Indeed there is value in that. And sometimes that's possible and should be pursued. But there are some people I can't discuss pizza toppings with, because I can't accept their underlying world view. It's difficult to find a good balance at scale, which is why everything is becoming so horrible. Something will have to (positively) change at some point, because the current state is unsustainable.
I tried Mastodon, multiple times, and it always has this icky political feel to it. Sort of like a left wing version of Twitter, which I also hate. Bluesky is even worse in this regard IME. Haven't tried Sharkey. I'll have a look at some of the alternatives in this thread.
I was already sick of what reddit was turning into, then it went full Spez and ruined the place completely. Lemmy was the only thing close that I could find. So here I am.
I was thinking sweet pancakes, because you could add sugar to almonds and it would be desserty (maybe?). But you seem to know more about this than I do, so I'll try some savoury ones. Cheers.
I like to change it up. I'll listen to USBs on my stereo, or on my phone with earphones. I listen to USBs which have mp3s from all over the place, YouTube, Radio Garden, and regular radio (on a stereo where you have to manually tune it to a station). I'm constantly unearthing new music, and music that's new to me.
I've been basically stranded over the Christmas period, and I tried to get an online chat thing going for people in a similar position. But it went nowhere. So I guess I'll celebrate with the wild birds that visit me daily. I have a great Christmas feast planned for them.
I stay out of the 24 hr "news cycle" noise chamber, I stay away from SM platforms run by ultra-wealthy oligarchs, I avoid negative, destructive people as much as possible, I spend a lot of time "touching grass" and just enjoying very simple pleasures.
I think "most people" would tolerate advertising if it wasn't so predatory and invasive (especially for apps/sites that a person values). So the solution to the "wrinkle" has been hiding in plain sight for years.
