UPDATE on my purchases for a 7 footer
Not sure how Reddit prefers updates, but here we are.... Probably not wanted, but more so wanted to say thanks to r/Ultralight
Thank you all dearly for the comments, the DMs, and the help… What in the world! You people are insane. I couldn’t appreciate it more. TRULY! I owe you my life... but in the meantime.... this is where I’m at with gear based on all of your suggestions.

Since the Sawyer team has ignored my requests to update the published cleaning protocol for this popular filter, I thought someone should make this information more visible.
**tldr: Hydrogen peroxide (the active ingredient in non-chlorinated bleach) "can damage the hollow fibers" of the filter. Sanitizing with hydrogen peroxide "is unsafe. It has a chemical reaction with the fibers and destroys them." "If I understood our lead engineer correctly, the cost to test if the filter has been compromised costs more than replacing it. I'm kinda sick of my go-to lunch and it's not very weight-to-calorie efficient. I used to just do high calorie bars but then I got to the point where I couldn't even look at them. So I switched to tortillas with a pouch of chicken or pork, bbq sauce/mayo packet, and crunched up Spicy Nacho Doritos. But I'm always still hungry after them since the pouch of chicken is like 90 calories.
What are you all doing for like 4-5 day trips?
Also while you're at it. What are you doing for breakfast?
I hate doing time-consuming meals in the morning and never use my stove, even for coffee. I like to just GO, I'll mix instant coffee with cold water. For nutrition, I have a ca

Hey everyone!
After years of being ultralighters, my partner and I took the leap and started making our own UL gear. We launched a small business about 6 months ago — for now, we’re focusing on minimalist garments with Alpha Direct.
We wanted to share our project with this community. It hasn’t been easy getting the word out beyond our circle of friends and thru-hiker people, but we’re proud of what we’ve made so far and we’re always looking for feedback from fellow hikers.
If you’re curious, here’s our site: tribe-ulgear.com

Here is an XUL (sub-3 lb) gear list that I went out with a few weekends ago for an overnighter. It was my attempt to put together the most robust and comfortable 3-lb backpacking kit I could muster. This was both for the fun challenge of it, but also to help me think critically about what gear I value and why. I was aiming for a kit that would work with nighttime lows of 50F, could handle itself in rain, could deal with light bug pressure, and that I could take out for a typical 3-day, 2-night weekend trip.
For additional context, I am bi-coastal and hike mostly in Southern Appalachia and Northern California. On the overnighter I took with th

In late October 2023, u/danstenziano and I completed Brett Tucker's Lowest to Highest route. Unfortunately just getting around to writing up a trip report now. More unfortunately, Dan got so frustrated at the route that he didn't film anything for his YouTube channel, and we now have no footage of one of the hardest trips we've done.
Abbreviated TR below, full report plus dozens of photos linked below.

When: 2023-10-29, + 6 days
Distance: ~135 route miles, 7 additional miles, 34K of vertical gain

Which good 35-45L framed packs are available in Europe with a solid return process (i.e. not custom made)?
We have a great thread here about European packs, but many of the options in the 35-45L range are only available frameless or custom-made.
I already have a frameless 30L running-style pack for going fast with essentials only. I would like a slightly larger one with a hip belt and metal/carbon frame for when I'm taking it more slowly and carrying a few more things. That includes my camera, so some padding on the shoulder strap is needed for a Capture Clip. I'm also tall, so the pack would need

Was wandering around the Keswick (Lake District) village and out nowhere I see a "Montbell" sign, i was like it must just be a store that somehow stocks Montbell gear. Went in and nope it's actually an official store, only Montbell gear with Japanese tags etc. Spoke to one of the friendly staff working there and he said it opened earlier than expected ( 2 weeks now) and that they will get their "full stock" by winter time as there's some delay, still some decent pieces although I didn't notice any of the ultralight favourites like the Versalite jacket. I'll be here for a few more days so if anyone wants some info on availability/gear etc just sho

I was looking for an alternative to the Gossamer Gear thinlight (rolled) online and couldn´t really find anything compareable in the EU. The Thinlight is quite expensive over her - The cheapest version I was able to find (with reasonable shipping) was 45,85€ total.
Then I stumbled upon the EXPED doublemat Evazote, which is widely available:
Stats:
200x100
R-Value (ASTM): 1.1
Weight: 260g
Thickness: 4mm
Costs: 49,90€
Gossamer Gear Thinlight rolled
Stats:
150x50
R-Value: estimated 0,5 by GG
Weight: 80g
Thickness: 3mm
Costs: 45,85€
So you basically could cut the Exped in half lengthwise and if you rally like shorten it to 150cm and you have 2 mats for the p

Hi all
I'm falling further and further into the UL hole, and when I got more serious about hiking followed general but not completely UL/SUL recommendations for my gear acquisitions.
This has lead me to a point where I have an updated mentality not bringing a lot of spare stuff I don't need, and can get a really nice light pack depending on conditions.
When reviewing my gear for the next upgrades to prepare for a hike this summer with uncertain conditions both in terms of restocking food/water and expected weather, I'm mostly seeing all these scenarios where directly replacing an item with a slightly lighter one can save 30-60g.
I'm not talking stuff where you

I have been wearing these pants for many years. I still have a few pairs that are probably 8 years old and still in good shape for being worn a couple hundred times. I bought two new pairs in January and one of the buttons snapped while unbuttoning it today. It feels like it's made out of thin tin. The old buttons were riveted on and much more robust. The new buttons are a thin metal disc held on by a fabric strap. The stitching has been going downhill for years as well. I'm kind of bummed, but I need to find a new everyday pant. I could not recommend these to anyone. I do like the built in cinch since I hate wearing a belt. This is the new crappy button: <https:/

Yes... I'm 1 in 2800 in the world. A smooth 7 feet tall. Of course no company will hit a niche of 2800 folks in the world... without at least attaching a high price tag. And man... I'm truly entitled to nothing - but what is my way out?

UL Sleeping Bags... 6 feet 6 inches
UL Sleeping Pads... 6 feet 6 inches
Any thoughts on what a x-tall man should do?
Western Mountaineering has a 7 foot tall bag, but it's ~$800.
I tried out the Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL3, which is 223cm, but it was unfortunately too small.
The goal is 6-7-8,000m climbs one day. Training in the Colorado Rockies. The only option I can see is forward is maybe like a Dynema builder to make

Made a post asking if the Airmesh will come back in stock a few months ago. @rxbanana checked with the customer support and here's what they said:
“Thanks a lot for the time! I have already checked in both, men and women, and I have confirmed that the last production of the AirMesh™ Hoody have been in fall of last year, therefore it will not come back in the future”
I'm now looking for alternatives (outside of Alpha Direct), that people recommend.
