  • As a wormholer, watching it unfold from afar has been kinda hilarious

  • This is incredibly niche but in the Blue Planet mod for Freespace 2 you're on the losing side of a war for the whole campaign - your elite unit pulls off a bunch of small-scale clutch victories but overall things are not looking good. Near the end of the campaign there's an elaborate series of missions involving disabling a bunch of hostile ships, intercepting and manipulating distress comms, and otherwise setting up a trap for the opposite faction's command ship, the Carthage (culminating in a mission called, appropriately, "Delenda Est"). All the setup missions go smoothly, as does the first springing of the trap, but then

a counter-trap is sprung as soon as your forces are fully committed - another fleet's flagship and elite escorts who are supposed to be somewhere else warp in at murder range and start absolutely obliterating your people. The absolute dread as you realize almost nobody is getting out alive sticks with me.

Edit: found a video for the voice-acted version

  • CRANE WIVES SPOTTED IN THE WILD but thankfully most of their work is at least as good

  • The gameplay is fun, but the story is kinda nonsensical and the antagonist names are just dumb (ah yes, Red the Red and Blue the Blue!)

  • Either I'm having a slow day or that's a really bad headline, had to read it 3 or 4 times before I could parse it.

  • Bastion, Hades, Disco Elysium, Planescape: Torment, and Tyranny (even if the last act is rushed in the last two) come to mind for me

  • Maybe if you spam this to more communities one will magically appear.

  • Bouldy would NEVER, you take that back

  • It's called an MBA

  • Don't tell Harrowhark about this.

  • We don't have any malk, but I can get you some MILK

  • Yeah a lot of the tutorial and the low-level missions are like that, but once you get into some cruisers/battlecruisers you start unlocking all kinds of fun PvE stuff like escalations/DED sites, wormhole ratting, etc. And PvP is a lot of fun once you get over the fear of losing ships, especially with a good group. I really enjoy flying support roles, being the most irritating ship on the field is always fun and often hilarious

  • Flying spaceships around and shooting things! Learning curve is definitely steep but it's a lot of fun even while you're figuring out wtf you're doing, and there's tons of variety in what you can do.
