  • Is Mango gamified? I only used the online version not the app and there was nothing pushing streaks or anything like that. But this was nearly a year ago so they could have changed a bit. I also did a full chapter at a time as opposed to a single lesson, but I can see the "small bites" arguement. I did really like the recording option to practice pronunciation.

    Overall, I see what you are saying though.

    I'll be living in my target language country and taking classroom lessons next semester. I actually was already living there last semester, but fell off my lessons entirely. I was basically focused on language "survival" skills instead of learning more if that makes any sense.

  • If you don't mind me asking, what are your thoughts on Mango Languages?

    I've been trying to use it and it definently works better than doulingo ever did.

    My typical routine was a couple of lessons in Mango (I usually wrote my answers on paper first then typed them), an instructional podcast (coffee break series), then followed by 30 minutes of listening practice (peppa pig lol).

    I fell out of the routine for personal reasons, but it felt like it was working well enough

    So far all we see in that link is someone said something and was banned from 6 communities on the .world instance, over the course of a few months too. It wasn't all at once or even this community.

    What they said is very important to make a determination on if these bans were justified, but regardless it has nothing to do with the instance as a whole. Based on the limited evidence you provided

  • Really was more for a content warning than anything. I was instructed to NSFW the video Alex Pretti's shooting by the mods. Figured this was similar

    NSFL or a gore warning is a more accurate description, but NSFW is the only tag available.

    Personally I don't think the video is all that bad, but didn't want to run afoul of the mods/rules

  • Right you didn't have an issue with that statement yesterday, and now you're making some wild assumptions and accusations about my beliefs in an attempt to further fish for an argument.

    Anyway I also addressed many of you points yesterday. Here I can quote it again since you forgot.

    Attempts to remove a dictator by force are usually not possible without a lengthy occupation. There's no new government or leaders ready to form a new government that is better for the Iranian people. An occupation is also unlikely to have good results. This isn't reforming Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan, this is something else entirely. I would expect the people of Iran to not respond well to aggressors occupying their country. This is at best Afghanistan 2, but likely worse

    I think this sums up my fears well. I don't think the United States should be sending people to die, or bombing schools, to end this regime. Odds are based on the US track record it will be ineffective or worse for the Iranian people. The US has a record of replacing a dictator with even worse US friendly dictators. Not to mention if the regime doesn't fall this will be a bloody campaign, the bombs alone can easily kill more than 30,000 Iranians.

    Sorry I don't want my country to play world police anymore. We're bad at it, it's expensive, and too many people die every time

    I have a draft age son

    I am still draft age, scares the shit out of me this war will get worse and the draft is coming. I'm not going either. I don't even think suspecting a draft is unlikely. It's just the added bits and hyperbole of your arguement I didn't like.

    My advice to avoid it short term is if your son is college age send him abroad for college. I am doing a graduate degree myself waiting to see if I'll be able to claim asylum. Added benefit it's so much cheaper abroad tuition wise. I did the math the total program costt (rent, tuition, insurance, etc) will cost me less than 1 semesters tuition in the US

    The draft part will be announced in January 2027.

    Source or more speculation?

    I'm not opposed to being predictive of the administration, but I'm not going to get online and pretend to know with certainty when they will do something.

  • Yeah it's possible, but I don't see the point in making up scenarios when they are doing more than enough now. There's a couple thousand laws they could figure out a way to weaponize, doesn't mean they will and doesn't suddenly make those laws "MAGA law".

    Equating all federal law to "MAGA law" is incredibly reactionary.

    Also you've slightly changed your position on what you mean by "MAGA Law" each time you've replied. To me it reeks of the over-reactionary rhetoric the conservatives use. I don't need boogeymen and hyperbole when we have more than enough real problems to deal with. Real problems stemming from Trump and MAGA of course

    Registering for the draft was passed into law in 1917 by Woodrow Wilson. 29 years before Trump was born.

    Calling that "MAGA" law makes no sense practically or historically

    I know they launched unguided missiles that did ultimately strike civilians. We would need to know the initial targets. It's considered "normal" in a war to send large barrages towards legitimate targets and hope they hit. An airport or factory would be a legitimate target, but a school or hospital would not be.

    Now of course Israel and the US have hit both schools and hospitals using guided missiles. Those were deliberately chosen targets.

    I won't condemn an invaded nation for defending itself.

    Iran is controlled by an oppressive regime. That doesn't give the US or Israel the right to invade nor does it forfeit the nations right to defend itself from invasion
