Let’s Read Tomb of Horrors, the Deep Dive Nobody Asked For, p.1
I’ve spent a few months analyzing the Tomb in order to give my players the best experience. I wanted to really make sure I understood the dungeon so that we wouldn’t run into any dungeon breaking mistakes in rulings. I’m ready to present my findings here, both to benefit others and to get feedback in case I’m overlooking something myself. Particularly with the 1e AD&D rules which I’m not familiar with.
Format
“Eight groups of fifteen pregenerated characters were decimated in the Tomb at the first Origins convention, which took place from July 25 through 27, 1975, in Baltimore, Maryland. Players had only two hours to get as far as they could in the dungeon…” (Witwer 2018)
ToH was designed for tournament play with competing groups being scored. We can see throughout how that format informed the design of the dungeon. Many elements are placed simply to waste time at the table: probing for the entrance, puzzles with no clues, elaborately hidden secret doors. The linearity also speak
@nostupidquestions Roleplaying aside, is there a point in Gnomes and Spell Focus (Illusion) in core DnD 3.5? There seems to be a dearth of relevant useful illusion spells.

Sorry. I don't know if it's proper here since I can't read the rules since my IP or country seems to be blocked. I've only heard Whisper Gnomes being cheesy but that's not core and I don't think what makes him work are part of core or at least the whole SRD either.
I Need Help for My Partner
I understand there is an LFG community, but it is dead. If this is not allowed feel free to remove it
My partner finally found a decent group to play DnD online with, but it turns out not all of them are that decent. There is an individual with right leaning views that they are not comfortable playing with. They are absolutely devastated, as they have been wanting to play for years
I'm not asking for a game, or group, but hopefully a community of like-minded individuals for them to be a part of. I don't know the first thing about it, so I come here in desperation to try to cheer my partner up
Edit:
They will be turning 30 this year. They are non-binary, and looking for a safe space from any right-wing politics. They use they/them pronouns and needs somewhere that this will be respected
They have a character and back story if that helps
We are in the Central Time Zone in the U.S.

Occultist v1.0.4 - Revamped Warlock (DnD5e and DnD2024 compatible)
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/26364695
This is the finished version of my Occultist class, a revamped Warlock that's meant to refine and streamline the OG class.
The Warlock is my favourite class in the game, but its reliance on short rests to recharge spell slots and the pitiful amount of invocations known turn DnD’s most customizable class into a boring slog of “I cast Eldritch Blast” and “As my first invocations, I take Agonizing Blast and Devil’s Sight. Again”.
By adding the Patron’s expanded spell list (which goes up to 9th level) automatically to their spells known, gaining more invocations (10, compared to the OG Warlock’s 8) and rebalancing the invocations (including adding higher level Pact-exclusive invocations up to 14th level), the INT-based Occultist allows for much greater build variety, while retaining what made the original class so loved by many. The 1.0 update includes four Pact Boons (Blade, Chain, Talisman, Tome), four subclasses (Arch
Black Feather Rogue
Free high-quality content for 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons and above.
Hello lovely people! We are proud to announce the release of a new subclass for rogues: the Black Feather Rogue.
Drawing upon the forces of natural magic, the Black Feather blends roguish cunning with druidic transformation to yield a formidable spy and skirmisher. In their raven form they can dodge attacks, find a safe perch, or reposition to make a sneak attack.
Feedback, opinions, and suggestions are always welcome.
Elven Honor Duel
Question for the floor:
I've got an idea for a fomorian to insult one of my party members' (a sun elf) house honor and demand a duel in the Feywild.
What are some ways to make it feel more authentic in the setting? I don't want to just outright copy human customs if I can help it.
What happens to the dead if they die after they die?
So in my campaign a character died in a way where the body is entirely destroyed, but the players wanted to revive them anyway. The only spell that they can possibly access can fix this for them is true resurrection which is way out of range for them. The backup plan was to go find their soul and figure out a new plan from there. I'm fine with that with my understanding of what happens when you die in Forgotten Realms lore (as follows)
Step 1. You die.
Step 2. You go to the fugue plane and get judged by Kelemvor.
Step 3. Your soul is sent to whoever has a claim to it in cases of warlockery, religious beliefs or other deals.
Step 3a. In case the above doesn't apply your soul gets sent to it's alignments plane.
Step 4. You either become a native being of the plane (lesser devil, demon, planetar, etc) or are a spirit that resembles your original body.
This character was chaotic good, meaning they're in Arborea/Olympus. My players are on a crash course to getting into that plan

Mr. Mertle, the eccentric recluse in town, needs a band of brave adventurers to help him deal with a problem. Goblins have taken up residence around the crumbling remains of an ancient fighting pit behind his home, and their presence is becoming increasingly disruptive. But what seems like a simple pest control job quickly turns into something far more dangerous - and more bizarre.
As the adventurers arrive, they discover the goblins are not what they seem. Instead of mindless marauders, these goblins are on a quest of their own: to retrieve a cherished artifact that lies hidden somewhere in Mr. Mertle's walled-off gardens without falling victim to the mysterious and dangerous creature that lives there.
Wish story
Tonight was my first ever Wish spell in a DnD campaign! My character could have used it to stop a war, kill mindflayers or anything… but instead I went for something smaller and way more personal: she wished for her friend who died to be resurrected. It was such a powerful moment, AND I got to giv...
Fun thread on Mastodon, who's got a wish story themselves?
Anyone running / playing in a Wastes of Chaos campaign
I have always liked Dark Sun, and Wastes of Chaos seems like a pretty good fit for that, especially since the group I was thinking of running it for is used to D&D 5e now. Any experiences with it out there?
Officially have been a DM for 10yrs - AMA
It’s kinda crazy for me to think about. Story time! Otherwise just ask me anything :)
Around 11 years ago, I sat in the lounge that the Video Game Club occupies once a month on college campus. I looked over and saw a group of gamers go into one of the meeting rooms attached to the lounge - but instead of laptops or gaming consoles, they had books and dice and paper. I scoffed and thought they were too nerdy and cringey - I then went back to munching Doritos, chugging MtDew, and playing Borderlands/Skyrim/Pokemon for the next 12 hours lol.
Thankfully I was saved from my misguided views. A member of the VGC invited me to try out DnD, his group had an open spot. I was hesitant, but I craved more creativity in games that just couldn’t be supplied. So I decided to try it out.
Ended up not having a great time. One player was entirely checked out for 80% of the time and was a scumbag during the 20% he was engaged. The DM either was very new, or just had some very questionable calls. Ther
UA - Eberron Updates
Looking for a one-shot for a large group, level 5 would be nice.
I have a large group (7 players) that I play with on the regular. My saint of a DM though needs a break to which I am happy to oblige with a one-shot or two. I'm looking for a one-shot that would be fun for them at level 5+. We're all experienced players with decent to great table etiquette so the table size only concerns me as far as difficulty is concerned. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
What counts as an attack for the purposes of the invisibility spell?
I'm trying to figure out a ruling for something one of my players wants to do. They're invisible, but they took a couple of seemingly non-attack actions that my gut says should break inviz.
Specifically, they dumped out a flask of oil, and then used a tinderbox to light it on fire. Using a tinderbox isn't an attack, nor is emptying a flask, although they are actions , and the result of lighting something on fire both seems like an attack and something that would dispell inviz.
I know that as DM I can rule it however I want, but I'm fairly inexperienced and I don't wanna go nerfing one of my players tools just because it feels yucky to me personally without understanding the implications.
Is this an attack or is there another justification for breaking inviz that is there some RAW clause I didn't see? Or should this be allowed?
