Welcome to c/WouldYouRather, where we present you with the toughest, most ridiculous choices you never knew you had to make! Would you rather have a third arm that's only useful for picking your nose, or be able to talk to animals but only if they're wearing hats? Yeah, it's that kind of vibe. Come for the absurdity, stay because you've clearly got nothing better to do with your life.
Rules:
would you rather be tortured for an hour and but have your memory of that hour wiped later, or be tortured for a minute but have lucidity and good memory of it later?
fucked up question, I know - but ultimately it's a question about suffering and experience of personhood - did "you" really experience the torture for an hour if you don't remember it later?
What about the hour where you were awake and present, before the memory is wiped? How much does that suffering matter? Does the fact that after the torture you won't remember override the suffering you will experience in the present during the torture, relative to suffering you will remember the rest of your life?
(Meta) Proposition to exclude twitter links and screenshots.
Given the limited number of links shared in this community, I propose a rule to discourage the inclusion of Twitter links and the use of Twitter screenshots.
While I understand the desire to integrate platforms like Reddit and Twitter, I believe it's important to maintain a focused and independent discourse within this community.
I have long desired to minimize the integration of external platforms like Reddit and Twitter within this community. However, I've noticed an increasing trend of their exclusion, prompting me to formally propose this guideline here too.
I would appreciate everyone's input on this proposed rule. I wouldn't add a rule unless the community is largely interested in it.
WYR:
do something great for all of humanity but be remembered as one of the worst people who ever lived, or do nothing with any lasting impact in your lifetime and be remembered as a hero to all people?
WYR: have an obsessive insane person love you or hate you?
You do not love this person btw
WYR: Have an internet without ads or an internet without AI.
Adblockers are not allowed for this hypothetical.
WYR: Fly low or jump high
You can fly at a height of up to 6ft/2m above the ground. You can propel yourself in any direction midair, expending energy at the same rate as the corresponding running speed, but without straining any muscles (so you will be tired but not sore). You will be fully subjected to drag and will be based on air speed, not ground speed. That means you could coast along all day at 20mph/30kmh in a strong tailwind, or get thrown backwards by a strong headwind.
OR
You can jump up to 30ft/9m high. You will also be able to comfortably land from that height. Jumping higher will require more work from your legs, and the highest jumps will leave your legs immediately quite sore. You will have control over how high you jump. You're not gonna be immobilized, but you are gonna feel it for the rest of the day. This only benefits your vertical, your horizontal will only be affected by increased air time to travel forward at the same speed as before (you'll be moving longer, not faster).
WYR: Get 3m dollars or speak every language.
No, coding language aren't included. Sign languages are. Cash is tax free
WYR: Sweat through your shirt every time you sneeze or have your eyes closed for every photo you take.
This would be for the next 2 years only.
WYR: ear fruit grown on a bulbasaur or drink water from a squirtle.
Added info: Both offer it to you willingly and happily. Is bulbasaur fruit vegan? Squirtle obviously used water gun which shoots outta its mouth.
WYR: Have a giant pet squid that hugs you too tightly or have gossiping pet dolphins
Gossip is about other sea creatures only
WYR: get your favorite character as a roommate or become friends with your favorite person?
Nothing else about your life changes. Real world, but either with this fictional character as a roommate or your favorite real person somehow becoming your friend.
Obviously ignoring partners, best friends, family and such here when defining this favorite person. Could be someone whose work you respect a lot, an important parasocial relationship in your life, just someone you really like, or anything similar.
Bonus round: the person you hate the most as your roommate or the character you hate the most as your enemy?
