It’s always good to keep your options open. The fediverse has set up guardrails to prevent things from happening here that have already happened out there but anything can fail. I myself have an account on ramble if shit goes bad here. Always have an escape route. Have no loyalty, that will be abused.
My roommate found a large dog on our front porch tonight. He turned his car around, aimed the headlights at it, then came up to the front of porch and took a picture of it to text me, BLOCKING ITS ONLY EXIT ROUTE.
I open the front door to see the shaking, scared dog ready to freak the fuck out and the roommate is getting out of his car to try and pet the cornered animal. I waved him off and kept the doors closed so it could feel safe and get away.
The more attention the dog got, the more violently it trembled. And my roommate just wants to pet the doggie.
My point is there are a lot of incredibly stupid people out there. Their stupidity will eventually kill them. It just hasn’t done so yet.
I had this issue for years and finally tried just plain head and shoulders. Once the bottle ran out I went back to regular shampoo and conditioner and I only wash my hair 3 times a week now. The dandruff never came back.
I’ve had synology, QNAP and a few DIY builds. I can tell you the diy route is better every time. They get a much longer life and lower costs.
If cheap is the most important thing and you don’t need more than 2 drives, consider an odroid HC-4. You can always 3D print a different shell for it if you want too. I made a cylinder Mac Pro shell for a friends dads build.
You can’t rely on mass produced NAS devices because they don’t support their stuff long term. It always blows up. And when the In go wrong in the short term, the support is trash tier. I once had a synology that would crash every time it went to sleep and it would ignore my attempts to sleep off. When I got hold of support, they told me to open the SSH port to the WAN for it and they would get to it in a week or 2. Damn thing was attacked instantly.
Why even buy the raw discs? Their SSDs are trash (including their SanDisk offerings) and for hard drives seagate is perfectly fine. If I’m oka with high a cheap SSD, I’ll just buy an inland drive.
At a certain point, the word “terrorist” becomes less threatening. We are currently at the stage where my niece refusing to pick up her toys makes her a terrorist.
Inciting violence was the reason given for me too. Challenging Nazis is violent to them. Don’t let them normalize this idiocy.
