  • We're getting brigaded.

  • lemmy.world clowns downvoting again

  • Just to make things clear, the Bitcoin ledger is entirely transparent so not actually anonymous. While it's technically possible to not get caught with bitcoin, it requires a ton of extra effort and if you mess up only once, you might retroactively link everything back together. In Monero there are some known attacks that could reduce your privacy but if you are aware of those they can be easily avoided. There's actually a whole youtube show on those.

  • Imagine extorting $50k from someone, you can see the bitcoin move from the extortionists wallet to a non-kyc instant exchanger and 30 minutes later a non-kyc instant exchanger sends $50k minus transaction fees to a Binance account. Doesn't exactly require breaking encryption that's been around for years to make the connection.

Doesn't really matter though. If he had held onto the Monero, he would have still gotten caught because he accidentally uploaded his /home directory with personal info and published it with his extortion-account when trying to upload stolen data.

  • Monero is the solution to this specific problem though? Acceptance is a different problem and can be solved by asking the org to accept Monero.

  • Valid point with the instance list.

  • Doesn't look like it.

  • We are a crypto bubble within a tankie bubble. I think it's fair to consider discarding tankie opinions, especially if they are so over-represented that they completely drown out people on their own home instance.

  • Negative, can only disable downvotes completely. Not sure if maintaining a fork just for that is the best option. You could consider making a PR to lemmy directly :D

  • It's easy to downvote, harder to write a comment.

  • All downvotes come from other instances.

  • FYI:

  • There are a few approaches how marketplaces can be handled. If you want it to be truly p2p and trustless you might want to look into an overcollateralized model like the one used by the particl marketplace. Regular reviews without further authentication can be faked very easily for example by sellers "buying" their own stuff from sockpuppet accounts and leaving good reviews.

  • And yet, they ended up getting delisted just the same 🤷‍♂️

  • There was an issue with v19 but v19.1 should have fixed it. I don’t think there’s anything wrong on our end, if anything it’s lemmy-related. We aren't de-federated by any big instances and block nobody ourselves. Federation itself is just pretty wonky by the nature of its design 🤷‍♂️

  • The lemmy software seems to have gotten rather stable, we have had decent growth and no big issues, everything you'd want for a niche forum. I am quite happy with the current state of monero.town :)

  • Storage is already cheap and has been getting cheaper at a faster rate than the blockchain grows since Moneros inception. With some napkin math I once came to the conclusion that Monero can easily handle 1 million tx per day and even 10 million per day is still doable with current SSD prices. The real problem in these scenarios would be bandwidth but barring some fiat-mega-black-swan I don't see such a large increase in the foreseeable future anyways.

With the improvements to lightwallets jberman is working on, syncing shouldn't be an issue at all.

    The /xmr/ threads.

  • the problem I referenced also applies to Monero

If this is about high fees: Dynamic block size ensures manageable fees under sustained high usage and fees should actually go down the more transactions there are.

If this is about technical discussions: The 4chan threads are unironically a good indicator for this. Currently the vibe is "moonboys gtfo" and it's the same for all other community channels.

  • Awesome :D
