  • Agreed. He treated the muppets as fellow actors and it created a wonderful energy that still shines through all these years later.

There’s a few Scrooge movies I like to catch each year: Muppet Christmas Carol, Scrooged, and Spirited has joined the ranks recently. There’s one particular scene in that last one that absolutely horrifies me in the best way. They modernized a lot of it and made it more accessible to people who might otherwise see these concerns as outdated.

  • I must disagree with you there. I get more support from the open source community and their things than I do from commercial stuff. Commercial pretends to offer support that isn’t actually there in 2025. They just have call centers that tell you to reboot and then escalate, which basically turns into stalling until you figure it out yourself.

When was the last time you got support for a Google product? What about Microsoft? Apple? Apple used to have decent support but it’s all the same offshored nonsense that the others have now. Hearing “I don’t know” in an Indian accent isn’t support. Microsoft is the worst of the bunch. They have an entire industry set up with people saying you can get support in their ecosystem but it’s all third parties pointing at eachother and no one taking any responsibility.

  • Programmers can also create non-enshittified solutions in their off time and release it publicly for free and many do. What good can a marketer do for the world?

Fucking nothing. Marketing is just another word for propaganda. Fuck em.

  • We had a thing at work where we were being trained to handle payments. As part of the class, we had to run through United Ways poverty simulator and talk about the experience. The idea was to reinforce empathy or something before unleashing us on the payment lines.

One of the girls gets on mic and says she doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about. She never has to worry about money or poor people because “god provides for me.” And she laughed about it.

This was following the rest of sharing our own hardships we’ve been through and the troubles we’ve heard from other callers on the phones.

    Fucking psychopath.

  • And I can always replace it. Charging stations are not complicated. And they don’t need connections to the internet to run.

  • There’s a reason they have marketing jobs.

  • Glados: “just offer them cake and a fire pit and calm down”

  • Exactly. There’s a reason power isn’t going away.

  • I use something similar. “Child with enormous vocabulary.”

It can recognize correlations, it understands the words themselves, but it really how those connections or words work.

  • I still whip out megaman X sometimes. My siblings and I play the original crash team racing every other Christmas too.

  • Nvidia doesn’t want you to use that card. Get a cheap Intel ARC B570/580 instead and reward their competitor

  • To be fair to Apple those changes were done pretty cleanly and for good reason.

68k was cheap and plentiful. It had lots of competitors using it. They could learn from each others successes and failures too.

PowerPC performed much better and made design changes that made much more sense long-term. But then it wasn’t built for the mobile era. Apple tried to reel it in but the other titans behind POWER overruled them so Apple had to migrate away.

By this point, x86 had caught up with many of the advantages power had and had a better path for the mobile market ahead of it so Apple went that route.

Finally, intel’s x86 was just not going to keep up with the efficiency demands of mobile. It consumed too much power. It was expensive. It ran hot. Intel was not delivering on their promises. And Apple could see what was coming for Intel years before others admitted it.

Meanwhile they already had incredible ARM chips in their phones. The PAsemi boys they bought up were put to the task of making a more general purpose ARM chip and they pulled it off.

So now Apple is on ARM and it’s serving them very well.

Apple isn’t playing planned obsolescence here. They are evil in plenty of other ways but in terms of planned obsolescence Apple is one of the more reasonable companies. These migrations solved a problem for Apple each time. They are very expensive. They are incredibly risky. Honestly it was miraculous they pulled off the jump to ARM successfully.

  • I’ve tried explaining AI to people before and only could get so far before they fall back on “but it’s magic dude” but I love the idea of explaining it as a haunted typewriter.

  • If you are patient, you can torrent off i2p

  • Oh they are certainly automating the entire thing. This is all crumbling in spectacular fashion.

  • I was sent here for “inciting violence.” In reality, me and the others banned were celebrating the torching of teslas at dealerships.

Refusal to mourn the inconvenience of billionaires is a violent act on Reddit.

  • But the out group is typically just “non members”. They are the ones deciding gays are in that group. There are plenty of stupid people under the rainbow. We aren’t special.

  • Hey hey hey, there’s i2p too.
