It has started to build servers from hardware old and new, running FOSS services that rival and replace most big tech solutions people feel they "need" nowadays.
And it has started to help others take control of their data and computing, move to software and services that respect their rights, and to see value in privacy, ownership and freedom.
It may not be much. It may not scale. And it may not provide "AI" capabilities. But it's a start. It's a lighthouse that shows this dystopia is not inevitable.
We need to answer the push towards centralised consumption with a refusal to consume, and a counterpush towards decentralised cells of resilience. If datacentres aren't profitable, there is very little incentive to only build and sell hardware for them exclusively.
With billionaires now openly buying politicians (instead of greasing their palms under the counter), I'd say the odds of such a law have become even worse.

Das Problem ergibt sich tatsächlich hauptsächlich aus den Triebfedern Algorithmik und Profitorientierung. Sie sorgen dafür, dass Nutzer nicht Inhalte sehen, die sie wollen, sondern solche, die sie sehen sollen.
Damit sind wir aber wieder beim Altruismusproblem: Für die alten Foren und IRC-Channels hat das vielleicht hingehauen, aber die Anforderungen an Server sind gewachsen. Serverinfrastruktur, die den Austausch und die Medieninhalte von Millionen Menschen ermöglichen, hostest du nicht mal eben über deine Fritzbox vom Wohnzimmer aus (das Fediverse vielleicht ausgenommen; ich bin noch sehr neu hier und nicht hinreichend eingelesen). Wie löst man das also? Staatlich subventionierte oder gar betriebene soziale Medien, analog zu anderen öffentlichen Gütern (Gas, Wasser, Scheiße, Rundfunk)? Und: Will man die damit einhergehende Regulierung?

In der Problemanalyse bin ich ganz bei dir. Da sehe ich auch eine Kernschwachstelle unserer Systeme: Die versteckte Käuflichkeit politischer Entscheidungen durch das große Geld, und damit die Zementierung gesellschaftlicher Ungleichheit.
Ich fand das Experiment des Bürgerrats unter der Ampelregierung extrem spannend. Er schiebt dem Problem der sich bildenden "Seilschaften", die sich bei Karrierepolitikern einfach ergeben, durch Randomisierung einen Riegel vor: Wer in den Bürgerrat kommt, bestimmt der Zufall. Ich glaube, wir sollten als Gesellschaft (und du und ich als politische Utopisten sowieso) ein wenig an dieser Idee weiterstricken.
Ich habe diesen dummen Scheiß jetzt tatsächlich ganz gelesen. Ich lese darin 18 Mal das Wort "rechtsextrem". Und drum herum: Seitenweise verbale und gedankliche Verrenkungen, um nicht einmal das Wort "Parteiverbot" in den Mund nehmen zu müssen. Stattdessen wird lieber lieber seitenweise von völlig irrwitzigen politischen Konstruktionen fabuliert: Minderheitsregierung hier, Koalitionen zwischen CDU und Linkspartei da, und natürlich eine strikte Trennung zwischen Kooperation auf kommunaler Ebene einerseits und Nicht-Kooperration auf Landes- und Bundesebene andererseits - als ob diese völlig willkürliche und scheinheilige Unterscheidung zu keiner weiteren Normalisierung und damit Etablierung der Rechtsextremen insgesamt führen würde!
Nochmal ganz langsam für Spiegel-Redakteure zum Mitschreiben: Rechtsextremismus ist nicht mit der freiheitlich-demokratischen Grundordnung vereinbar. Die AfD wird in mehreren Bundesländern mittlerweile als gesichert rechtsextrem geführt. Folglich ist die AfD nicht mit der freiheitlich-demokratischen Grundordnung vereinbar. Folglich muss das Verbot einer solchen Partei zumindest geprüft werden.
Dass ein vorgeblich linkslastiges Medium wie der Spiegel lieber seitenweise einen solchen Eiertanz aufführt, ohne die eigentliche Lösung mit nur einem Wort zu erwähnen, entsetzt mich.

keep track the IPs of any VPN entry node (to update blocklists, see step 2)
have them blocked (e.g. by using mandatory DNS filtering, probably applied at the ISP level)
make sure people do not just switch to DNS servers not under their / the ISPs' control.
Can somebody chime in and check my reasoning? The way I see it, this will hold off non-technical folks, but to make it absolutely waterproof would be quite hard and require a game of constant whack-a-mole, wouldn't it?
