    Abstract

This study examines the influence of typhoons on atmospheric microplastic (MP) pollution by utilizing atmospheric deposition samples collected during three typhoons in eastern China (2023–2024). MP deposition rates increased significantly during typhoons (6291–12,722 items/m2/d), followed by a sharp decline post-typhoon (48–779 items/m2/d). Typhoon periods exhibited increased polymer diversity (9 types versus 4–5 during nontyphoon periods) and a higher prevalence of small-sized MPs (<280 μm), including dense polymers like PET and PVC, indicating a potential vertical resuspension from deeper ocean layers and subsequent atmospheric emission. Backward trajectory analysis confirmed the predominant entrainment of marine air masses during typhoon events, establishing a direct pathway for atmospheric transport from marine to terrestrial environments. We propose a novel mechanism whereby typhoons enhance vertical MP transport through mixing and facilitate their resuspension and atmospheric release via bubble bursting. Additionally, we examine how climate-driven typhoon intensification may accelerate MP pollution, creating a feedback loop where MPs affect ocean warming and climate, further intensifying typhoons and worsening both issues. Finally, discussing the implications of these results in policy development and urban planning to combat typhoon-induced MP pollution. Our findings offer substantial indirect evidence and provide a foundation for future studies to generate direct empirical validation of mechanisms.

  • I would agree that far right extremism qualifies as right wing. Trouble is, in Germany the AfD has identical positions as CDU/CSU as of decade or two ago, and both would be considered to be left wing in the US political context. A very left party like BSW was attempted to be smeared to be right wing.

Such labels assigned by the mainstream media have become meaningless, so I would encourage you to look at party programs and their voting patterns in parliaments to gauge where they really stand. I will avoid mentioning the general regression to pre-party times to avoid further confusion.

Droughts are lasting longer across Australia, study shows

  • Light guns, as input devices for CRT?

  • The EU is already using that. Pick some other Reich that is still free.

  • Right-wing is code for not being part of the ruling party block.

  • The EU is fast-tracking the Fourth Reich, so visit it while there's still time.

  • Russians are visiting China visa free and vacation in North Korea no problem. So, this is worse.

  • You have to prove that you don't have accounts with the usual suspects. So, to prove a negative. And that obviously makes you suspicious. Oh, and Lemmy would be considered to be social media.

  • That would fly well, as a defense in court. Social media are what they say are social media.

  • If it's not self hostable open source that's a hard NO from me.

  • In hypersonics Russia currently has a lead over China. Obviously they're going to catch up rather soon.

  • Obviously the collapse process is not uniform in space and time, and boundary conditions can accelerate or delay it, in a given compartment.

For instance, the apparent goal of the proxy conflict is to destabilize and weaken Russia, damage relationships of the EU core countries with Russia and China (and Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, etc.), extract resources (weapons purchases, attracting industry and talent, etc.) from EU countries to delay collapse of the US heartland. The current EU leadership is acting as compradors in this game, to the great disadvantage of its constituents.

As such policies which disrupt (self-sanctions, blowing up of gas pipelines, tankers and oil processing plants) or redispatch (e.g. US selling to EU liquified Russian gas at a premium) energy and essential material flows make local industries non-competitive to US and Asia, and cause accelerated deindustrialization.

In a game "the last man standing wins" that's an obvious disadvantage. But in the end, all of them will go down, eventually.

  • Russia has that too, nevertheless Kinzhal and Kalibr (which are lower-Mach and don't carry a hypersonic glider stage) are both about 10 MUSD. Just the costs of JP-10/decilin are considerable already.

Depending on the specs, I'd assume the price to be a few MUSD, never under 100 kUSD.

  • It's economics. Materials and even the fuel used by hypersonics (as in maneuvrable high-Mach glide vehicle) have a certain price tag, even in China. 100 kUSD buys far too little of that, even in Russia and China.

  • Fat nodes on fast low-latency pipes ran on dual-stacked servers 24/7 reduce ephemeral node churn and aid in node and content discovery. Mobile devices on P2P behind CGNAT and other brain damage are more a problem, than a solution.

  • Solche Urteile fordern förmlich heraus eine andere, direkte Art der Kritik. Bei der auch Anwälte nicht mehr helfen.

  • In software engineering, saying "it's just a word change" without a technical rationale ought to have you murdered on the spot.
