  • It's quite possible these guns really are just going off due to stacked tolerances. ForgottenWeapons did a good video on the theory.

  • Here's hoping there's a final push for SKG, then!

  • The campaign was designed to save all future games, The Crew was just a useful catalyst to launch from, since it was a very visible example of what they were fighting against.

But yes, saving games is pretty minor compared to stopping literal fascism. It's just a shame that PirateSoftware fucked the campaign so hard, and stopped a big influencer from basically pressing the 'win' button by talking about it.

    • The EU Citizens petition to stop killing games is not looking good. It's shy of halfway where it needs to be, on a very high threshold, and it's over in a month and change.
    • paraphrasing a little more than a half hour of the video: "Man, fuck Thor/Pirate Software for either lying or misunderstanding and signal boosting his incorrect interpretation of the campaign."
    • The past year has been quite draining on Ross, so he's done campaigning after next month.
    • It will still take a few years for the dust to clear at various consumer protection bureaus in 5 different countries, and the UK's seems to be run by old men who don't understand what's going on.
    • At least The Crew 2 and Motorfest will get offline modes as a consolation prize?

  • It used to be a fork of Mint offering the desktops they dropped, but since they switched to Debian as the base, I don't know of any reason to pick it over Debian itself, it's pretty pointless, AFAIK.

  • Some parts of it are rougher than others, but I'd say it can still be pretty fun.

  • You can sometimes find good quality used cookware from thrift stores (goodwill, habitat for humanity, etc).

For new, Costco has some pretty good deals on stainless steel pots and pan sets from I think Tramontina. They're pretty highly regarded, and should be a BIFL. I bought a small set of them, and can confirm they're pretty great.

A Legend is Born - Computer Chronicles Episode 1: Mainframes to Minis to Micros

The first of hopefully many hundreds of (weekly) posts to come.

This is the first episode of the classic 80's computer PBS program, which delved into what was at the time the state of the art. A time when computer companies and hackers were still figuring out what these things could do, and when many whacky and interesting ideas were attempted, to varying success.

Join us as we relive computing history, one week at a time.

  • Consider directing that rage into the methods seen in the Chile documentary in my first response (I edited it in, so you may not have seen it).

I think it's good to be prepared for a civil war scenario, but we should be doing everything we can to avoid one.

Don't be a hostage of the gun... But have one and know how to use it well.

  • Unfortunately, the liberal party in Germany ultimately became complicit with the Nazi party.

Our current democratic party is completely corporate captured, and do not have any ethical fortitude to stand against the regime. They are cowards who will take the easy path, even at the expense of us all.

  • Let's try a general strike first, since if the military doesn't fracture and join us, you're looking at open slaughter (or at best, The Troubles)

Look how powerful civil disobedience and an extended general strike was against the regime in Chile back in 2019.

If the more liberal parts of the movement didn't go for the reform bait, they would've won.

  • If they become a worker owned cooperative, they may be able to find a credit union that will give them a loan to grow (there are some that specialize in helping cooperatives). Likely not as much as VC money, but far more sustainable, and for the workers who work there, far more equitable and ethical.

If they take the VC money, it is fairly inevitable that they will want to sell their share of the business and bail at some point. The least they could do if they take the VC money is actively encourage and facilitate their workers to form a union with the IWW, so at least they have a head start in bargaining with their VC overlords after he cashes out. But that scenario is far less ideal than a worker coop.

  • I think a potential solution or workaround could be to opt for cooperatively owned large solar installations, but this would require buy-in from a community to get it started, and is something those subsidies would've made easier.

Still, it could be that only a portion of your power bill is covered by the solar coop, making the initial price from each member lower. Then more panels could be added slowly as members choose to invest small amounts each month, until over time all of their power usage is from solar.

  • Having a home printer allows for easy printing of shipping labels, zines, letters, etc.

As for books, it can be useful for rarer books that a library may not have access to, though that is a bit more rare of a need.

  • I've had an operational printer in the household since around the year 2000, and I cannot fathom not having access to one. I would be a virtual headless chicken running around wailing about gutenburg or something.

Switching from Ink to Laser printers was a game changer as far as maintenance and costs (you can pick up a reconditioned laser printer from the early 2000's from a company that specializes in refurbing them and rock it for decades).
