  • This was in Cleveland, in the Mississippi Delta. For those who don't know, the Mississippi Delta had some of the largest plantations in Mississippi and the racial and economic divide still very much holds up today. Plus Mississippi authorities are some of the most racist in the country, so no foul play my ass

  • Actually, please don't. It's Lemmy and we need all the users we can get

  • I'm from MS, and my anecdotal experience is not representative of everyone. That being said, the number of people I knew that who experienced sexual abuse in their marriages was shockingly high compared to other placed I have lived.

  • People like Kirk will see that quote and say things like, "See, not every belief is equal and not every belief should be defended, that's how we got to this point." The mental gymnastics is incredible

  • Personally, I think very few people in life are truly independent and never need help or assistance with something. As far as thriving, I know way more people that are struggling with something like their finances, health, or something else.

I think most people either get lucky early on and their lives generally go well, or they don't get lucky early in life.

Edit: As a child, I thought life was hard but ultimately a good experience if you put in the work and did the right things. As I got older, I realized that my life is mostly bleak but with some good experiences throughout.

  • Ah fuck the movie was a little different than I remember

  • I see this behavior everywhere on the internet, and I truly believe people become like this the more chronically online they are - whether they realize it or not.

  • Lol someone just got rebuked over their comments about being left out earlier this week

  • Mmmm tasty microplastics

  • This is not the way. It does not tackle the issue of farms growing water-intensive crops, it just deincentivizes farms from hiring migrant workers. Farms will still run the risk of hiring migrants because their labor is comparatively cheap, and they will still farm water-intensive crops.

Instead let's vilify this and advocate for better work conditions and sustainable farming practices.

Edit: I think all forms of business inherently, naturally take advantage of the opportunities available to them regardless of legality. They must be regulated and held accountable if we wish to see any societal progress to combat climate change and other civil injustices.

  • Here I am thinking, "Damn $7500/mo, I could gross that every month for the rest of my life for my partner and I, and we'd be more than comfortable." Then I realized it's still less than $100k/yr, and inflation is a bitch.

...I'm never going to be able to afford a house, will I?

  • Like a dollar-store Pokéball on the outside lol. Maybe the interior of this new can is even more luxurious

  • Not sure if your username is better as a sarcastic remark to the other poster or for your post lmao

  • Seriously though, R is tedious as hell when dealing with statistical analysis. It can be fun but I found it to be too much work for things I could do more easily elsewhere. Python is great for many things financial but can be limiting, though it's my favorite language probably because of its general use and ease of access.

  • "I can quit anytime I want!"

snorts 2 lines and rubs the rest in mouth

  • Very good advice. Actual, trained and licensed therapists can help everyone at some point. Unfortunately, the majority are severely overworked and underpaid, so finding a good therapist that has experience or familiarity with your particular circumstances may take time.

  • A doctor prescribed me coke to treat my idiopathic hypersomnia. Didn't realize computational finance grads could write scripts, but I'm happy

  • From experience, try to use strains with less THC and higher CBD and it generally will help. Then taking time to see what dosage is a good balance of pain relief without making you high, and for how long before using again. There's more to it, but that typically will be the easiest change to make. When you build a tolerance, make very small changes. It's difficult, but you'll start go see the effects if you stick with it. Cannabis is strong as hell these days lol
