  • Dream on...Motorola has continuously been moving headphone jack down to ever lower spec devices.Has been the reason I bought a used G84 half a year ago, as this has been the last Motorola with at least somewhat decent specs to support those. (On top of it, it runs LineageOS really well!).But the GrapheneOS phone will be a high-end-device, so you can probably forget about it...

  • How about messengers?Specifically Signal and Threema. Are they still working as expected? This is the biggest fear I have. Messaging is essential, but often seems to rely on google services for real time message push.I am currently using a vanilla LineageOS with basic Google Services and Apps installed because of this fear.

  • Nein, nein, nein!Nicht schon wieder die Iden des Merz!Einmal reicht, ich habe die täglich aufpoppenden Schreckensbilder von letztem Jahr immer noch nicht seelisch verarbeitet!

  • But the Sarsaparilla base aroma is the same for all, I assume?

That was the most interesting part for us, as it is basically unknown here and we had no idea what it tastes like.

Guess kinda like all the woodruff flavored stuff not known outside of Germany - there are differences between individual dishes, but the interesting part for foreigners would be the exotic base taste itself...

  • Both Orangina and Schweppes have a more or less pronounced bitter aftertaste, though (which is actually part of the reason they are so great!).So they might well agree with Cardassian taste expectations ;-)

  • High fructose corn syrup is thankfully not a thing here in Europe. So no domestic German soft drinks use it and also almost all of the American soft drinks I have seen so far contain normal sugar (probably not made from sugar canes, though, but doesn't really matter), the root beer in the picture included! :-)We will try it during our relaxed evening TV session, so I will be able to tell more in about two hours or so...!

  • bottle episode

    Pun intended? :-)

  • We will cautiously take some small sips of the base brew contained in the ice cooled specimen in the picture first, before considering moving on to the more advanced concepts... ;-)

  • Given that the can in the pic is the first root beer I have seen in my whole life (and that despite actively searching for it), the chances of finding some specific speciality brand are probably pretty slim, I guess... :-)

  • Thanks for the suggestion! That actually seems like it would the perfect episode to watch while drinking rootbeer!(Found a nice blog post about the scene here: https://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/ent/star-trek-most-hilarious-scene.html )

But, although I remember the two-parter to be completely great, given that my children haven't seen a single DS9 episode yet, it seems like a bit context-heavy (and also quite dark as a first introduction to DS9).So I decided to go with the silly "Little Green Man" episode instead, which mentions root beer at one occasion and starts with Nog going off to Starfleet Academy.

  • As a Bavarian, I have to say I am slightly flabbergasted to learn of the existence of Bavarian nutmeg root beer... 😆

  • I never expected to read the term "chicken powered nuclear bomb" in a serious Wikipedia article. Yet here we go!

BTW, I think we have left the mildly interesting context by now... :-)

  • Most of northern and central Germany was seen as a complete loss in any way. There where hundreds of French tactical nuclear missiles pointed, not at Warsaw Pact countries, but at Germany, to bring the Soviet advance to a halt before it could reach the French border.German Tornado fighter jets would have been outfitted with nuclear weapons to drop them - you probably guessed it - on German soil. There would not have been an "after the war" for Germany.Welcome to the insane logic of nuclear warfare!

  • Schöner Beitrag, fand ich gar nicht so sehr cringe, eher positiv begeistert.

  • Cold-War era strategic Autobahn segments in West Germany had covered shafts at regular intervals.Rumors had it that they were supposed to be fitted with small tactical nukes in the case the Sowjet tanks were on the verge of crossing the border...

Edit:Found the relevant Wikipedia article (only in German, though...):https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zebra-Paket

  • What kind of page are you talking about? If you mean a simple no-fuss webpage for some topic, I used Neocities for that in the past:neocities.org

  • I'm not convinced the fucking has declined. :-)I guess it is more that by now it is decoupled from family planning, which combined with more rational considerations (tied to higher education levels) lead to reduced family sizes.
