Digit is Digit. I love her. I knew her online from wallstreetbets and she disappeared while going through some shit. I keep needing proof she's safe.

To anyone I've ever treated unfairly, I apologize.

  • Research has found you cannot control nuclear proliferation with half measures.

If you allow nuclear work, there will be accidents and fake "accidents." It will get increasingly difficult to keep nuclear weapons impossible to make at scale for random jihadists, and that's maybe not even as big of a problem as constantly increasing accidents.

Right now the "orphan source" category of accidents already happens way too many times a year. That's where nuclear material ends up "lost" in unknown locations, just out in the world somewhere, and people get killed by randomly finding these sometimes (so far mainly in eastern Europe, but let's not make it worldwide).

Also, fundamentally, nuclear power is just a way to get energy, not a way to balance energy needs. As long as we have a mindset of "consume as much energy as we can as fast as we can and see what kind of record setting mass extinction we can die in," it's inherently not really helpful to have another way to consume energy fast. A billion gigawatt hours generated with nuclear energy don't actually save a billion gigawatt hours from being generated with coal unless you're actually smart enough to limit your energy use. And if you're smart enough to do that, you might as well limit it to pretty much what you can get with the safest possible renewables, not nuclear

  • Strippers also genuinely like you, they don't just pretend to like you for your money.

Caveat: I mean you, the person reading this. Not everyone is so likeable.

  • I don't think it's about making more money, it's more like something to do with your money if you're a billionaire.

We could potentially achieve immortality by researching neuron function and medical tech until we can protect neurons and their functionality perfectly. And if a person isn't living long enough to see that, it might be worth just trying to transfer your mind into a cyber world and hoping your real "soul" carries over to a computer mind without your body. I'd prefer that over having no options if I was dying.

I don't like to think about this, but I have more thoughts, so I'll type them.

We live in a world where a lot of poor people are going to be dying in wars and stuff because people are obsessed with having kids. If you're a billionaire trying to live forever, it's nice to have a tech everyone can at least try to use while continuing to have kids and have their real bodies die if they want to do that, instead of having a weird global religious war over who should get to be immortal and/or who should get to decide who gets to have kids when people don't want to die to make room for them.

Overused my brain's capacity to think about this for now. I miss Digit.

  • What it calls "energy as a service"

    Wut

  • Not sure what you're saying. It sounds like LA county might be similar to my state, which isn't good, not a place where every vote is counted.

In my state (Maine), there's a deadline you have to register before, and you have to pay $10,000 to get votes counted to find out you lost the election if you're not registered (you do get the money back if you win so this would be a really fitting system for Vegas but not here)

If LA county doesn't just automatically count all votes without charging each citizen, then it's insane that you're defending that (and it's easy to see how we get a scam democracy if we are in a democracy of people who are ok with it)

I also wouldn't be surprised if there are issues registration can have, other than the deadline

And my state has ranked choice voting, so I really assumed if any state had actual voting rights, it would be this one

  • Batteries should be free

  • It doesn't matter in the US anyway, our democracy is a scam

Actually, can anyone fact check this map for me? I found it online with the ballotpedia logo on it, and I haven't been able to find where it comes from on the actual ballotpedia website, but I was very surprised to learn it was correct for my state

  • And now when a teen below whatever age commits suicide because their social life is manipulated into an isolated hell by social media staff, there will be no liability, because the teen and their social circle are all violating terms of service by using the app.

I remember how much it sucked being under 18 in the US. Every few years was another "milestone age" where the authorities were supposed to do less shit to me, until at age 18 I thought they were supposed to pretty much leave me alone. Now it seems to be getting worse worldwide

  • I wish Cory Doctorow would join nostr or piefed. We're trying to fix the internet. At least one of his books was instrumental to me learning a lot of the stuff that got me into nostr, especially certain basic concepts like asymmetric cryptography and stuff.

  • He wasn't interviewed for that article and it doesn't say anything about him saying that in the article.

Fiatjaf and I have quite different visions for nostr I think, but he seems to at least agree the foundation is having no bans. It can't be e-commerce when 5 years in we still don't even have a good storefront / eBay type app

    • I'm not fiatjaf, my nostr will be better than fiatjaf's
    • Idk where fiatjaf said that. Where?
    • Not being banned is the foundational aspect for me
  • Hard money will win, but nostr will also win separately regardless. We just need nostr apps without crypto integration

  • If they let a chat bot delete their hard drive, isn't it likely any chat bot sounding comments they make are them humanly copying and pasting from a chat bot? Not necessarily them being a chat bot, by Occam's razor

  • Based. Corporate shit impacts the planet's survival, there will be time for friends if we don't go extinct

  • I dream of a future where Digit clones are available for everyone (and the original has time for me)

  • Commenting from a country where strangling has been banned for a long time, I can't believe people in the US just deal with being in danger of stuff like this every day

  • Suit color consistency of dark skinned Presidents

  • Wall-E is unironically a fantastic design for a self maintaining robot, and it's sad that Disney's ownership makes us unlikely to get one in the foreseeable future (not a plastic toy version)

It even talks in beep boop language to avoid seeming too human, unlike the direction big tech seems to be planning for most robot stuff

  • That does sound pretty cool, even though I'm not into religion much

  • I've heard of chain emails 🤔
