  • Not in your lifetime, Joe, unfortunately.

  • Can we start placing bets on when we find out that the "AI tools" they're using are just sweat shop workers in Bangladesh processing invoices?

  • Something something denuvo. I'll check it out when they ditch the spyware.

  • Not defending this human dumpster, but looking at the clip there appears to be a red hat at every single seat, seems like they came in the gift bag, he just happened to be the only one dumb enough to put it on.

  • Productive hobbies, multitasking while gaming, ... Optimizing my media collection... Astrophotography.

  • Back in my day when RAM was cheap, 8GB is worthless, 16GB is minimum spec to do anything remotely productive, 32GB covers 98% of scenarios, and 64GB is ehh why not at least this way I never have to worry about it.

  • Good note! I'll start digging into firmware posts! The tricky thing here is the commands seem to be echoes of a script that hasn't run in 11 months.

  • Here's the problem, I keep a jar of poisonous gas triggered by a randomly decaying radioactive atom in my bathroom, so all of my wasps are in superposition.

  • Makes sense. Me personally, after I have a good egg roll, I go back to my computer and create a new .txt file in Notepad and immediately type

"man that was a really good egg roll. Good egg roll Yen's Chinese Food on 7th street. I really hope I dont forget this good egg roll I ate at Yen's on Tuesday November 22and at 2pm. Good Yen's roll egg Chinese yummy."

Then I immediately delete the note so it can't be searched and just pray someone was screenshotting everything on my computer for future review.

  • Looks like my current dongle is compatible so when the new ZBT-2 gets here, I'll swap it in as the host controller and repurpose my old controller.

  • Ahh awesome, I'll give it a spin as soon as my new dongle arrives!

  • zigbee2mqtt

Sigh... Unfortunately I signed on as a ZHA man when I did my initial setup...

  • Can you not see in the activity log, either of HA itself or of the device, what is causing the action to be carried out?

Normally, yes, it would say what automation is triggering it, in this case it does not seem to be triggered by an automation.

The devices being rebooted are not associated with any on/off automations, but the device that used to receive those commands is no longer connected.

If it is a backlog of stuff, maybe restart Home Assistant, or better yet, the server itself

Done and done. FWIW, the on/off behavior seemed to continue during the reboot indicating it may be lurking in the ZigBee network?

What's also possible is that something is up with the electricity in your home. Maybe these devices are getting power surges or cutouts and defaulting to whatever you have that Power On setting set to.

It's too organized for that, and status is toggling off/on not unknown/on. Also the impacted devices are on separate circuits and seem to be impacted one-at-a-time.

Also also, voltage seems generally stable:

Last thing I can think of is an errant Zigbee controller. Maybe it's picking up Bluetooth or WoFi signal interference and sending garbled messages to anything that'll listen.

I'm generally in agreement, what's suspicious is it is very closely following the on/off pattern of a previous, long disabled, script (on/off/on/off in quick succession followed by ~1h on, then repeat).

What I don't know is how to find the errant device - if its truly the controller, I have a replacement on order (guess I gotta upgrade to the ZBT-2... twist my arm...). If it's a relay somewhere in the chain thinking it's passing along useful info then I have to reset everthing.

  • homeassistant @lemmy.world

Help! Ghosts! In my Home Assistant!

  • This one is a bit murky for me. It's vultures fighting vultures. Ambulance chasers v. Megacorp looking to cut costs.

I seriously doubt the ambulance chasers are gonna go broke with "just" 25%, but on the other hand anything that benefits Uber is almost universally a step backwards for society.

  • Just FYI, it's 2026 now :) thanks for maintaining this list!!

  • Cassava is a staple crop for a large part of the world's population, primarily south of the equator.

It forms the basis of a ton of dishes, similar to rice or potatoes elsewhere. Additionally cassava flour (aka tapioca starch) is the used as an ingredient in a ton of different foods, including animal feed.

So all of the above really.

  • Probably not. But perhaps you can suffer through 2 min of clicking in the web UI? Once you find their info you can DM through Voyager if that tickles your fancy.

  • Great to know! Does the pen still generally work for writing/notes? Also any clue if things work well with the newer generations?

Last I dug into Linux on the SP, it was a 3-4 generation lag on stable compatibility. My tablet is nearing EOL (because the charge port sucks and mine doesnt support USB-C charging as a fallback). If I replace it I don't love replacing it with something used, 4 years old, that may have a short life.

  • Touch inputs can be a little messy, driver support for closed source hardware (e.g., MS Surface) is understandably rocky, and I've had bad experience with battery longevity especially on open source hardware.

My 6-year-old SP battery still has ~70% capacity, which is teriffic. I have had other laptops lose 90% of their capacity after just a year or two, so I'm skeptical of the tablet market.

I'm not saying good Linux tablets don't exist, just that I'm looking for recommendations since the waters feel murkier to me.
