On a ~10 hour road trip coming back from Vacation we stopped for gas and to take a leak when I saw this fella.
It's only 2 or 3 hours from where I live but I've never seen one before! I believe it is this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_leopard_moth
I guess this old glove isn't mine anymore.

Glad I noticed the new residents before trying to put it on. Any guesses as to the species? Maybe some type of mud dauber? I guess I'll just leave it alone and see if they emerge in the spring.

I was grilling some steak on my deck when I noticed this camouflaged lacewing larva. Check out this site for better photos and cool facts about it: http://jimmccormac.blogspot.com/2014/10/a-murderous-mobile-lichen.html?m=1

Hurdles are great because it's like the NASCAR of track & field.
Here's a damp wasp I found on my grill cover today.

Spotted the ridiculous Cybertruck driving down my road yesterday. Lots of embarrassing pickups out there, but that one takes the cake.
Anyway, this handsome robber fly let me take its photo this afternoon.

I think the transmission in my 2007 Mazda3 is toast. It had been shifting badly and the AT indicator light turned on the last couple of times I drove it, so decided to try and scan it for error codes. Nothing came up so I thought I would take it around the block. Didn't even make it up the hill before the magic smoke escaped. Fortunately, I was able to roll back home.
Anyway, here's a shot of a pill bug on some stringy stonecrop.

Xylocopa virginica resting on a fence post
This time of year, there's a zillion of these loudly and clumsily zooming around right outside my backdoor. They're very curious about everything that moves; they'll just like stare you down, hovering a foot in front of your face. Too cute!! They are also kinda eating the landlords mudroom... but so slowly that I'm pretty sure it hardly matters? You just can't be mad at these little fuzzballs! Worth it for the pollination anyway.
Butterfly among the leaves
Now that winter is starting up where I am, I wanna show my favorite image I took over the summer. I caught a butterfly on some leaves, and was able to get suprisingly close for this picture! You can even see the little hairs that transition from the wings to the body. I never really think of a butterfly as having any sort of fluff, but I suppose they do...at least a little!

The last bit of sun
I spotted this bumblebee on my garage on Sunday, resting and trying to get some warmth in the sun. I suppose I should check on the Wikipedia to find out how they get through the winter.
