  • Thanks! This post went much further down the comment rabbit hole than I expected!

    My interest in posting on Lemmy is to educate people on the liberty movement in New Hampshire (which cannot be done effectively with insults). It's either not known, or there is a lot of misinformation. People think it ended with the Free Town Project, but it has grown 10x since then.

  • In New Hampshire we pay the federal income tax, but there is no state tax on income. In most other states you pay both a state and a federal income tax.

    Several states in the US have no state income tax:

    • Florida
    • Texas
    • Washington
    • Nevada
    • Wyoming
    • New Hampshire
    • Alaska
    • Tennessee

  • I always wear a seat belt. It's definitely safer than not wearing one.

It is safer, after all. It's merely that the government cannot require that adults do (children still have to).

  • I should have been more clear. People can still get their cars inspected, it's just no longer required by the government.

    I assure you, when people hear a weird noise coming from their cars, they still go to a mechanic. 🙂

  • This is a straw man fallacy. It's not fair for someone to say they support sales tax because of the impact on property tax. Those two things are unrelated.

    Having no sales tax is amazing.  I save thousands of dollars each year. It's like having Christmas for free each year, haha! 🙂

  • New Hampshire has the largest concentration of Libertarians anywhere in the world.

  • There are areas we agree with Republicans and areas where we agree with Democrats.

    For instance, this year the Liberty Caucus joined with Democrats to pass several housing reform bills to stop local governments from preventing new construction. They also joined with Republicans to eliminate the vehicle inspections. Whichever party wants to get government out of the way is who they work with!
