  • I have one, but it only gets used a few of times a month. Usually by my wife when she just wants to make a small amount of coffee in the French press, or to boil water for instant foods. If you don't really drink tea, they aren't that useful for the amount of counter space they take up, and I can see why they aren't as common here as they are in the UK.

  • I can kind of understand the people who speed up audiobooks and podcasts. But movies? That's nuts. |

I wonder if OP was alive during the VCR era. I bet they would have loved the FF button. AKA chipmunk mode.

  • Most of the people I know who went antivax during covid are very specifically antivax about the covid vax only. They are afraid of the mRNA tech, they think it's going to modify their genes or some BS. It really is political BS though. During the pandemic, the right wing decided to make this an issue, and they stick with it.

  • Most Americans opt to have their employer take the taxes out and send them to the government for them. But its not required, we can choose to receive all of our pay and take responsibility for sending the government their cut ourselves. Its a PITA, but some opt to put their taxes in an account to earn interest for a year before paying the government. They view paying monthly as "giving the government a free loan."

When you have your employer do it for you, your pay stub breaks down the amount you started with and how much was taken out for each tax. We can see what we are paying in tax on every paycheck which is why so many Americans complain about it.

  • My wife hates our "ugly" fridge that came with our house. It's about 25 years old works perfectly, even the ice maker. She is a frugal person that can't justify replacing it until it breaks. Yet it keeps on ticking. Everyone I know who has a fridge made in the last 10 years has a broken ice maker. I'm happy with the "ugly" perfectly functional fridge.

  • It probably helps that they are targeting decent, normal working immigrants, who are unlikely to be armed.

If they were actually going after armed gang members, they probably would be getting shot. But as we can tell by the fact they are hiding their faces, they are chicken shit losers cosplaying as tough guys targeting defenseless people because it's easier.

  • A few years back, someone at corporate made an Excel based "program" for planning our trade shows. It was the most rage inducing rickety ass bullshit contraption I have ever had to deal with. It was basically a data entry wizard GUI for a spreadsheet. But it would crash every 2-3 entries, and lose all the data that had been added since the last save. The only way to save the data involved closing it and restarting it. So I had to close/reopen after every entry just to keep from having to risk redoing it all multiple times.

  • I don't want to defend this astrology for incels BS. But I will say that the descriptions seem surprisingly positive. Usually when I hear people spouting this crap it's more along the lines of "If you aren't an Alpha, you are a Beta cuck little bitch" or similar.
