  • Trumpstein class?

  • First of all, breathe. You missed an appointment. There are greater catastrophes in life! I’m sure a week doesn’t go by that most doctor’s offices have a handful of no-shows.

Second, you or your parents need to call the place and explain what happened. If they regularly deal with depression, I’m sure they’ve seen this before. The worst thing you can do is burry your head. Depression requires some kind of treatment. I’ve never met anyone who got a handle on it on their own. Places that worked with depression know what they’re dealing with, and want to help you. You just need to keep them in the loop.

Third, maybe see if your parents can talk to their insurance provider and see if there’s a depression counselor who can meet you over Zoom.

Finally, talk to your parents (anbd/or friends) about helping you with all the habits people in this thread are suggesting (like setting alarms and reminders). Habits a good in that they bring some structure to your life. That can help.

  • This doesn’t really sound like a grudge. This person showed you who she was. You’ve taken note, and have adjusted your behavior accordingly. That’s not a bad thing. She won’t be the last ladder climber you run into!

  • Honestly, the predominant self hosting community could use some competition.

  • I interact on Lemmy/Piefed, and I lurk on Reddit. Most of reddit has gone way downhill, but some of the niche communities there are still valuable resources.

FWIW, Lemmy has its own mod problems. I had a post deleted and the mod specifically said I hadn’t broken a community rule, they just didn’t think it belonged. Weirdly, there are plenty of similar posts on the corresponding Reddit sub, and the subject of my post directly impacted the subject of the community. I had even gotten some useful replies and the post was moderately upvoted but the community. This butt was just lording his power, and there wasn’t really anything I could do (I’m not starting a new community and putting in all the effort of growing it because of some dick on the Internet).

  • This is a great perspective. In a way, the civil part of a marriage is a kind of business of two people. It often comes with legal protections, tax advantages, and some other perks (when I rent a car, my wife is assumed to be a driver at no extra charge!). In many areas, a married arrangement is preferable for adoption purposes. There are a bunch of side benefits to “making it official.”

All of that said, I think countries should do away with marriage. Return it to the churches, and offer a personal business license that gives all the same legal protections and tax options. Any two consenting adults can start a business. When it’s called “marriage” people get their panties in a bunch!

  • The Ellison boys:

  • Most wi-fi smart devices use cheap components and will often drop off the network for seemingly no reason. As long as you do some basic planning, Zigbee and Z-Wave are pretty solid. There are some folks here who will say one or both of these technologies are on their way out because Matter & Thread. I’m not sure I agree with them, but even so, HA supports Matter, so… when Thread devices become as ubiquitous as Zigbee & Z-Wave devices, you can replace them as they die.

  • For me, I have a tendon issue in a couple of toes that refuses to heal. I can’t walk around barefooted without aggravating it. So I have a couple pair of slides that are only house shoes.

  • I don’t do that.

    Yet.

  • I wear house shoes in the house. What does that make me?

  • Asshole can’t help but act like assholes. Time for The Idiot to issue a second pardon to another one of his lovers.

  • Why couldn’t they just say that in the article!?

  • To me, this is an area where some unions could really make up some ground with conservatives and liberals. The instinct to rally around members can be detrimental to the overall goal of the union when that member has been proven to be a bad employee. I’ve never been in a union, so I’m guessing the stereotype of lazy union workers is probably overblown; but I’m sure there are examples that reinforce it.

  • No, Olmsted was a landscape architect (also did Biltmore in NC). The state or city parks commissioner who did it. Can’t remember his name. He also explicitly didn’t leave room for future light rail expansion when they build the LIE, or some other expressway. Been awhile since I lostened to that one.

  • Thanks for the recommendation. Added to my library

  • There’s a really good Behind the Bastards about the guy who made those decisions. Can’t remember his name.

  • He’s half right. Bezos is getting what he paid for. He couldn’t care less if anyone sees that movie.

  • Release the Epstein files, and I’ll go see it for free.
