The business of organizing and spreading leftist propaganda.
I believe some millionaires want socialist revolution. Remember the bourgeoisie are not happy, even if they are better off than everyone else. They're alienated from their fellow man. The system keeps them afraid, makes them think their only option is to make more money. This all causes further isolation and fear.
If you're so concerned about it. You should probably get off Lemmy. The people who run Lemmy servers are running a business. They accept donations just like Vaush and Hassan. You're tainting yourself with capitalism by even posting here.
If Elon musk started spreading leftist propaganda to the masses like he was spreading fascist propaganda. And if he would stop spreading the fascist propaganda. I wouldn't have a problem with him.
This purity testing is not helping anyone but the fascists.
Feel good about doing nothing? Have you actually watched a Vash or Hasan stream. Yeah the bad outcome is almost totally guaranteed at this point in time. But we're still being basically yelled at to go phone, bank or organize.
As for monetization. Welcome to capitalism. You either monetize or you go out of business. Better to monetize and spread propaganda than be too holy to be effective.
I agree. Unfortunately, I think it's the best we have right now. The subtleties of who is and isn't the bourgeoisie takes a level of brain power that the average person just does not have today.
On the plus side, most if not all billionaires are the bourgeoisie. And "billionaires are bad" is much better than "billionaires are good" which was the thinking in the 2000s.
Hosting a chat room meant you had to self host or trust someone else's server.
There is no concept of groups. So you had to create several channels with some kind of naming scheme. There is no way to see them in a group. You just need to know about them as a chatter.
History is not saved by default. Most used a 3rd party server to host a history log, which is more work.
There is no audio, video, screen sharing.
You can't reply to a chat with an emoji. You can't edit your previous chats.
You can't reply to a specific chat unless you get specific like copying the original chat.
Don't get me wrong. I hated that discord owns most of the communication online.
I wish there was a simple and easy to use open source tool that did all of that in a single package.
I don't mind self-hosting but if I have to self-host several interacting services that I need to update manually, it becomes a pain.
I find computers endlessly fascinating and they are easier to understand than social interactions. If you took away easier forms of entertainment I would be seeking harder forms of entertainment. Probably also starting a revolution.
I remember struggling with the idea that all companies care more about the bottom line than anything else. People are good and care about good things. How can companies who are made of people always cause problems? There must be at least one good company out there, right?
It's only after I spent some time in the world that I figured out that money really messes with things. It pressures companies to do whatever they can get away with. It separates the people who run the companies from the bad outcomes that company creates.
And at the end of the day everyone needs to make a choice. Live and participate in a system that causes problems, or die. I chose to live and I don't blame anyone else for choosing to live.
