  • Yeah, the bounce is scary. Def. a steel toed boots kind of job.

Way ahead of you here: I have no toes 🙂

Actually I would wear steel toed boots if I could, but I can't because the edge of the steel cup quickly starts digging into my funny bits: the front of all my full-size shoes very quickly collapses when I start wearing them and the crease it creates - or the steel thing in safety shoes - becomes unpleasant, if not painful.

So I wear plain old boots. But I do have a large axe gash in front of one of them, and I'm sure glad there was nothing underneath to go spend hours at the ER for.

  • No termites. And in fact, I have 1.5 cords in a wooden shed behind the cottage, and maybe half a cord in the wooden garage 🙂

  • What good does that do? The water would refreeze instantly, and then all the driveway would be good for is running a Zamboni on it, as it would become slippery to death.

  • There was about 3 cords on the ground (7 trees) and I'm not half-way done. So maybe one. Probably less 🙂

  • Ooh that's a good idea, that. I'll do that for the next batch. Thanks!

  • Neither actually 🙂

I have no idea what kind of axe I have, but it's very old, quite heavy, and the blade is straight and 2 inches max. It's not easy to deal blows accurately with such a small head, and when it bounces off knotty wood, it tends to be seriously scary. But there's nothing better to split whole trunk logs.

The axe was in the house when I bought it. I always thought I should get a lighter one with a larger curved blade and a little less lively, but laziness got the better of me, and now I'm used to that one. It's just a matter of concentrating when I'm using it.

  • Nothing like chopping wood to clear your head. Well, maybe shifting snow with a snow shovel...

  • More wood to chop tomorrow...

  • Crypto is losing value because it never had true value. Now that serious world-changing fascist shit is hitting the fan, get-rich-quick crypto enthusiasts are dumping their dangerous play money for something that has a chance to keep its value in turbulent times.

Also, everything Trump touches becomes toxic. If I was doing crypto, seeing this madman and his idiot sons go all in on crypto would scare the shit out of me. Remember: he bankrupted 4 to 6 casinos depending on how you count. Who the hell bankrupts a casino?? It's a virtual money printer! If Trump can make a guaranteed successful business like a casino go tits up, imagine what he and his dumb scammy family and friends can do to crypto...

  • Oh that's nice: for once a young person is pissing on the boomers without lumping us gen-Xers with them.

Cuz more and more now, I'm being told that I'm a scumbag, the scourge of society and that we all had it easy-peasy in the 80s. Because of course we did: obviously we're the cause of everything that's wrong in the world today, and our evil boomer parents even more so!

Oh well, inter-generational hate will always exist. You will know it too when you get older my young friend...

  • Make Bitcoin Zero Again

Trump is so damn dumb his policies are driving down the value of his own crypto scams.

  • Next elections would still be

    What next elections?

Haven't you heard? The Orange Utan and his fat tramp friend Bannon have already announced that they'll deploy the SS ICE at polling stations. As if nobody saw that one coming even before Trump inexplicably won the vote in 2024...

  • Certain industries like to pretend they sell "special" devices and are heavy on subscription models for gullible customers, and customers who think that's just the way things are done because things are never done any other way, because the whole industry is kind of a giant scam in which all the actors are in on the scam.

Locksmithing and physical security are two such industries. In scammy industries like that, manufacturers refrain from providing MSRPs and never sell directly to the customers, because the scam involves distributors setting their own prices - more often than not with outrageous markups - and bundling crappy subscriptions with the devices, that you often can't buy without the subscription. The unwritten rule is that the manufacturers only quote the distributors and never undercut them by selling direct.

This is a security camera. I don't use it as such, but that's what it is. I bought it from a security company at the price they quoted me, which may vary wildly from other resellers. I've seen those cameras sold for anything between $500 to over $1000, with the typical price being around $700.

If you want one, you'd better shop around to find the best deal.

  • And if the northern lights this morning weren't enough, the camera delivered this ice rainbow this afternoon at sunset:

This happens on clear days when there are ice particles in suspension in the air in the winter.

Today is one of those days!

  • It's one of these: MileSight AI Pro 5M 23x PTZ PoE+ bullet camera (exact model number MS-C5367-X23PE).

I chose the one with the 23x zoom because it lets us see more things further around the lake. But if you want one for stargazing, maybe you'd be better served with the 4 megapixel 16x zoom model (MS-C4467-X20RPE): the page says it only needs a minimum 0.002 lux at F1.6, while ours needs 0.008 lux at the same stops. I find ours' performances in low-light conditions quite stunning, so the 4M model should be even better.

It's not a cheap camera, but it's really worth the money. The fabulous web interface alone makes it worth it: it's actually useful, pleasant to use, it lets you define users with different rights, it doesn't depend on some stupid proprietary Windows software, and it's fully compatible with Firefox as well as Chromium. And of course it's ONVIF-compatible and it outputs streams the usual way (RTSP and such) so you can connect it to anything that's ONVIF- and RTSP-compatible.

  • No but I was replying to her complaining that she found the job terrible and tiring: she kinda signed up for it. So ya know... Cry me a fucking river...

  • Le normally doesn’t work for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. She used to work as an attorney for ICE in immigration court, and last month volunteered to help prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney’s Office deal with the many habeas petitions from immigrants in ICE detention seeking their release.

Maybe don't work for a criminal organization and volunteer for more?

  • Start counting the accounts held by prominent US personalities and you'll find a whole lot more.

  • So what? Jon Stewart too is named in the Epstein files. But you know what neither Mamdani's mom nor Stewart did? Fuck kids or try to help a convicted pedo.
