  • As much as it's true, not all company are doing this. There are plenty of good East Asian company with good work life balance, especially newer company that already recognize the issue.

  • Is there any application that implement them?

  • Misskey. It's not exactly niche, but it has a lot of cool features.

    For example:

    • Drive features to reuse your image or other media.
    • Misskey games, so far only have Bubble Game and Go.
    • Groups
    • Antenna, basically subscription for any post with your set of rules.
    • Playful profile decoration, similiar to Discord/Steam.
  • Misskey is probably the only fediverse software that actually allows admin instance to put ads.

Its flagship instance, misskey.io (which also the second/third (?) biggest instances on fediverse), use freemium scheme for running the server. They have to do this as they have 600K users, with 20K visits per day. Their paid tier upgrades are mostly adding non-essentials stuff, such as drive capacity from 5GB to 30-100GB, profile and avatar decoration (similar to Discord stuff), or more webhook. They runs community ads, from indie games, vtuber promotion, comic release, or local art event. They also have one corporate backer, Skeb.jp, which an art commissioning platform.

Not saying that all instance should do this, but it could be a great learning.

  • Kinda late reply, thanks for providing this cool space for us! Good luck and have a nice day!

  • You can consider using flagship instance as a way to fund the development. It's not like they force you to use flagship instance.

There always third-party instance or self-host as an option.

I've seen multiple fediverse project dead before arrival, as the dev working on other job(s) for living. Heck, that's also the same reason why most of fediverse project are from the West, a lot of people who lives in a country with low paygrade (including me) are not able to dedicate their time for FOSS project.

  • Thanks to all admin and mods for providing us this space!!!!!

  • As I stated above: "Sometimes, people that outside the groups actually do a better match for a specific character."

At least Indonesian generally does not care about matching ethnicity or race.

  • There are always needs for self-hosting for everything.

I can see some education institution set up their 3D model instance, and make it federated with other entities.

The problem is content discovery, right? As I said before, people are working to fix that right now.

Social web is basically similar to early internet, where discovering new things is hard.

  • Fediverse itself is still "early phase"

There are plenty of proposal of features social web community, handled W3C organization, such as easier way to find content (if the instance want it to be public.)

There's definitely a value of community being able toset up instance of their own 3D pirinting models.

  • The dev is Korean.

It might seems a mere lewd game, but all games from the dev is always have relatively good story. Even their lewd gacha mobile game, Nikke, its fandom often talks about lore and backstory alongside with lewd fanart.

  • Lol, as Javanese, It's funny that Javanese ethnic name -> Javanese coffee -> Javanese programming language.

People still keep thinking that I was a programmer or making a typo of Japanese everytime I mention I speak Javanese.

  • It's legit applicable for people that have Twitter just for realtime earthquake warning.

At least its applicable for Indonesian users.

  • If people of your country is more likely to use Twitter, moving to Bluesky is not even realistic.

Also, for a lot of countries, moving to Bluesky is like moving from American controlled platform to the same American controlled platform.

    1. Non-Westerner that never have or realized alternative platform exist.
    2. Artist that dependant on mainstream social media reach. (some artists already have 100K+ followers there, fedi also have limited reach due to instance blocking, e.g. you're on Mastodon.art and want to reach Japanese audience (mainly misskey.io, but t was defederated on most of Western instance.)
    3. People with social network bubble outside Westernsphere, they only have exclusively local feed on their Twitter.
    4. People outside Westernsphere that already tried fediverse, but moving back as fediverse is still Western-centric or does not have their own community on feidverse.
    5. Community that does not have monetary power to invest on their own fedi instance.
  • LibreOffice is good as a standalone software, if you're not looking for MS Office compability. I use LibreOffice, and my sister suddenly ask me to help edit their MS Office document. It was nightmare. There are a lot of hidden gotchas that rarely reported. It's absolutely not recommended to constantly changing software if you're editing your document.

Also, at the moment, Excel has more advance feature than LibreOffice Calc.

  • Its license is more of forbidding anyone to use it for commercial purpose. People still can fork it for non-commercial purpose.

    https://gitlab.futo.org/videostreaming/grayjay/-/blob/master/LICENSE.md

It's not ideal but I won't blame them. Huge chunk of casual consumer FOSS are distrubuted without permission on mobile, slapping ads and other monetization. Notably, almost all Minecraft clone on Android are based Minetest/Luanti.

  • The original image seems related to Westernsphere social media huh

Facebook in my region (Southeast Asia) is still filled with Gen Z, wirh various niche groups that often have more than 100K members. From anime meme to satirical anti-corruption group. Or fried chicken seller group and book barter for your small city.

I was active moderating on one local music group band on FB with 250K members.

I hope I can change Facebook for fediverse, but there's still no Facebook group alternative and actual active community on fediverse to make it happen.

  • Various countries have cross method payment system that actually easier, cheaper (sometimes free), and faster than Paypal, Visa, and other US provider.

For example, indian UPI or Indonesian QRIS.

Indonesian QRIS even works with other banks and mobile wallet across Southeast Asia, India, Taiwan, China, and Japan.

It’s been a while! This release, the first stable in a decade, was designed to have minimal feature changes from 3.2.2. The goal was to just cut a release that builds on modern systems, which was itself more than enough work. Further releases will include actual features and more normal changelogs. The version is 3.4.0 to avoid conflicts with forks that tagged things under 3.3.x. Moving forward, development will continue out of TypesettingTools/Aegisub.

Open source alternative to Internet Download Manager

Hello everyone! I want to ask some recommendation of open source alternative to IDM with these feature:

    • Automically capture link from browser (especially Firefox)
    • Compact layout like IDM, no excessive theme
    • Still maintained
    • No silly "freemium" like FileCentipede
    • Video download indicator on browser, I mainly download videos from YT, NicoNicoDouga, Bilibili, Facebook Videos, Instagram, etc. Similar to:
    • Properly detect non Latin character file name

I already research some options, but I asking directly to community might surface interesting underrated programs.

    Thank you!
