOT GAME,!!@The GIST @Yahoo Sports @Team USA ♬ original sound – Flavor Flav
Within a couple of hours of Flava Flav posting the video, several brands responded, wanting to help. These included Alaska Air, Resorts World Las Vegas and Ramsays Kitchen.
Within two (2) hours of Flava Flav posting about wanting to throw a celebration for the US Women’s Hockey team after that dumb line about “having to invite them”, air travel, hotels, spa services and tickets to shows were covered.

I bet the men’s team are reeling. The women get to party for a weekend, whilst they get stuck listening to a boring speech.
the concept of the women’s team getting to go party in vegas with flavor flav while the men attend a boring speech that could potentially damage their careers is very pleasing to me https://t.co/nmK2jz37X3

Trump — problematic men, everywhere
But we could never have expected someone with Trump’s history and thousands of mentions in the Epstein files to show anything short of contempt for women succeeding at literally anything.
Flavor Flav is single-handedly doing more to support women’s sports than the entire Trump administration. https://t.co/aIVrnmLr7L

In comments since the landmark win, Hilary Knight said:
I think this is a really good learning point to focus on how we talk about women, not only in sport but in industry.
Women aren’t less than. Our achievements shouldn’t be overshadowed by anything else other than how great they are.
Obviously, the Canary cannot ignore Flava Flav’s problematic past. His previous allegations of domestic abuse and domestic battery do not go unnoticed.
And it really says something about the state of the world when one problematic man has to step in when another problematic man becomes a little too problematic.
But no matter how or where, the US women’s athletes deserve to celebrate their victories even more so than the men, because the men have not had to fight for their basic rights just to get to where they are.
