  • I think it's the same as with being toxic irl. I would guess it's a sort of revenge against society that has hated these people for doing something before. Or maybe people feel injustice when others do what they can't. Sometimes, your peaceful opinion might be an attack for somebody if it represents something they fight. It also may make these people feel less helpless and more self-worthy, i.e. compensate for the hate they've received themselves. Trauma, to put it simply

  • Set up my own matrix instance!

  • I like how seriously you took it

  • What's interesting, "-lingus" in cunnilingus and "lingua" are actually connected. "Lingua" used to be "dingua" but then mixed with the verb "lingo" (I lick) because, well, tongues do lick.

Also both dingua and lingo are cognates to English toungue and lick.

    Anyway sorry for being boring!

  • I've just read a little bit about Juche idea and it seems to me it's the opposite to my views. Wikipedia (which I know isn't always a credible source) states:

Juche incorporates the historical materialist ideas of Marxism–Leninism but also strongly emphasizes human agency, role of consciousness, and primacy of ideology and propaganda. In politics, Juche emphasizes the nation state, national sovereignty, and strongly defends the role of an individual leader.

If this is true, I think Juche idea is closer to idealism. Human agency is taken here more as the ability of an individual to influence other people, as leadership, which produces the idea of "primacy of ideology and propaganda". And I, by human agency, mean transforming the world around us, evolving the artificial environment we live in, i.e. the development of means of production. So the conclusion I draw is that overcoming alienation can only be done through changing the mode of production and can not be done politically.

Btw, check out Ilyenkov. He's an example of a philosopher who took Diamat forward.

  • Wow, this is pretty good! Usually people understand Marxism very superficially. I'm glad there are people who take the theory seriously.

This is not about summarizing the "classical" marxist view and more about extending it, but on the side note, I think the very split of being into matter and consciousness should be overcome. The two opposing sides should be united in something that interconnects and comprehends both of them. And that is human action (and activity in general). Idealism states what we perceive is created by our mind. Materialism states what we sense is the world itself. But actually both are true. Cognition is human action towards the world. We do create what we see, but we do so by changing the world around us. So it's more similar to how a painter depicts something than to how water reflects surrounding objects.

  • Got it, thanks!

  • Is it correct the same relay should be added to the instances I want to federate with?

  • Oh okay, thanks, I think I understand it better now

  • Thanks!

  • Oh wow, Lemmy Federate ezplains how I could see posts on small communities, thanks for the info!

  • Thanks! Didn't know about relays, will try

  • That's so weird. There is a pull request for Mastodon that fixes this so it's definitely not about the protocol. I really can't understand why this is happening...

  • This! I've got 7 machines running NixOS already and using Linux on so many machines is only manageable with the reproducibility NixOS provides. Whenever I lay my hands on a new server, PC, laptop, tablet or phone, I just add a few lines for it in my config, run a single nixos-anywhere command and it's good to go. Syncing changes is also just two commands: git pull && nh os switch. Been using NixOS for a year and a half and it still can'st stop to amaze me

  • Check out Dreaming Spanish. They are using Automatic Language Growth method which imitates the way children learn their first language. Instead of learning the mechanics of the language, you naturally absorb it by immersing yourself in native content supplied with lots of context such as gestures, sounds, images etc. The end result is supposed to be developing an intuitive sense of the language and reaching a near native-like level of competence in it.

  • +1 for matrix

  • Just don't show what's going on in Ukrainian schools and we're all good

  • You don't even need to be an experienced developer to see how bad AI created code is. AI just hallucinates too much. I tried asking ChatGPT to write a fairly simple shell script script for me a few times and it added non-existent commands or references EACH times.

Honestly I think AI has other fields of application. It's good when you do something yourself but need an approximation about something. However trying to replace humans with it is just a sign of misunderstanding of the technology. AI shouldn't be called Artificial Intelligence in the first place (damn good marketing tho). It's more like a way of automating statistics.
