Question concerning cave art, the self and religion

I have visted the Chauvet Cave II twice, and the documentation mentioned that the paintings were all exclusively of animals; not plants, not humans nor religious motives. I have been looking at other cave art, and it seems that this focus on animal motives is abundant (perhaps not surprising as animals were a key food source). What are the oldest prehistoric art examples that depict humans and / or religion? Is the absence of religious motives an indication that early humans were un-religious?
