Jännät (/ˈjænːæt/). Finnish adjective, plural: "interesting, cool, neat, exciting".

  • There definitely is an argument here that most modern workplaces are truly dystopian panopticons

There absolutely isn't an argument like that. Where the hell have you people been working if you think most workplaces are like that?

Edit: yes, some of the methods definitely wouldn't work because they're outdated, but not because every single workplace is like the NSA

Edit part deux – the return of the Edit: also, I think a lot of you folks are forgetting that not every job is an IT job

  • Well, the "lead" surgeon wasn't even licenced to practice medicine in France, so it's kinda hard to feel bad for him

  • No

  • The surgery was a success: the patient died

  • RIP Bozo

  • I recommended this manual's section on workplace sabotage, and I had a user say that this would not work today, because apparently literally every single workplace is a panopticon that will detect even the tiniest amount of inefficiency and fire you for it, and apparently somehow even though every single worker in some unit was working as slow as possible it would not hurt efficiency, because magical surveillance technology.

Also according to them if you try this you will be PROSECUTED, and I guess you'll also be flogged, shot, hanged, quartered, burned at the stake, and then flogged again for good measure. And then you'll be fired.

Not sure if that person's just an idiot or actively trying to prevent people from trying simple sabotage.

That manual was published in 1944, when significant workplace malfeasance could be readily concealed. A worker in that time could easily hamper far more production than they were forced to produce to maintain their cover.

With modern workplace supervision, surveillance and record keeping designed specifically to identify and eliminate such “inefficiencies”, our modern saboteur cannot hope to achieve results anywhere close to those of his great-grandfather. The amount of production he has to achieve to maintain his cover greatly exceeds the loss of production from his efforts. Your great grandfather could throw a wrench in the gears and play dumb; you’ll be caught and prosecuted if you try the same, so you have to resort to less effective efforts.

With such extensive workplace surveillance in place, every worker in a unit can be a “saboteur”, and productivity from that unit can still be positive. They can churn out production even with every single worker actively trying to slow it.

Better for our would-be saboteur to resign. He sets the example for his former co-workers, while also saddling them with his work. His absence damages unit productivity more than he could achieve through active sabotage.

The tactics you are recommending are about 60 years out of date.>

  • That's… that's terrible. Like I replied to that just a while ago, I wouldn't be surprised if this leads to further radicalisation of Americans if they do actually end up using UpScrolled.

Putting my tinfoil hat on, this actually feels like a reich-wing ploy

  • Holy crap that's even worse than I thought. I tried making an account just to check it out myself even though I'm not at all interested in the service itself, but their email verification emails just never come through even though I tried several times (I'm using Proton, and no they didn't end up in spam). Seems like I'm much better off, never having to come into contact with… that.

So this isn't even a "from the frying pan into a slightly cooler frying pan" situation, but more like "from the frying pan into the open core of a nuclear reactor". I wouldn't be surprised if this even further radicalises Americans

  • Allrighty then

  • Exactly. It's been proven time and time again that if you have absolutely zero moderation except for blatantly illegal content, you'll eventually be running a Nazi bar.

Although in UpScrolled's case, I'm not sure if they weren't explicitly out to build a Nazi bar since they do seem to have a huge Nazi and antisemitism problem (well, problem for anyone who's not a Nazi anyhow) and they've apparently mass-banned trans people. So this profusion of Nazis might be a "it's a feature and not a bug" scenario, even though their TOS seemingly disallows hate speech.

Also, for an "anti-censorship" platform it's funny that they ban any kind of "adult" content.

  • It's not that I disagree with that, but I can guarantee that our government doesn't think of technofascist dominance as a bad thing. Like @Zaktor@sopuli.xyz said, this is being pushed to make it easier to gather data on us. Age verification does nothing to fix the underlying problem.

This government is explicitly antidemocratic and is eg. working on expanding police and military intelligence's ability to wiretap and hack people, even if they aren't suspected of a specific crime. There is exactly zero chance that the data on who logged into what service will not be used against us citizens eventually.

  • My point exactly.

  • Knowing our far right government (don't be fooled by the NCP calling themselves "fiscal conservatives", they're no better than the 2 actual far right parties in the government), this is just an excuse to increase control and surveillance of citizens

  • Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it. I'd love for Putin to get the Mussolini treatment but people have been prophesying his end for years now.

Also, he didn't even stop his war crimes for a week like he promised he would. Lesson: don't trust Russians.

  • Planes should have emergency buttplugs.

"In case of emergency, break glass"

  • Maximus Mighty-Dog Mueller II

  • I was like "wtf is that language".

    Took me way too long

  • Building a Nazi bar to make sure pro-Palestinian voices are heard seems like a suboptimal solution, though

  • Gee whiz, imagine my surprise

Edit: they're ostensibly banning trans people ("ostensibly" because it's not like I can verify the claims, not that I don't believe them), so I guess the "platforms shouldn't get to decide who exists" platform has no problem deciding trans people "shouldn't exist"?
